Yaquis Score Twice in the 9th To Top Naranjeros 5-4

The Yaquis had built a 3-1 lead heading into the bottom of the 8th. The Naranjeros scored first on a double by Francisco Peguero that scored Eric Young but the Yaquis took the lead in the 3rd on home runs by Tomo Otosaka and Leo Heras. Obregon added a run in the 6th when Armando Araiza scored on a wild pitch.

The wheels fell off the wagon, so to speak, for Obregon in the bottom half of the 8th. Fernando Perez led off with  single but was forced at second bu Jasson Atondo. Sergio Burrell followed with a single. Young singled to drive in Atondo. Young stole second to put runners at second and third. Cedric Hunter walked to load the bases. Peguero was hit by a pitch to force in Burrell. Pinch hitter, Rolando Acosta, reached on a fielding error that scored Young for the Hermosillo 4-3 lead.

In the top of the 9th, Jesus Valdez singled and pinch hitter Moises Gutierrez drew a walk. With 2 outs, Juan Carlos Gamboa stroked a 1-0 pitch to deep center for a double, scoring Valdez and Gutierrez for the 5-4 lead and the win.

Otosaka was 2 for 4 with a walk and a home run while team mate Heras went 1 for 4 with a home run for Obregon. Young was 3 for 6 with an RBI and 2 runs scored for Hermosillo.

Brandon Brennan (1-2) was charged with a blown save yet got the win Kyle Finnegan (0-1) took the loss for putting runners in scoring position but Wimer Rios was charged with a blown save.

The Yaquis de Obregon improve to 7-7 while the Naranjeros de Hermosillo fall to 5-9 on the young season/

Oaxaca is the Zona Sur Champion Following the 8-4 Defeat of Mexico

GUERREROS TO FACE SULTANES DE MONTERREY IN LMB CHAMPIONSHIP

The Diablos Rojos del Mexico, playing in front of 6,400 fans at Estadio de Beisbol "Fray Nano" in Mexico City came out swinging in game 6 of the Zona Sur Championship Series against the Guerreros de Oaxaca, scoring 3 runs in the bottom of the 1st for the early 3-0 lead.

Mexico starter, Patrick Johnson, held the Guerreros in check for 5 innings, with just a home run to Henry Urrutia in the 2nd marring his efforts. The game fell apart for the Diablos in the top of the 6th. Yordanys Linares led off with a double to the right field corner and went to third on a bunt by Jay Austin. Yuniesky Betancourt was safe at first on a play challenged by the Diablos and the bases were full. After a pitching change, Henry Urrutia hit a sac fly to left to score Linares. Dustin Geiger doubles to score Austin. Julian Ornelas followed with a double to center to score Betancourt and Geiger. Oaxaca had scored 4 times and took a 5-3 lead.

The Diablos got a run back in their half of the 6th on singles by Jesus Fabela, Carlos Figueroa and Juan Carlos Gamboa to cut the lead to 5-4.

Oaxaca's Erick Rodriguez drew a lead off walk in the top of the 7th inning. Yordanys Linares singled. With one out and runners on first and second, Mexico intentionally walked Henry Urrutia to load the bases. Dustin Geiger waited out a walk of his own to force in Rodriguez. Julian Ornelas followed with a single to score Linares and Urrutia for the 8-4 lead and the Zona Sur Championship.

The Diablos manager, Victor Bojorquez was ejected during the inning for arguing balls and strikes. After Michael Choice was called out on strikes in the bottom of the 7th, he too was ejected for arguing with home plate umpire, Daniel Rubio.

Ozzie Mendez (1-0) picked up the win in relief for the Guerreos while Patrick Johnson (1-1) gave up the big inning to Oaxaca to take the loss.

Julian Ornelas went 3 for 3 with 4 RBIs for Oaxaca while team mates Henry Urrutia was 2 for 3 with a home run and 2 RBIs and Yordanys was 2 for 5 with 2 runs scored.

Juan Carlos Gamboa was 3 for 5 with 2 RBIs, Luis Jimenez 2 for 5 with 2 RBIs and Jesus Fabela 2 for 3 with a double, a walk and a run scored for the Diablos.

