Charros Smother Aguilas 17-0

It was an extremely exciting night for the 10,000 plus fans that packed Estadio Charros de Jalisco on a sultry Friday night  They witnessed history as Orlando Lara threw the 50th no hitter in the history of the Liga Mexicana del Pacifico, which has been around in various forms since 1945, But the offense scored 17 runs, including a grand slam by pinch hitter Alberto Carreon. This was Lara's 1st complete game of his LMP career.

The Charros had been held to 2 runs in their series against the Yaquis as they dropped 2 of the 3 games. They started fast, scoring 8 runs in the first 3 innings and scored 8 more times in the 6th inning to turn the game into a laugher. Carreon came on to pinch hit for Amadeo Zazueta, who had already gone 3 for 4 with an RBI and 2 runs scored, and launched a long home run to left with the bases loaded. Japhet Amador followed that, 2 batters later with a 2 run shot of his own. Santiago Chavez, who pinch hit for Amador in the 8th hit a home of his own for Jalisco

The 17 runs scored by the Charros are the most in the Liga Mexicana del Pacifico this year, topping the 15 runs scored by Navojoa in their 15-0 white washing of Obregon last week. The 21 hits and 17 runs are the most by the Charros this season.

The Charros pitching staff, starters and relievers, have been outstanding over the last 4 games. They gave up 3 runs over 34 innings to the Yaquis and shut out the Aguias last night. That's 3 runs in 43 innings, a 0.63 ERA over that span.

Lara lost the perfect game in the 2nd when he hit CJ Retherford with a pitch. Jason Bourgeois reached base safely on a fielding error in the 6th and Lara walked Carlos Rodriguez in the 8th.

The Charros were 10 for 24 with runners in scoring position and still left 12 runners stranded. Jalisco sent 13 men to the plate in the 6th inning and 8 of them scored.

Venados 1 Hit Charros in 9-0 Win

Jose Hernandez gave up a 3rd inning single to Gabriel Gutierrez for the lone Jalisco hit. Hernandez worked 5 innings with 7 strike outs and no walks. 5 Mazatlan relievers continued the outstanding pitching, walking 4 but not giving up a hit.

The Charros git a runner to third base in the 7th on 2 walks and a force out at second,mbut a fly ball by Daniel Carbonell ended the threat. Jalisco had runners on base but 3 times grounded into double plays.

The Venados scored 5 runs in the 6th inning to put the game away. Two walks and a single by Kenny Wilson produced the first run. A single by Sherman Johnson loaded the bases, After a pitching change, Brian Hernandez doubled to left center to clear the bases. Hernandez scored on a single by Anthony Giansanti to complete the scoring and the 9-0 lead for Mazatlan.

Jose Hernandez (1-0) picked up the win for the 2-0 Venados while Orlando Lara (0-1), who gave up 4 runs on 7 hits in 4 innings of work took the loss for Jalisco.

Teodoro Mariscal in Mazatlan was packed with 16,000 raucous fans for the home opener.

Toros Tome el Juego 1 de la Serie del Rey con Walkoff triunfo sobre Pericos

DUSTIN MARTIN HITS primer bate, Walkoff HR EN LA PARTE INFERIOR DE LA 9 DE.

Ambos abridores lanzaron maravillosa de béisbol en un duelo de lanzadores en el juego 1 de la Serie del Rey el miércoles por la noche en Tijuana. Horacio Ramírez de los Toros limita el Pericos de 4 hits en 6 entradas y ponchó a 5, pero no participó en la decisión. Juan Sandoval lanzó 2 entradas sin hits en relieve para recoger la victoria.

El lanzador de arranque Pericos, Orlando Lara llevó a cabo el Toros de 2 hits en sus 8 entradas completas en el montículo ponchando a 4 mientras se camina 5. Lara lanzó 135 lanzamientos en el primer partido de la Serie del Rey. Tijuana no tuvo un pasado la segunda base del corredor hasta que el 9 de entrada. Carlos Bustamante entró en relevo de Lara y renunció a la delantera despegue hogar de Martin para tomar la pérdida.

Tijuana realiza un juego de 1 a ninguna ventaja en la serie. Ramírez logró salir de un atasco en la parte superior de la 1ª. Con un out, Willy Taveras y Manny Rodríguez conectó sencillo al poner corredores en las esquinas. Ramírez ponchó Ruben Rivera y Daric Barton a salir de la entrada. Puebla amenazada de nuevo en la parte superior de la 9ª. Rivera recibió un boleto de plomo y se robó la segunda. con dos outs, Luis Suárez recibió un boleto intencional. Alberto Carreón a tierra en una fuerza en segunda para terminar la entrada.

Juego 2 de la serie se jugará el jueves por la noche con la serie desplazando a Puebla para los juegos 3, 4 y 5.

Jalisco Falls To Aguilas 4-3

The Charros de Jalisco are fast running out of time in the 2016 Liga Mexicana del Pacifico playoffs. Last night's 4-3 loss to the Aguilas de Mexicali have Jalisco in an 0-3 hole from which it seems improbable they can recover.

Marco Duarte threw 7 shutout innings in his start for the Aguilas allowing 4 hits and striking out 7 in the win while Jose Manuel Lopez picked up the save, striking out the 2 Charros he faced in the bottom of the 9th.

Orlando Lara gave up all 4 Mexicali runs, 3 via the home run ball, scattering 6 hits and striking out 4 over 6 1/3 innings of work. Julio Felix and Manuel Flores held the Aguilas hitless over the final 2 2/3 innings in relief of Lara.

