The Minnesota Vikings claimed former Cleveland Browns running back, Ben Tate, off the waiver wire on Wednesday.
Tate will be paid $353,000 as the Vikings part of his salary for 2014 and $46,900 for each game he remains on the Vikings 46 man roster.
Adrian Peterson, unless he wins an appeal, has been suspended for the remainder of the season by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell. While waiting on word of his suspension, the Vikings have been using rookie Jerick McKinnon and Matt Asiata to fill in for Peterson. McKinnon is averaging 4.9 yards a carry while Asiata has 6 rushing TDs and 1 receiving touchdown.
On the face of the pickup, it appears to be a bad decision by the Vikings front office as Tate's performance for the Browns, where he was used primarily as a third down back, has not been as productive nor produced the results the Vikings have had with their current backs.