The Guerreros de Oaxaca will now face the Sultanes de Monterrey for the Liga Mexicana de Beisbol Serie del Rey to begin in Monterrey Monday the 1st of October.

Diablos Take Opener From Guerreros 8-6

JUAN CARLOS GAMBOA'S GRAND SLAM IGNITES OFFENSE

The Guerreros de Oaxaca jumped out to an early 4-0 lead over the Diablos after 2 innings. Mexico roared back, scoring 5 runs in the 3rd inning, powered by a grand slam off of the bat of Juan Carlos Gamboa. 1 run in the 4th and 2 runs in the 5th resulted in Mexico overpowering Oaxaca to take game 1 of their Zona Sur Championship matchup. Oaxaca scored twice in the top of the 1st on singles by lead off hitter Yordanys Linares, Jay Austin and Henry Urrutia to give the Guerreros the quick 2-0 lead.

Julian Ornelas and Samar Leyva started the top of the 2nd for Oaxaca with singles. Both runners advanced on a fly ball out. Alejandro Gonzalez was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Ornelas and Leyva scored on a throwing error by the Diablo's first baseman, Guerreros 4, Diablos 0 after two innings.

The Diablos struck back hard in the bottom of the 3rd inning. Ricardo Valenzuela led off the inning being hit by a pitch. Jesus Fabela singled to left. Carlos Figueroa waited out a walk to load the bases. With one swing of the bat, Juan Carlos Gamboa cleared the bases on a deep home run to right. The grand slam tied the game for Mexico at 4 all. Two outs later, David Vidal singled and scored on a double to the left field corner by Michael Choice. The Diablos had their first lead of the game 5-4.

Ricardo Valenzuela tripled to lead off the bottom of the 4th foe Mexico and scored on a double by Jesus Fabela to give the Diablos a 6-4 lead.

Henry Urrutia homered to left to lead off the top of the 5th for Oaxaca. Dustin Geiger walked and following a line drive out to short, Samar Leyva was awarded first base when hit by a pitch. Both runnaers advanced on a bouncer back to the mound. A wild pitch allowed Geiger to score and the score was tied at 6.

Luis Jimenez doubled in the Diablo's half of the 5th and scored on a single by David Vidal. Vidal went to third on a single by Michael Choice and scored on a force play for the final 2 runs of the game and the 8-6 win for Mexico.

Neither starter was around for the finish although both were touched for the majority or the runs scored. Arturo Lopez (1-0) picked up the win in relief and Manny Acosta struck out the 3 batters he faced in the 9th inning to record the save. Axel Rios (0-1) gave up 3 runs on 5 hits in 1 1/3 innings of work in taking the loss.

These two teams meet for game 2 of the series on Saturday the 22nd of September with the Diablos up 1 game to none in the Zona Sur Championship.

Diablos Move to Championship Round of the Zona Sur with Series Win over Pericos

BEST PERICOS TWICE ON SUNDAY TO TAKE SERIES 4 GAMES TO 1

The Diablos got solid pitching and timely hitting in their 3-1 win in the 5th game of the series. Mexico recorded just 5 hits but made the most of them, scoring 3 runs on 3 hits off of the Pericos starter.

Mexico moves on to the Zona Sur Championship round to face either the Leones de Yucatan or the Guerreros de Oaxaca in a best of seven series. At the time of this article, Oaxaca was leading the Leones in the bottom of the 6th inning.

Carlos Figueroa started the game by drawing a walk. Juan Carlos Gamboa, the second batter, also waited out a base on balls to put runners on first and second with no outs. Yeison Asencio hit a fly ball to left that advanced Figueroa to third. Luis Jimenez singled to drive in Figueroa for the 1-0 Diablos lead.

Mexico added 2 runs in the 3rd inning. With one out, Juan Carlos Gamboa drew a walk but was forced at second on a ground ball by Yeison Asencio. Asencio scored in front of a towering home run to left off of the bat of Luis Jimenez. Diablos 3-0.

The Perico's bats were held in check, 5 hits through 6 innings. In the bottom of the 7th, Michael Crouse hit a lead off single and advanced to second 2 pitches later on a wild pitch. Daniel Sanchez hit a grounder to short that moved Crouse to third. Oscar Sanay then singled to bring in Crouse but that would be all the scoring for the Pericos in the 3-1 loss.