Ramon Urias got things going for Mexicali in the top of the 1st inning when he sent an 0-1 fastball from Lara deep to left center for a solo home run that quieted the home town Charros fans.

Wellington Dotel led off the top of the 2nd with a single to center, advanced to 2nd, one out later, on a ground ball to the pitcher and scored on a double to left center by Xorge Carrillo that gave Mexicali a 2-0 lead.

Dorel doubled in the 4th inning and scored on a long home run to left by Chris Roberson giving the Aguilas a 4-0 lead.

The Charros bats were silent until the bottom of the 8th inning when Alan Espinoza hit a rocket of a home run over the left field wall. The Mexicali left fielder, Ramom Rios, could only turn and stare as the ball cleared the wall quickly. The lead was down to 4-1, Aguilas.

With 1 out in the bottom of the 9th for Jalisco, Cacao Valdez doubled to left. Alex Liddi, who earlier had twice driven balls deep to center for outs, hit a 1-1 pitch from the Mexicali reliever, Yair Lozoya, over the fence in right that scored Valdez and cut the lad to 4-3. Miguel Olivo and Agustin Murillo both struck out to end the game with the Aguilas taking game 3 by that 4-3 score.

The LMP Playoffs continue with game 4 on Tuesday night at 7:30 in Guadalajara. Should the Aguilas win, they move on to the next round of the playoffs. If the Charros win, game 5 will be played at the Estadio de Los Charros on Wednesday night the 6th of January.

Charros Continue Winning; Shutout Hermosillo 3-0

The Charros got a strong outing from Orlando Lara and the bullpen worked 3 scoreless innings giving up just 1 hit, walking none and striking out 2 in beating the Naranjeros de Hermosillo 3-0

Lara (1-0) got the win and Brian Broderick, LMP Reliever of the Year in 2014,  picked up his second save of the young season as the Charros improved to 3-1 on the year.

Nate Reed (0-1) pitched 5 innings for Hermosillo in the loss, allowing 3 runs on 8 hits while walking 1 and striking out 2 Charros.

The Charros have played errorless ball through the first four games, a total of 35 innings. The combination of good pitching, good hitting and excellent defense should win many games for Jalisco this year.

Leo Heras got things going for the Charros in the top of the 2nd inning with a one out double to right. Heras stopped at third on a single by Jesus Lopez and scored on a perfectly executed squeeze bunt by Eduardo Arredondo to give the Charros a 1-0 lead.

Japhet Amador singled with one out in the 3rd and went to third on an infield error by the Naranjeros first baseman on a ball hit by Max Muncy. Amador scored on a double to left center by Alex Liddi with Muncy stopping at third. Muncy scored on a grounder to second by Leo Heras and the Charros led 3-0. The last 6 innings were scoreless and the Charros won the game by that score.

Japhet Amador raised his batting average to ,500 by going 3 for 4 on the night with a run scored. Alex Liddi, Leo Heras and Eduardo Arredondo had the 3 RBIs for the Charros.

Sebastion Elizalde went 1 for 4 for the Naranjeros and is hitting .500 for Hermosillo.

Los Mochis 8, Culiacan 5 (10 innings)

The Caneros scored 3 runs in the 9th inning to tie the game and 3 more times in the 10th to top the Tomateros 8-5. Yoan Pedroso went 2 for 5 with a 3 run home run in the 10th for Los Mochis. Ali Solis and Jorge Cantu homered for the Tomateros. Juan Noriega (1-0) got the win and Andres Avila his second save for the Caneros while Jesus Castillo took the loss for Culiacan. Oscar Villarreal was charged with a blown save.

Navojoa 6, Mazatlán 5 (10 innings)

Navojoa scored 4 runs in the 5th inning to tie the game and needed a run in the bottom of the 9th to send the game into extra innings. Glynn Davis' squeeze bunt went for a singled with one out in the bottom of the 10th to score Alan Sanchez for the walk off win. Ozzie Mendez (1-0) got the win while Manny Delcarmen (0-1) took the loss. Steven Hensley was charged with a blown save. Fernando Flores went 3 for 5 with 2 RBIs and 2 runs scored and Lance Zawadski hit a home run for the Mayos. Carlos Munoz was 2 for 4 with a double and a home run for the Venados.

The Aguilas erupted for 5 runs in the 7th inning and held on to beat the Yaquis 8-7. Jose Lopez (1-0) was credited with the win and Adam Refer got his second save of the year for Mexicali. The teams combined to use 16 pitchers in the game.The Aguilas used 9 pitchers while the Yaquis used 7. Mark Hamburger (1-1) was charged with a blown save and took the loss. Yunesky Betancourt went 2 for 5 with a home run and 3 RBIs while Wellington Dtel was 2 for 4 with 2 RBIs for the Aguilas. Asael Sanchez was 3 for 5 with a triple and 2 RBIs for the Yaquis and Roman Pena was 2 for 3 with an RBI.

Danny Richar's Home Run Powers Rieleros Over Guerreros 6-3

The Guerreros de Oaxaca fell to 1-8 on the season following the loss to the Rieleros de Aguascalientes, 6-3. last night in front of 2,638 loyal home fans.

Oaxaca got on the board first on a solo home run to left by Erick Rodriguez in the bottom of the 3rd. The Guerreros would have their only lead of the night at 1-0.

