Mexicali Doubles up Mazatlan 4-2

The Aguilas de Mexicali took the lead in the bottom of the 5th, added an insurance run in the 8th and got 4 excellent innings of work from four relief pitchers to get the win and improve to 8-9 on the season.

Dalton Rodriguez (3-0) picked up the win in relief of starter Miguel Pena and Jake Sanchez earned his 5th save of the year. Mazatlan starter, Jose Hernandez (1-2), gave up 3 runs on 6 hits in taking the loss for the 10-8 Venados.

Mazatlan began the scoring in the 2nd on a walk, a single and a single by Jesus Fabela that scored Alex Liddi for the early 1-0 lead.

Mexicali answered in their half of the 3rd when David Harris doubled to center to drive in Misael German to tie the score at 1.

With one out in the top of the 5th, Fabela drew a base on balls and advanced to second on a balk. Fabela scored on a single by Gilberto Galaviz as Mazatlan took a 2-1 lead.

The Aguilas retook the lead for good in the bottom of the 5th. Jason Bourgeois singled with one out. After a strikeout for out number two, Harris singled. CJ Retherford doubled to right to drive in Bourgeois and Harris and Mexicali had the 3-2 lead.

With one out in the bottom of the 8th, two singles and a sac fly by Daniel Castro scored Xorge Carrillo to add an insurance run and the 4-2 lead.

Mexicali Over Jalisco 5-4 in 10 Innings

DAVID HARRIS SINGLES TO DRIVE IN THE WINNING RUN

Jalisco jumped out to a 1-0 lead after 1 inning but the Aguias were relentless and took a 4-2 lead into the 8th inning. Manny Rodriguez doubled in the 1st, his 183rd double in his LMP career. Rodriguez tied Oswaldo Morejon for 5th place in doubles in the LMP.

Will Oliver, the Charros starter, held Mexicali in check until the top of the 5th. Colin Walsh led off the inning with a double and Xorge Carrillo drew a base on balls. Ricky Alvarez followed with a double to score Walsh but Alvarez was out at third when Carrillo stopped at third and Alvarez didn't notice. Ricardo Serrano singled to drive in Carrillo and the Aguilas took a 2-1 lead.

The Charros tied the game in their half of the 5th. Yadir Drake walked and Niko Vasquez singled. A force out put runners on the corners and Drake scored on a wild pitch.

Mexicali retook the lead in the 7th when Carrillo, who had singled, scored in front of an Alvarez home run to left center for the 4-2 Aguilas lead.

In the see saw game, Jalisco scored 2 runs of their own in the bottom of the 8th. Daniel Carbonell doubled to begin the inning and scored on back-to-back wild pitches. Amadeo Zazueta doubled and scored on a single by Japhet Amador. The score was tied at 4.

Neither team scored in the 9th, setting up the extra inning excitement for the Aguilas fans. With 1 out, 3 consecutive singles, the last by Harris, gave Mexicali the 5-4 lead and when the Charros went down in order the Aguilas had the win.

Dalton Rodriguez (2-0) got the win in relief and Jake Sanchez earned his 4th save of the season. Aaron Kurcz (0-1) took the loss With the win, Mexicali improved to 7-6 on the season while the Charros fell to 7-7.

Mexicali Overcomes Navojoa 5-2 in 11 Innings

MAYOS PITCHING FALLS APART IN EXTRA INNINGS

The Mayos de Navojoa used 3 pitchers in the 11th inning and hoped to keep the Aguilas from scoring. It didn't work.Jorge Rivera hit David Harris with a pitch to start the inning. A botched sacrifice bunt attempt cut down Harris at second. With pinch hitter Jon Del Campo at the plate, Rivera uncorked 2 consecutive wild pitches to advance Javier Salazar to third. Del Campo was intentionally walked. Xorge Carrillo  doubled to score Salazar. After a pitching change and with 2 outs, Juan Perez singled on a bunt to third that scored pinch runner Alan Sanchez with Carrillo moving to third. Pitchers were changed again. Perez was caught trying to steal second but Carrillo scored on the play, giving the Aguilas a 5-2 lead.

Jake Sanchez, the Aguilas closer, gave up a walk to Elmer Reyes and walked Luis Fonseca. Both runners advanced on a grounder back to the pitcher for the second out. With runners at second and third, Carlos Mendivil hit a ground ball to third to end the game with the Mexicali win.

Dalton Rodriguez (1-0) got the win in relief and Sanchez earned hie second save. Rivera (0-1) took the loss, allowing 3 runs on 1 hit in his 1/3 inning on the mound.

David Harris was 1 for 4 with a home run for Mexicali.

The Aguilas improved to 3-1 on the season while the Mayos fall to 2-2 with the loss.