Luis Mendoza (1-0) scattered 7 hits over 6 2/3 innings allowing 1 run, walking 2 and striking out 4 in recording the win. Manny Acosta earned his 2nd save of the series allowing one base runner in the 9th.

Josh Outman (2-0) pitched well except for the home run he allowed to Jimenez. He gave up all 3 runs on 3 hits, walking 3 without recording a strikeout in the loss for Puebla.

The hitting hero for Mexico was Luis Jimenez who went 3 for 4 with the home run and 2 singles, driving in all 3 runs for the Diablos.

Sergio Perez went 3 for 4 and Michael Crouse 2 for 3 with a walk, in the loss. Oscar Sanay had the only RBI for the Pericos.

Caneros Outlast Charros 6-4

POOR STARTING PITCHING EARLY DOOMS JALISCO

Kyle Simon started for the Charros on Tuesday night against the Caneros de Los Mochis and lasted 2 2/3 innings before being pulled after giving up 6 runs on 8 hits as the Caneros topped the Charros 6-4.

Simon fell to 1-1 on the year with the loss and his ERA ballooned to 12.91. Seven of the 11 hits by the Caneros went for doubles.

Luis Niebla worked 6 innings for the Caneros giving up 4 runs on 7 hits and striking out 3. Niebla was pulled in the 7th inning after giving up 2 runs without recording an out. Jon Sintes picked up the save working a perfect 9th inning for Los Mochis.

Emmanuel Avila doubled in the 1st to drive in Isaac Rodriguez and JC Linares for the early 2-0 for Los Mochis.

Leandro Castro doubled to lead off the 2nd inning for the Caneros and scored on a single to right by Jesus Arredondo. 3-0 Los Mochis.

Juan Carlos Gamboa singled with one out in the top of the 3rd and went to third on a double to right  by Yadir Drake. Both runners scored on a double by JC Linares. Leandro Castro hit his second double of the game to drive in Drake as Los Mochis increased their lead to 6-0.

The Charros got on the board in their half of the 3rd. Edson Garcia singled with one out and scored on a double to center by Amadeo Zazueta. Manny Rodriguez got Zazueta home with a single and Jalisco had cut the lead to 6-2.

Art Charles drew a lead off walk for the Charros in the bottom of the 7th inning and went to second on a single by Cacao Valdez. Gabriel Gutierrez drove in both runners with a double to deep left center to get the Charros within 2 runs at 6-4.

Jalisco was unable to score again and the Caneros won the game by that 6-4 score.

Two more games against the Caneros before the Tomateros de Culiacan come to town for a weekend series beginning on Friday.

Culiacan 17, Mexicali 3

The Tomateros scored 9 times in the last 2 innings as Culiacan crushed to Aguilas 17-3. Jorge Vasquez was 2 for 2 with a home run and 3 RBIs, Ronny Mustelier 4 for 6 with 4 RBIs, Antonio Lamas 2 for 3 with 2 RBIs, Oscar Robles 2 for 4 with 3 RBIs and Iker Franco 3 for 5 with 3 RBIs for the Tomateros. Ramon Rios was 2 for 5 with a home run and 2 RBIs, Luis Juarez 3 for 4 and Wellington Dotel 2 for 4 with an RBI for the Aguilas, Edgar Gonzalez struck out 5 in 5 innings to get the win while Edgar Ozuna took the loss for Mexicali.

Hermosillo 7, Mazatlan 3

Casey Coleman won his second game of the year for the 5-1 Naranjeros working 6 innings, giving up 2 runs on 3 hits. Walter Silva was rocked for 11 hits in 4 2/3 innings to take the loss. Arturo Rodriguez was 3 for 4 with 2 RBIs and 2 runs scored and Eric Young Jr. 4 for 5 for Hermosillo. Brian Hernandez had 2 of the 6 hits for the Venados and drove in a run.