In the top of the 4th, Jesus Castillo walked with one out for the Rieleros. Saul Soto singled to deep short and Castillo was able to score when the throw by the Guerreros shortstop sailed wide and into right field. The score was tied at 1.

With one out in the top of the 6th inning, Saul Soto and Rene Reyes drew consecutive walks. Danny Richar launched a 3 run home run to right center that scored Soto and Reyes and gave the Rieleros a 6-1 lead.

The Guerreros would score twice in the bottom of the eight to make the game interesting. With two outs, Mike Jacobs reached base safely on an fielding error by the Rieleros shortstop. Tim Torres beat out a bunt down the third base line and Yunesky Sanchez followed with a triple that scored Jacobs and Torres to cut the lead to 6-3.

Roy Corcoran pitched the 9th inning for Aguascalientes and struck out two to preserve the win for Orlando Lara and pick up his 3rd save of the year. Ruddy Acosta took the loss, allowing 3 earned runs on 3 hits and issuing 5 base on balls in 5 1/3 innings of work.

Juan Castillo was 2 for 4 with 2 doubles, an RBI and a run scored for the Rieleros. Danny Richar went 1 for 4 with the 3 run home run while Leobardo Arauz added a solo home run on a 2 for 4 night.

Erick Rodriguez had a solo home run and an RBI while going 2 for 3 for the Guerreros. Tim Torres was 2 for 3, Alan Sanchez went 2 for 5 and Yunesky Sanchez had a 2 run triple in his 4 at bats.

Saltillo 9, Puebla 6 (12 innings)
Carlos Alvarez stroked a 2 run double in the top of the 12th inning as the Saraperos beat the Pericos 9-6. Rogelio Martinez was charged with the loss and Luis Rodriguez picked up the win in relief.

Yucatan 8, Monterrey 0
Juan Delgadillo notched his 1st win of the year as he and 3 relievers shut out the Sultanes on 5 hits. Luis Garcia was 2 for 4 with 4 RBIs for the Leones and Kevin Flores added a triple. Edgar Gonzalez suffered his 2nd loss of the year for Monterrey.

Campeche 5, Monclova 2
Adan Velazquez went 2 for 3 with a home run and 2 RBIs as the Piratas downed the Acereros 5-2. Francisco Cordoba homered and drove in both runs for Monclova. Hector Velazquez got the win for Campeche while Francisco Cordova took the loss.

Quintana Roo 4, Reynosa 3
The Tigres scored 4 runs in the 3rd inning and held on to bet the Broncos 4-3. Travis denker was 2 for 4 with 3 RBIs for the Tigres while Jorge Vazquez homered and drove in 3 for the Broncos. Pablo Ortega won for the 2nd time and Francisco Rodriguez notched his 2nd save. Omar Espinoza took the loss for Reynosa.

Tijuana 4, Veracruz 1
The Toros won for the 8th time in 9 games, beating the Aguilas 4-1 in Veracruz. Eduardo Arredondo went 3 for 5 with 3 runs scored for Tijuana. Humberto Sosa was 2 for 3 for Veracruz. Francisco Lizarraga picked up the win in relief and Ramon Ramirez got his 4th save of the year. Jose Meraz suffered the loss for Veracruz.

Laguna 13, Ciudad del Carmen 7
The Vaqueros hit 2 home runs and got 15 hits on their way to a 13-7 win over the Delfines. Santiago Gonzalez and Juan Miranda both hit 3 run home runs for Laguna. Freddy Guzman was 3 for 5 with 2 RBIs and 2 rubs scored for del Carmen and David Urias went 3 for 4 with 2 rubs scored.

Mexico 6, Tabasco 1
The Diablos Rojos scored 4 times in the 3rd inning to top the Olmecas 6-1 in Tabasco. Ivan Terrazas was 2 for 4 with a home run and 2 RBIs for Mexico as team mate Gabriel Gutierrez went 2 for 4 with 2 RBIs. Christian Quintero was 2 for 3 for the Olmecas. Arturo Lopez picked up the win while Rodolfo Aguirre took the loss for Tabasco

Tomateros de Culiacan Defeat Charros 3-1

TAKE COMMANDING 3 GAMES TO 1 LEAD

The Tomateros de Culiacan hold a 3 games to 1 lead in the Liga Mexicana del Pacifico Championship Series with their 3-1 victory over the Charros on Sunday.

The Charros had multiple opportunities to score as they loaded the bases 3 separate times during the game but were unable to capitalize. As a team, the Charros were 2 for 10 with runners in scoring position and stranded 11 runners.

The Charros loaded the bases, with one out, in the top of the 1st on singles by Manny Rodriguez, Leo Heras and Marquez Smith. Japhet Amador then lofted a fly ball to left for the second out and Rodriguez was thrown out at home trying to score.

Culiacan took advantage of the Charros failure to score in their half of the 1st. Rico Noel bunted for a hit and went to second on a sacrifice bunt by Maxwell Leon. Noel stole third and scored when Eric
Farris launched a home run to left. Culiacan went up 2-0 after one inning.

The Tomateros added to their lead in the bottom of the 4th. Dave Sappelt drew a lead off walk and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Issmael Salas. Arturo Rodriguez grounded out to the pitcher as Sappelt took third. Sergio Gastelum walked and went to second on a wild pitch by Charros starter Orlando Lara. Ramiro Pena reached base safely on a fielding error by CJ Retherford as Sappelt scored. The lead was 3-0 Culiacan.

