Venados Sweep Charros With 6-2 Win In Game 3

JALISCO DROPS 4TH STRAIGHT GAME

The Charros fell behind early to Mazatlán and couldn't catch up as they lost the series to the Venados. Jalisco was outscored by Mazatlán 17-7 in the series.

Jesus Sanchez (2-1), the Mazatlán starter, threw 6 innings of shutout ball, holding the Charros to just 3 hits while striking out 3.

Marc Tovar (2-2) pitched well for 5 1/3 innings before his game fell apart in the 6th inning when the Venados scored 3 runs to take a 6-0 lead.

Mazatla scored in the bottom of the 1st inning when Cyle Hankerd hit a sacrifice fly to left that scored Jeremias Pineda for the 1-0 lead. Pineda had reached third on a wild pitch by Tovar.

Hankerd drove in 2 more in the bottom of the 3rd inning, doubling to right to score Pineda and Jose Ruiz to give Mazatlán a 3-0 lead.

The Venados broke the game open in the 6th inning. Hankerd led of with a single. Olmo Rosario singled to left and Albino Contreras laid down a bunt single that loaded the bases. Jose Felix grounded into a 6-4 fielders choice that scored Hankerd. Jesus Fabela doubled to score Rosario. After Ivan Zavala replaced Tovar on the mound for the Charros, Paul Leon hit a sac fly to right for the third run of the inning and a 6-0 Mazatlán lead.

Jalisco rallied for 2 runs in the top of the 8th. Jesus Lopez led off the inning being hit by a pitch. Alejandro Ortiz walked and Fernando Valenzuela drew a base on balls to load the bases with no outs. Eduardo Arredondo  hit a sac fly to center to score Lopez and the Charros were on the board. Manny Rodriguez followed with a single to right that scored Ortiz but when Leo Heras and Japhet Amador hit ground ball outs the inning was over and the final score was 6-2 Venados.

Cyle Hankerd was 2 for 3 with 3 RBIs, Jesus Fabela 2 for 3 with an RBI and Jose Ruiz 2 for 4 for the Venados.

Arredondo and Rodriguez had the RBIs for the Charros who were held to 4 hits on the evening.

IN OTHER LMP ACTION:

Hermosillo 7, Los Mochis 6

The Naranjeros scored 7 runs in the 8th inning to turn a 5-0 deficit into a 7-5 lead and held on to top the Caneros 7-6. Hermosillo had 11 hits, all singles, in the win while Los Mochis got home runs from Juan Carlos Gamboa and Sergio Garcia in the loss. Derek Eitel (1-2) picked up the win in relief with Juan Urquidez notching his 2nd save of the year. Andres Avila (0-2) lasted just 1/3 of an inning in the 8th giving up 3 runs on 2 hits to take the loss. Gamboa was 3 for 4 with the home run, Saul Soto 2 for 5 with an RBI and Emmanuel Avila 1 for 4 with an RBI and 2 runs scored for the Caneros. Jose Amador went 2 for 3 with an RBI and a run scored, Carlos Gastelum 2 for 4 with an RBI and JC Linares 2 for 4 for Hermosillo.

Navojoa 3, Mexicali 1

The Mayos scored twice in the 1st inning and held off the Aguilas 3-1. Eddie Gamboa (2-0) pitched 8 innings, allowing 5 hits and a run while striking out 6 and Carlos Bustamante recorded his 4th save of the year. Marco Duarte (0-2) gave up all 3 Mayo runs and walked 5 in the loss for Mexicali. Diego Madero was 2 for 4 with an RBI and Alan Sanchez drove in a run on a 1 for 3 night at the plate for the Mayos. CJ Retherford went 2 for 3 and Walter Ibarra 3 for 4 in the Aguilas loss.

Tomateros Defeat Charros 8-4

TAKE 3RD GAME OF THE SERIES

The Tomateros de Culiacan salvaged 1 game 3 of the series with the Charros on a blustery Sunday in Guadalajara with an 8-4 win. For the first time this season, the Charros pitching had a rough outing. William Oliver (1-1) started for Jalisco and gave up 6 runs on 5 hits in 2 1/3 innings of work, including a bases clearing triple by Carlos Alvarez.

Marco Camerena (1-0) scattered 9 Charros hits over 5 innings allowing 3 runs while striking out 2. The Charros had 11 hits in the game but just 1 extra base hit, a double by Fernando Valenzuela.

With the score 1-0 Culiacan in the top of the 3rd, Nick Buss bunted for a single and moved to second on a walk to Oscar Robles. Jorge Cantu was hit by a pitch to load the bases. One out later, Joey Meneses singled to shallow right field to drive in Buss. Carlos Alvarez hit a 2-2 fastball to the wall in right center that cleared the bases. A relay throw trying to catch Alvarez at third got by Alex Liddi for an error as Alvarez scored. The Tomateros had taken a 6-0 lead.