Navojoa 7, Obregon 3

Cole Garner hit a 3 run home run in the 3rd as the Mayos scored 7 times in the inning to top the Yaquis 7-3. Alejandro Gonzalez was 3 for 3, Christian Zazueta 2 for 5 and Yosmany Guerra 2 for 5 for Navojoa. Matt Juengel went 3 for 4, Joey Wendle 2 for 4 and Justin Greene 2 for 5 for Obregon. Hector Velazquez improved to 2-0 on the year with the win and Raul Carrillo picked up his 1st save of the year for the Mayos. Rolando Valdez lasted just 2 2/3 innings in taking the loss.

Venados Sweep Charros With 6-2 Win In Game 3

JALISCO DROPS 4TH STRAIGHT GAME

The Charros fell behind early to Mazatlán and couldn't catch up as they lost the series to the Venados. Jalisco was outscored by Mazatlán 17-7 in the series.

Jesus Sanchez (2-1), the Mazatlán starter, threw 6 innings of shutout ball, holding the Charros to just 3 hits while striking out 3.

Marc Tovar (2-2) pitched well for 5 1/3 innings before his game fell apart in the 6th inning when the Venados scored 3 runs to take a 6-0 lead.

Mazatla scored in the bottom of the 1st inning when Cyle Hankerd hit a sacrifice fly to left that scored Jeremias Pineda for the 1-0 lead. Pineda had reached third on a wild pitch by Tovar.

Hankerd drove in 2 more in the bottom of the 3rd inning, doubling to right to score Pineda and Jose Ruiz to give Mazatlán a 3-0 lead.

The Venados broke the game open in the 6th inning. Hankerd led of with a single. Olmo Rosario singled to left and Albino Contreras laid down a bunt single that loaded the bases. Jose Felix grounded into a 6-4 fielders choice that scored Hankerd. Jesus Fabela doubled to score Rosario. After Ivan Zavala replaced Tovar on the mound for the Charros, Paul Leon hit a sac fly to right for the third run of the inning and a 6-0 Mazatlán lead.

Jalisco rallied for 2 runs in the top of the 8th. Jesus Lopez led off the inning being hit by a pitch. Alejandro Ortiz walked and Fernando Valenzuela drew a base on balls to load the bases with no outs. Eduardo Arredondo  hit a sac fly to center to score Lopez and the Charros were on the board. Manny Rodriguez followed with a single to right that scored Ortiz but when Leo Heras and Japhet Amador hit ground ball outs the inning was over and the final score was 6-2 Venados.

Cyle Hankerd was 2 for 3 with 3 RBIs, Jesus Fabela 2 for 3 with an RBI and Jose Ruiz 2 for 4 for the Venados.

Arredondo and Rodriguez had the RBIs for the Charros who were held to 4 hits on the evening.

IN OTHER LMP ACTION:

Hermosillo 7, Los Mochis 6

The Naranjeros scored 7 runs in the 8th inning to turn a 5-0 deficit into a 7-5 lead and held on to top the Caneros 7-6. Hermosillo had 11 hits, all singles, in the win while Los Mochis got home runs from Juan Carlos Gamboa and Sergio Garcia in the loss. Derek Eitel (1-2) picked up the win in relief with Juan Urquidez notching his 2nd save of the year. Andres Avila (0-2) lasted just 1/3 of an inning in the 8th giving up 3 runs on 2 hits to take the loss. Gamboa was 3 for 4 with the home run, Saul Soto 2 for 5 with an RBI and Emmanuel Avila 1 for 4 with an RBI and 2 runs scored for the Caneros. Jose Amador went 2 for 3 with an RBI and a run scored, Carlos Gastelum 2 for 4 with an RBI and JC Linares 2 for 4 for Hermosillo.

Navojoa 3, Mexicali 1

The Mayos scored twice in the 1st inning and held off the Aguilas 3-1. Eddie Gamboa (2-0) pitched 8 innings, allowing 5 hits and a run while striking out 6 and Carlos Bustamante recorded his 4th save of the year. Marco Duarte (0-2) gave up all 3 Mayo runs and walked 5 in the loss for Mexicali. Diego Madero was 2 for 4 with an RBI and Alan Sanchez drove in a run on a 1 for 3 night at the plate for the Mayos. CJ Retherford went 2 for 3 and Walter Ibarra 3 for 4 in the Aguilas loss.