Jalisco mounted a threat in the top of the 9th. CJ Retherford walked with one out and moved to second on a wild pitch. Sebastien Valle grounded out to second to advance Retherford to third. Pinch hitter Jesus Cota singled to drive in Retherford. The Charros loaded the bases with two outs but Leo Heras lined out to second to end the game and the Tomateros took the 3-1 win.

One game remains to be played in Culiacan. Should the Tomateros win, they become the League Champions. If the Charros win, the series returns to Guadalajara for game 6 and, if necessary, game 7.

Obregon Ties Series At Two Games Apiece

DEFEAT JALISCO 5-1

The semifinal series between the Charros de Jalisco and the Yaquis de Obregon is tied at 2 games apiece following Obregon's 5-1 victory over the Charros on Thursday night.

The Yaguis opened the scoring in the bottom of the 2nd. Yunesky Sanchez led off with a single and stole second. Sergio Contreras singled to deep short that got Sanchez to third. Armando Araiza drew a base on balls to load the bases. Daniel Castro doubled to left to score Sanchez and Contreras. After a pitching change by the Charros, reliever Manuel Flores hit Corey Wimberly with a pitch to load the bases again. With one out, JC Linares singled to short to score Araiza and the bases remained full of Yaquis. Flores got Brad Nelson to pop out to short and Carlos Valencia struck out to end the inning but the damage was done and Obregon led 3-0 after two innings.

Corey Wimberly led off the bottom of the 4th for the Yaquis with a home run to right to give Obregon a 4-0 lead.

The Charros got on the board in the top of the 6th when Leo Heras took the Yaquis starter, Virgil Vasquez, deep to right for a solo home run that narrowed the Yaquis lead to 4-1.

Armando Araiza walked to lead off the Yaquis half of the 6th. Daniel Castro sacrificed him to second. Charros reliever, Terrance Marin, threw a wild pitch that moved Araiza to third and Araiza scored on a fielding error by the Charros shortstop to give Obregon a 5-1 lead and the game.

Orlando Lara took the loss for Jalisco and Virgil Vasquez picked up the win for the Yaquis. Both pitchers are 1-1 in the playoffs.

One more game in Obregon then the series will return to Guadalajara for game 6 on Sunday afternoon and, if necessary, game 7 on Monday night.

Charros Sweep Venados 4 Games to 0

JALISCO ADVANCES TO SECOND ROUND OF PLAYOFFS

Jalisco is into the second round of the Liga Mexicana del Pacifico playoffs with the four game sweep of the Venados de Mazatlan. Orlando Lara pitched an outstanding game, going 7 innings, scattering 5 hits, walking 1 and striking out 5 to earn the win. Timely hitting by the offense turned 8 hits into the 4 runs scored for the victory.

The Charros scored early, plating 2 runs in the 2nd on a single to center by Jon Weber and a home run to left by Marquez Smith. Jalisco took the lead 2-0 and coasted to the win.

Jalisco added to their lead in the top of the 5th. Gabriel Gutierrez singled with one out and moved to second when Eduardo Arredondo was safe at first on an error by the Venados third baseman, Ronnier Mustelier. Manny Rodriguez came through with a single to center that score Gutierrez for the 3-0 lead but Arredondo was thrown out at third for the final out of the inning. Arredondo was hurt on the play and left the game to be replaced by Edson Garcia. No word was given on the extent of the injury to Arredondo.

Leo Heras walked to lead off the 8th for the Charros. He moved to second on an errant pick off attempt, moved to third on a ground out by Japhet Amador and scored on a single to right  by CJ Retherford. The insurance run had the Charros up 4-0.

With one out in the Venados half of the 8th, Paul Leon singled to center. Jesus Fabela followed with a single with Leon stopping at second. Ronnier Mustelier singled to score Leon as Mazatlan cut the lead to 4-1.

The Venados threatened in the bottom of the 9th when Blake Gailen and Heber Gomez led off with back-to-back singles. Charros reliever, Manny Acosta got Erick Rodriguez to hit into a double play and Jesus Castillo to ground out to second to end the game.

This series was a team effort from the first game. The pitching was unbelievably good by all four Charros starters but Marquez Smith started the scoring in all four games, either drawing a walk and coming around to score or the home run in game 4. Marquez Smith is my choice for the Most Valuable Player in the first round series.

Jalisco Takes game 2 of Series With Yaquis, 7-1

Game two of the series with Obregon on Tuesday the 23rd of December went to the Charros by a 7-1 score. Orlando Lara is now 7-3 on the year with the win and Japhet Amador hit his 13th home run of the season.

Manny Rodriguez singled and scored on a single to center by Leo Heras that the Yaquis center fielder mis played and threw away trying to get Rodriguez at home. Heras went to third on the throw. After Japhet Amador walked, CJ Retherford hit a grounder to third that scored Heras for the quick 2-0 Charros lead.

Christian Villanueva hiy a solo home run to left for Obregon in the bottom of the 1st that proved to be the only run the Yaquis would score on the day.

The Charros exploded for 4 runs in the top of the 5th. Ivan Araujo walked to lead off the inning. Amadeo Zazueta struck out but Edson Garcia was hit by a pitch to put two runners on for Jalisco. Manny Rodriguez skyed out to center moving Araujo to third. With Leo Heras up the Charros pulled off a double steal with Araujo swoping home and Garcia taking second. Heras reached when the Yaquis left fielder dropped a fly ball that scored Garcia. Japhet Amador followed with a 2 run shot to center and the Jalisco lead was up to 6-1.