Gabriel Gutierrez and Amadeo Zazueta singled to lead off the bottom of the 3rd for the Charros. Eduardo Arredondo singled to load the bases with no outs. Manny Rodriguez grounded into a force out as Gutierrez scored. Cacao Valdez then hit a sac fly to plate Zazueta. Japhet Amador singled to put runners at the corners with two outs. Alex Liddi came through with a single to center that plated Rodriguez as the Charros cut the Tomatero lead to 6-3.

The Tomateros could have scored a run in the 4th. Ali Solis tripled to lead off the inning. Nick Buss then hit a fly ball to right for an out. Solis, tagging on the play, slid hard and short as he wound up 2 feet shy of home for the easy 9-2 double play.

Zazueta singled to lead off the bottom of the 7th for the Charros, stole second and scored when Valdez reached safely on a throwing error by the Culiacan second baseman. The Charros had pulled to within 2 runs at 6-4.

Al Solis doubled for Culiacan with two outs in the 8th inning to score Carlos Alvarez to increase the Tomateros lead to 7-4.

Culiacan added their final run in the 9th inning on a single by Oscar Robles, a double by Jorge Cantu (the Charros challenged the fair/foul call claiming fan interference but the play was upheld) and a sac fly by Ryan Solis for the final 8-4 win.

Culiacan improved to 2-6 on the year with both victories against the Charros and Jalisco fell to 6-2, tied with the Aguilas de Mexicali atop the Liga Mexicana del Pacifico standings.

IN OTHER LMP ACTION

Mexicali 10, Los Mochis 7

The Aguilas scored 10 runs on 15 hits including home runs by CJ Retherford and Ricky Alvarez in the 10-7 win in Los Mochis. Reynier Romero and Sergio Garcia homered for the Caneros in the loss. Alvarez was 2 for 5 with 4 RBIs for the Aguilas. Ramon Orantes, Jesus Arredondo and Garcia were all 2 for 4 with 2 RBIs for Los Mochis. Edgar Gomez (1-0) picked up the win in relief and closer Adam Reifer recorded his 4th save for the Aguilas. Juan Noriega (1-1) was charged with a blown save and the loss for the Caneros.

Mazatlán 5, Hermosillo 4 (10 innings)

In the second straight extra inning game between these two teams, The Venados executed a squeeze bunt in the bottom of the 10th for the walk off 5-4 win over the Naranjeros. Pinch hitter Hector Paez pulled off the squeeze as Erick Rodriguez scored the winning run. The Venados closer, Steven Hensley (1-0), got the win and Derek Eitel (0-1) suffered the loss. Hermosillo committed 4 errors in the game leading to 2 unearned runs for the Venados. Mario Santana was 1 for 5 with a bases clearing double for Mazatlan. The Venados improved to 4-4 on the year while the Naranjeros fell to 1-7.

Navojoa 9, Ciudad de Obregon 4

The Mayos exploded for 5 runs in the 3rd inning to take a 7-3 lead and added 2 more runs in the 9th to top the Yaquis 9-4 in front of 8,230 Obregon fans. The Mayos and Yaquis are now both 4-4 on the year. Eddie Gamboa (1-0) picked up the win despite giving up home runs to Roger Bernadina and Said Gutierrez. David Reyes (0-1) lasted just 2 1/3 innings on the mound, allowing 7 runs on 8 hits.
Obregon reliever Mark Hamburger gave up home runs to Quncy Latimore and Jesus Castillo in the top of the 9th. Latimore was 2 for 3 with 2 RBIs and 3 runs scored for the Mayos while Gutierrez went 2 for 3 with 2 RBIs for the Yaquis.

Los Mochis Sweeps Series With Culiacan; Venados and Aguilas Also Win

The Caneros de Los Mochis traveled to Culiacan for 3 games with the Tomateros and came away with a sweep. The tone for the series was set on Tuesday when Culiacan blew a 5-2 lead in the top of the 9th and gave up a 3 run home run in the 10th to lose 8-5.

On Thursday, the Caneros jumped on Culiacan starter Salvador Valdez (1-1) for 4 runs in the 1st inning and never looked back on their way to a 7-2 win. Valdez gave up 5 runs on 11 hits in the first two innings to take the loss. Derek Miramontes (1-0) held the Tomateros to 2 runs on 6 hits through 5 2/3 innings to get the win for Los Mochis.

Los Mochis used 5 singles, a ground out and a hit batter to score their 4 runs in the 1st. The big hit of the inning was a bases loaded single by Sergio Garcia that scored Emmanuel Avila and Yoan Pedroso.