Fernando Valenzuela walked to lead off the 9th for Jalisco and scored on 3 wild pitches by the Obregon reliever, the Charros would win this game 7-1.

Naranjeros Swept By Charros

The Naranjeros de Hermosillo visited Zapopan for three games and the Charros won all three games.

Jalisco started off the scoring on Thursday night in the bottom of the 1st as Manny Rodriguez drove a pitch from Hermosillo starter, Alfredo Aceves, over the left field wall for a quick 1-0 Charros lead.

The Naranjeros threatened in the top of the 3rd. Jose Cardona hit a one out triple off the wall in center field but the Jalisco starter, Orlando Lara, got Jose Aguilar to fly out to shallow right and Carlos Gastelum to ground out to short to end the inning with no damage done.

The Charros built on their lead in the 4th on a Marquez Smith double to right and a run scoring double to center by Jesus Cota. Fernando Valenzuela followed, one out later, with a single to left that scored Cota but Valenzuela was out at second on a good throw by the Hermosillo left fielder. The Charros had a 3-0 lead.

Mermosillo got a run back in the top of the 6th on Jose Amador's 9th home run of the season to cut the Charros lead to 3-1.

Orlando Lara picked up the win to move to 6-3 on the year with 6 1/3 innings on the mound. Lara gave up 1 run while scattering 6 hits, walking none and striking out 3. Mario Mendoza got his second save of the season pitching a scoreless 9th. Alfredo Aceves took the loss for the Naranjeros to drop to 5-6 on the year.

Manny Rodriguez went 2 for 3 with his 6th home run of the year, an RBI and a run scored. Gabriel Gutierrez was 1 for 2 on the night to raise his average to .280.

Jalisco climbs to 36-23 overall and 14-9 in the second half of the Liga Mexicana del Pacifico.

Charros Top Navojoa 2-1 Behind Orlando Lara's Strong Outing

The Mayos de Navojoa may be in last place in the Liga Mexicana del Pacifico but you wouldn't have known it last night as it took a strong pitching performance by the Charros starter, Orlando Lara, to defeat the Mayos 2-1.

Manny Rodriguez drew a walk to begin the Charros 4th. Leo Heras walked and both runners advanced on a wild pitch by the Navojoa starter, Hector Velazquez. With one out, CJ Retherford singled to score Rodriguez and Jalisco led 1-0.

Navojoa tied the game in the bottom of the 5th on a lead off walk to Eliseo Aldazaba and a single to right by Rolando Acosta that put runners on the corners. Tim Fedroff then grounded into a 6-4-3 double play that scored Aldazaba with the tying run.

The Charros lead off hitter in the 6th, Manny Rodriguez, doubled to left and went to third on a sacrifice bunt by Leo Heras. Rodriguez scored on a sac fly to right by Marquez Smith and the Charros had regained the lead 2-1. That would prove to be the winning run as the pitching, by both teams, took over.

Manny Rodriguez was 1 for 3 with his 21st double of the year and 2 runs scored. CJ Retherford singled once in his three at bats and drove in the first run for the Charros. Marquez Smith, though hitless on the night, hit the sac fly to drive in the eventual winning run in the 6th inning. Gabriel Gutierrez was 2 for 2 with a double and a stolen base.

Orlando Lara, now 5-3 on the year, got the win, allowing just 2 hits and a run in 5 2/3 innings. He struck out 6 but walked 4, continuing a pattern by the Charros starters of late. Brian Broderick pitched the 9th to pick up his 15th save of the year.

Hector Velazquez, for the Mayos, matched Lara's pitching for 6 innings, giving up just 4 hits and 2 runs with 4 strikeouts. He walked 3 and saw his record fall to 0-5 on the season.

Jalisco remains atop the overall standings with a 31-23 record, one game ahead of Mexicali, los Mochis and Culiacan who are all 30-24. The Charros are 10-9 in the second half of the season one game behind the leaders.

Aguilas Overpower Charros 10-3

Game two of the three game series with Mexicali went to the Aguilas by a score of 10-3. The Charros offense was no match for the Aguilas on this night as Mexicali scored 10 runs on 10 hits, seven for extra bases, six doubles and one triple.

The Aguilas picked up right where they left off on Friday. In the top of the 1st, Dave Sappelt led off the game with a double and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by Walter Ibarra. Sappelt scored on a sac fly to left by Luis Juarez to make the score 1-0 Mexicali.

The Aguilas added to their lead in the top of the 3rd. Gil Velazquez doubled to left with one out. After Dave Sappelt struck out, Walter Ibarra doubled to center to drive home Valazquez for the 2-0 lead.

Wildness got the better of Charros starter Orlando Lara in the 4th. Josh Whitesell hit a lead off with a double and went to third on a sacrifice bunt by Mike Bianucci. Lara then hit Xorge Carrillo with a pitch and walked Chris Roberson to load the bases. Another walk, this time to Ricardo Serrano, forced in Whitesell for the third run of the night for Mexicali. Gil Velazaquez then hit a bases clearing double to put Mexicali up 6-0. Luis Rodriguez came on in relief of Lara for the Charros and walked Dave Sappelt on four pitches. Walter Ibarra followed with a triple off the wall in right center to score Valazquez and Sappelt. Luis Juarez grounded out to first to score Ibarra and the Aguilas led 9-0.

The Charros got a run back in the bottom of the 6th to cut the lead to 9-1. Eduardo Arredondo singled and scored on a double by Manny Rodriguez.

In the top of the 7th, Josh Whitesell led off with a double for Mexicali, went to third on a double by Xorge Carrillo and scored on a sac fly by Misael German for a 10-1 lead.

Jalisco scored 2 runs in the bottom of the 7th as Japhet Amador walked, Marquez Smith doubled and Brendan Harris singled to score pinch runner Jesus Cota. Amadeo Zazueta then hit a sac fly to score Smith and the score was 10-3, then final score.

Caneros Shutout Charros 6-0 On Excellent Pitching By Terance Marin

The Caneros de Los Mochis took the third game of the three game series with jalisco, 6-0, behind the outstanding pitching of starter Terance Marin and reliever Andres Avila.

Orlando Lara, of the Charros had a one hitter through four innings. Lara gave up a lead off walk to Yancarlo Angulo to lead off the 5th. Angulo moved up on a sacrifice bunt by Sebastian Valle and scored two batters later on a single by Justin Christian. The Caneros led 1-0.

Terance Marin was pitching a no-hitter until Eduardo Arredondo singled with two outs in the bottom of the 6th. The Charros could not take advantage of the base runner as Manny Rodriguez struck out to end the inning with the Caneros still leading 1-0.

The Caneros added to their lead in the top of the 8th. Greg Golson singled to center to lead off the inning. Juan Gamboa advanced Golson on a sacrifice bunt. Juan Pedroso walked. Adrian Ramirez replaced Mario Mendoza for the Charros and walked Ramon Orantes to load the bases. One batter later, Gloson scored on a single by Yancarlo Angulo. Sebastian Valle then cleared the bases on a grand slam home run to deep center to give the Caneros a 6-1 lead that would hold for the victory.

Jalisco managed just three hits off of Terance Marin and reliever Andres Avila and Eduardo Arredondo had two of them, going 2 for 4 in the loss. The Charros struck out 7 times and didn't receive a free pass all game. Marin picked up the win to move to 1-1 on the year, while Orlando lara took the loss to fall to 4-2 on the season. Lara went 6 2/3 innings giving up just three hits but walking 4 and striking out 4. Charros reliever Adrian Ramirez gave up the grand slam to Sebastian Valle.

The Charros fall to 26-18 overall and 5-4 in the second half of the Liga de Mexicana del Pacifico while the Caneros climb to 24-20 overall.

Charros Beat Yaquis de Obregon 11-2

The Charros supported starter Orlando Lara with 4 home runs as Jalisco cruised to an 11-2 victory in the first game of a three game series with the Liga Mexicana del Pacifico first half champion Yaquis de Obregon.

With one out in the top of the 1st, Manny Rodriguez hot a solo home run just inside the left field foul pole and over the 325' sign to give the Charros an early 1-0 lead.

In the bottom of the first, Lara walked himself into trouble. Christian Villanueva singled and Agustin Murillo drew a base on balls. Luis Fonseca was hit by a pitch and Carlos Valencia walked to force in Villanueva to tie the score at 1.

Obregon took the lead in the bottom of the second on a lead off double by Said Gutierrez and a throwing error by Orlando Lara on a sacrifice bunt attempt by Nicolas Garcia that scored Gutierrez. Obregon had taken a 2-1 lead.

Gabriel Gutierrez hit a lead off home run in the Jalisco 5th inning to tie the score. Jesus Lopez then singled. Leo Heras and Manny Rodriguez singled to load the bases. CJ Retherford hit a sac fly to left to score Lopez for a 3-2 Charros lead.

In the top of the 7th, Ivan Araujo singled and Leo Heras walked. On a double steal, Araujo scored and Heras went to third when the Obregon catcher threw wildly to third and the ball sailed into left. Manny Rodriguez hit a sac fly to left to score Heras and Jalisco led 5-2.

Marquez Smith lead off the top of the 8th with a solo home run. Gabriel Gurierrez and Ivan Araujo singled and Leo Heras walked to load the bases. Manny Rodrigues singled to drive in Gutierrez and Araujo. CJ Retherford hit his second double of the night to plate Heras and give the Charros a 9-2 lead.

Jesus Cota hit the 4th home run of the evening for Jalisco in the top of the 9th. Gabriel Gutierrez, Ivan Araujo and Leo Heras all singled, with Gutierrez scoring, for the final 11-2 margin of victory.

Orlando Lara picked up the win for the Charros to improve to 4-1 on the year while Alejandro Martinez took the loss to fall to 1-5 for the season.

Leo Heras wae 2 for 4 with an RBI  and 2 runs scored. Manny Rodrigues had a home run and 2 singles in 5 at bats with 4 RBIs. CJ Retherford went 2 for 4 with 2 doubles and 2 RBIs. Marquez Smith hit the solo home run in his 4 trips to the plate. Gabriel Gutierrez was 3 for 5 with a home run, an RBI and 3 runs scored. Jesus Cota went 1 for 4 with a solo home run.

Jalisco Tops The Mayos de Navojoa 6-3

The Charros de Jalisco reached the midway point of their 68 game schedule with a 6-3 victory over the Mayos de Navojoa on Wednesday night. The Charros are 20-14 on the season.

Orlando Lara picked up the win for Jalisco to improve to 3-1 on the year and Brian Broderick notched his 12th save of the campaign. Hector Velazquez was saddled with the loss for Navojoa his first loss of the year against no wins.

Jose Chavez led off the game with a double for the Mayos and scored on a triple by Tim Federowicz for the early 1-0 lead.
 