Garcia was 2 for 3 on the night for the Caneros with a walk and 2 RBIs an Roldolfo Amador was 1 for 3 with 2 RBIs.

Oscar Robles went 1 for 3 with an RBI in the losing effort and Cesar Tapia drove in the other run for the Tomateros going 1 for 4 at the plate.

The Tomateros committed 3 errors in the game.

IN OTHER LMP ACTION

Mazatlán 4, Navojoa 2

The Venados scored twice in the top of the 1st inning to beat the to best the hometown Mayos de Navojoa 4-2 and improve their season record to 2-3. The Mayos dropped to 2-3. Esteban Quiroz went 2 for 3 with 2 walks, an RBI and a run scored for Mazatlán and DH Albino Contreras was 2 for 4 with a double and 2 RBIs. Eliseo Aldazaba was 2 for 5 with an RBI and Quincy Latimore 2 for 5 with a run scored for Navojoa. Jesus Sanchez (1-0) worked 2 innings in relief to get the win and Steven Hensley picked up his 2nd save. Jorge Castillo (0-1) suffered the loss for the Mayos.

Mexicali 5, Ciudad de Obregon 1

Efren Delgado (1-0) pitched 5 innings of 3 hit ball, giving up 1 run and striking out 5 to get the win for the Aguilas. Martin Sotelo (0-1) gave up 3 runs on 4 hits over 4 2/3 innings on the mound to take the loss.  Gil Velazquez was 1 for 2with a walk, an RBI and 2 runs scored for Mexicali and catched Xorge Carrillo 2 for 3 with an RBI. Said Gutierrez went 1 for 3 with a home run for the Yaquis. Obregon was held to just 4 hits on the night. The Aguilas took 2 of 3 against the Yaquis. 11,402 fans were there to root the home team to victory.

Let The games Begin!

TOROS SMOTHER VAQUEROS 10-3

Barry Enright scattered 7 hits, walked none and struck out 3 in the 10-3 win over the Vaqueros in the Zona Norte elimination game of the LMB playoffs. Enright gave up a two run home run to Sergio Garcia with two outs in the 7th inning before being replaced in the 8th.

Eduardo Arredondo drew a lead off walk, advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Maxwell Leon and scored on a single to center by Oscar Robles to give the Toros the early 1-0 lead after 1 inning.

Laguna tied the score in the top of the 3rd on a single by Sergio Garcia, who stole second, and a run scoring double to left center by Mario Vega.

The Toros answered quickly in their half of the 3rd. Jose Chavez waited out a lead off base on balls and moved to second on a single by Eduardo Arredondo. Maxwell Leon placed a bunt down the third base line and when the Vaqueros third baseman threw wildly to 1st, Chavez scored and Arredondo went to third. Oscar Robles then singled to right to score Arredondo, his 2nd RBI of the night, and the 3-1 Tijuana lead.

After Miguel Olivo singled with 2 outs in the bottom of the 6th and stole second, Luis Suarez singled to drive in Olivo and increase the Toros lead to 4-1. Suarez took second on a throwing error by the Laguna right fielder. Jose Chavez walked and Eduardo Arredondo singled to score Suarez for the 5-1 lead.

The Vaqueros got the 2 run home run by Sergio Garcia in the 7th to bring Laguna to within 2 runs at 5-3.

Lew Ford led off the bottom of the 7th for Tijuana with a triple and scored one out later on a single to center by Carlos Valencia. Toros 6, Vaqueros 3.

Tony Pena Jr., the LMB leader in saves with 25, was brought in to pitch the 8th inning for the Vaqueros and gave up 4 runs. Eduardo Arredondo singled and scored on a double by Maxwell Leon. Leon would score in front of a home run by Lew Ford. Dustin Martin singled to center, Carlos Valencia singled and Martin scored on a single by Miguel Olivo to bring the score to the final 10-3.

Eduardo Arredondo was 3 for 4 with 3 runs scored, Lew Ford 2 for 5 with the home run and 2 RBIs and Miguel Olivo 3 for 5 with an RBI for the Toros. Oscar Robles added 2 RBIs on a 2 for 5 night at the plate.

Sergio Garcia went 2 for 3 with the home run, 2 RBIs and 2 runs scored for Laguna.

Barry Enright got the win while the Vaqueros starter, Danny Gutierrez, took the loss.

The Toros now travel to Mexico City to take on the #1 seed Diablos Rojos del Mexico in a seven game series beginning on Tuesday the 18th of August.

IN THE OTHER LMB PLAYOFF ACTION

The elimination game between the Piratas de Campeche and the Pericos de Puebla was rained out and will be played today at 1 PM.