Jalisco responded with a 2 spot in the 2nd. Brendan Harris walked to lead off. Gabriel Gutierrez waited out a walk to put runners at 1st and 2nd with no outs. Both runners moved up on a sacrifice bunt by Ivan Araujo. Jesus Lopez hit a sac fly to center to score Harris. Hector Velazquez then launched a wild pitch to score Gutierrez and the Charros were ahead 2-1.

Jesus Lopez tripled to lead off the 5th inning for the Charros. Eduardo Arredondo hit a sac fly to left that brought home Lopez and Manny Rodriguez followed with a single. Ruddy Acosta replaced Velazquez on the mound for the Mayos and walked Leo Heras. Japhet Amador doubled to left to score Rodriguez and Marquez Smith doubled to score Heras and Amador. Jalisco had scored their 6 runs for the night.

In the top of the 6th, Tim Federowicz hit a solo home run to narrow the Charros lead to 6-2.

With David Kopp pitching for the Charros in the top of the 9th, Diego Madero hit his first home run of the year for Navojoa. The score was 6-3 Jalisco. After recording an out and walking Alan Sanchez, Kopp was replaced by Brian Broderick who got the final two outs and preserved the victory for Lara.

The Charros scored their 6 runs on just 6 hits, 3 of which went for extra bases. Marquez Smith was 2 for 4 with a double and 2 RBIs. Japhet Amador went 1 for 4 with a double and an RBI. Jesus Lopez had a triple in his two official at bats.

Orlando Lara pitched a good game, going 6 innings, giving up just 2 runs on 7 hits. Adrian Ramirez was credited with a hold. Brian Broderick lowered his ERA to 0.53 with a scoreless 2/3 on an inning.

The Charros have won two games in a row and their record stands at 20-14, a full game behind the Yaquis de Obregon, for 2nd place in the Liga de Mexicana del Pacifico and a game in front of the Aguilas de Mexicali.

Naranjeros Shutout Charros 4-0

Juan Oramas, starting pitcher for Hermosillo, shut out the Charros on 1 hit through 6 innings last night to beat the Jalisco team 4-0. Oramas walked only 1 while striking out 7. Oramas set down the first 13 Charros he faced before giving up a single to Cory Vaughn with one out in the 5th. Leo Rosales, Heriberto Ruelas and Jesus Castillo allowed just 1 hit over the last 3 innings to seal the win for Hermosillo.

Jerry Owens led off the bottom of the 1st for Hermosillo with a double. Justin Greens singled and Adan Munos singled to drive in Owens with the first run. With one out Greene stole third and then scored on a sac fly to center by Matt Padgett and the Naranjeros led 2-0.

In the botom of the 4th, Yunesky Sanchez singled. Sebastian Elizalde laid down a bunt that the Charros infielders couldn't handle and Hermosillo had runners on 1st and 2nd with no outs. Carlos Gastelum singled to drive in Sanchez and took second on the throw home. Jorge Flores then hit a sac fly to score Elizalde for the 4-0 lead and the eventual final score.

Orlando Lara started and took the loss for Jalisco, dropping his record to 2-1 on the year. He gave up 6 hits over 3 1/3 innings and was responsible for all 4 Hermosillo runs.

Marquez Smith, with a single in the 7th, and Cory Vaughn had the only hits for Jalisco.

The Charros fall to 17-12 on the year, 1/2 game in front of the idle Yaquis de Obregon and atop the standings of the Liga de Mexicana del Pacifico. The Naranjeros, with the win, are now 12-17, five games behind Jalisco in the league standings.

The Tomateros de Culiacan bring their 2 game winning streak to Zapopan for 3 games starting tonight through Sunday.

Caneros Even Series With Charros with 5-4 Win

Orlando Lara started well for the Carros, giving up just one hit over the first two innings. In the bottom of the third though, it was a different story.

Emmanuel Avila led off the inning being hit by a pitch. Avila moved to third when Rodolfo Amador reached safely, and went to second, on throwing error by Lara on a sacrifice bunt. Antonio Lamas, tonight a Charros killer with 4 RBIs, then cleared the bases with a 3 run home run to left for the 3-0 Caneros lead. The Caneros then loaded the bases before Lara got Yancarlo Angulo to fly out to center to end the inning and avoid further damage.

The Charros got a run back in the top of the 4th. Gabriel Gutierrez reached second safely on a throwing error by the Caneros' shortstop. A ground ball to short moved Gutierrez to third who then scored on a single by Jose Felix to cut the Caneros lead to 3-1.

Jalisco took the lead in the top of the 5th, scoring three runs. Eduardo Arredondo and Manny Rodriguez singled and came around to score on Cory Vaughn's third home run of the year, a three run shot that put the Charros ahead 4-3.

The score remained 4-3 Charros until the bottom of the 7th. Rodolfo Amador singled to right to lead off the inning for los Mochis. Justin Christian sacrificed Amador to second. Ken Sigman came on in relief for the Charros and gave up a single to the first batter he faced, Antonio Lamas, that scored Amador to tie the game at 4.

The Caneros took the lead for good in the bottom of the 8th. With one out, Sandy Madera reached, and moved to second on a throwing error by Jesus Lopez. Brian Burgamy was intentionally walked. After a pitching change for the Charros, Ernesto Molinet doubled to score Madera and the Caneros had the 5-4 lead and the final margin of victory.

Manuel Flores took the loss for the Charros to fall to 0-1 on the year. Orlando Lara saw his ERA climb from 0.57 to 1.31 with the 2 earned runs he allowed. Andres Avila got the win for los Mochis.

The Caneros are now 9-10 on the season, still 3 1/2 games behind Mazatlan while the Charros fall to 11-8, a game and a half game out of the lead.

These two teams play the rubber match of the series today in los Mochis before the Charros return home to take on the league leading Venados de Mazatlan in a crucial three game set beginning on Tuesday the 4th of November.

Charros Sweep Mexicali With 2-1 Win

The Charros swept the three game series with the Aguilas de Mexicali Eagles with a 2-1 victory on Sunday afternoon, Family Day at Panamerican Stadium.

The pitching was very good by the starters for both teams. Orlando Lara, starter for the Charros went 5 complete innings allowing 3 hits, no runs, 4 base on balls while striking out three. Omar Espinoza of the Aguilas went 6 innings without allowing a run while giving up 4 hits with 2 walks and 4 strikeouts. Espinoza lowered his ERA to 1.04 on the year.

In the top of the 7th, with one out, the Aguilas' Gil Valezquez singled to center. Chris Roberson then doubled to left center that scored Valezquez. Roberson stole third but the Charros reliever, Murphy Smith, got Walter Ibarra to ground out to second and Xorge Carrillo to ground out to first to end the inning but the Aguilas had the 1-0 lead.

Jalisco tied the score in the bottom of the 8th. Mario Meza, on in relief, gave up a double to Jesus Lopez with one out. Jose Sanchez replaced Meza for the Aguilas. Sanchez threw a wild pitch that got Lopez to third. Eduardo Arredondo hit a sac fly to left that plated Lopez and the score was 1-1.

Brian Broderick came on in relief to pitch the 9th for the Charros and he pitched another 1-2-3 9th inning. He would pick up the win when the Charros scored in the bottom of the 9th.

Marquez Smith grounded out to short to lead off the 9th for the Charros. Cory Vaughn was hit by a pitch and immediately stole second. Amadeo Zazueta singled to center to score Vaughn and the Charros had their second walk off win in as many games.

Orlando Lara lowered his ERA to 0.57 and Brian Broderick, with the win, is now 2-0 with 5 saves and an ERA of 1.08 on the year.

Marquez Smith was 2 for 4 with a double while Manny Rodriguez went 2 for 4 to bring his batting average to .362 on the year. Eduardo Arredondo, although 0 for 3, had the game tying sac fly in the 8th. Jesus Lopez went 1 for 3 with a double to maintain his .333 average on the season while Amadeo Zazueta went 1 for 2 with the game winning RBI.

The Yaquis de Obregon come to Zapopan for a three game series beginning on Monday the 27th of October. With the win today the Charros are 9-5 on the year, tied with the Venados de Mazatlan for the league lead.

Charros Top Navojoa 6-4

The Charros de Jalisco powered their way to a 6-4 victory last night over the Mayos de Navojoa. Orlando Lara picked up the win with the help of two home runs by Leo Hera and a home run by Marquez Smith.

Jalisco scored a run in the top of the 1st with a solo home run by Heras off of Navojoa starter, Mario Gonzalez, and the Charros led 1-0.

In the 3rd, Gabriel Gutierrez led off with a double and went to third on a single by Jesus Lopez. Lopez moved up to second on a wild pitch. Eduardo Arredondo grounded out 4-3 as Gutierrez scored and Lopez went to third. Leo Heras then,stroked a hard shot up the middle that caromed off the glove of the Mayos second baseman into left center for a double that scored Lopez. The lead was now 3-0 Charros.

Navojoa got a run back in the bottom of the 3rd. Jose Chavez doubled to lead off. Jon Weber drew a base on balls. Orlando Lara then struck out Luis Fonseca and Chris Marrero but Rolando Acosta singled to right to drive in Chavez. Acosta was thrown out at second trying to stretch his single into a double to end the inning. The Jalisco was 3-1.

Marquez Smith, of the Charros, walked to lead off the top of the 4th. Smith stole second and went to third on a throwing error by the Mayos catcher, Genaro Andrade. Smith then scored on a single by Jesus Cota to increase the Charros lead to 4-1.

Leo Heras hit his second home run of the night in the top of the 5th for a 5-1 Charros lead.

Navojoa's reliever Estaban Haro started the 6th and Marquez Smith greeted Haro with a solo home run, Smith's third of the year, as Jalisco increased their lead to 6-1.

Ken Sigman had replaced Orlando Lara in the 6th. In the bottom of the 7th Sigman gave up a solo home run to Eliseo Aldazaba and the Mayo's had cut the lead to 6-2.

Adrian Rameriz, pitching for the Charros to start the bottom of the ninth, gave up a single to Rolando Acosta and a 2 run home run to Reggie Ambercrombie and the Charros lead was down to 6-4.

Brian Broderick entered the game with two outs in the ninth and got pinch hitter Fernando Flores to ground out to second to preserve the win for Lara, who is now 2-0 on the year, and pick up his fourth save of the season.

The Charros de Jalisco improve to 6-3 on the young season while the Mayos de Navojoa fall to 2-7. These two teams play again tonight in a continuation of their three game series.

Leo Heras was 3 for 4 with 2 home runs and a double, 3 RBIs and 2 runs scored. Marquez Smith was 1 for 2 with a home run, 2 walks, an RBI and 2 runs scored. Jesus Cota went 2 for 4 with an RBI.

Orlando Lara pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up 1 run with 3 base on balls and 6 strikeouts. His ERA on the year is 0.84. Brian Broderick lowered his ERA to 1.69.
