Win Streak at 5; Charros Top Culiacan 7-4

MARCO CAMPOY WINNER IN RELIEF

Starter Alex Sanabia
The Charros scored 7 runs on 11 hits in beating the Tomateros de Culiacan 7-4 in front of 10,897 hometown fans on Friday. The Charros winning streak is at 5 games, their only defeat of the year coming at the hands of these Tomateros on opening day of the Liga Mexicana del Pacifico season.

Alex Sanabia worked 3 2/3 innings allowing 1 run on 6 hits and appeared to suffer an injury while pitching to Joey Meneses, taking a line drive off of his leg. Kenneth Sigman came in to relieve Sanabia and got the final out of the inning. Marco Campoy (1-0) got the win in relief and Brian Broderick picked up his 4th save of the season.

Hector Rodriguez (0-2) gave up 4 runs on 7 hits through 4 innings on the mound to take the loss for Culiacan.

As has become the norm, the Charros scored first, pushing a run across in the bottom of the 2nd. Max Muncy led off with a single and went to second on a ground out. After a walk to Edson Garcia, Gabriel Gutierrez singled to right to load the bases. Eduardo Arredondo waited out a walk to plate Muncy for the early 1-0 lead.

Jesus Valdez led off the bottom of the 3rd inning for the Charros with a single to center and went to third on a single by Max Muncy. Alex Liddi doubled to plate Valdez and Muncy for a 3-0 lead. Liddi scored on a ground out by Edson Garcia and the Charros had a 4-0 lead after 3 innings.

Tomateros' Ryan Lollis
Jorge Cantu singled for the Tomateros in the top of the 4th and moved to second on a passed ball. Ryan Lollis singled to right that got Cantu to third but a 9-2-4-6 fielding gem by the Charros cut down Lollis trying to take second on the throw. Joey Meneses then singled off of the leg of Alex Sanabia to drive in Cantu and the Tomateros were on the board and trailed by a 4-1 score.

With one out in the top of the 5th, Nick Buss singled to left and stole second. Jorge Cantu walked and Sigman's pitch was wild allowing Buss to advance to third. Ryan Lollis singled to score Buss and the Charros lead had been cut to 4-2.

"El Gigante" Doubles
The bottom of the 7th began with controversy. After a single by Manny Rodriguez, Jesus Valdez lined out sharply to center. The relay throw to first initially appeared to have caught Rodriguez but he was ruled safe. Culican challenged the call but after a lengthy review, the on field call was upheld. Rodriguez stole second and scored on a double to left by Japhet Amador for a 5-2 Charros lead.

Sergio Gastelum and Carlos Alvarez hit back to back home runs off of Charros reliever Mario Mendoza in the top of the 8th to cut the Charros lead to 5-4.

Jalisco came right back with 2 runs of their own in the bottom of the 8th inning. Edson Garcia walked and went to second on catcher indifference. Gabriel Gutierrez was hit by a pitch and Jesus Lopez' sacrifice bunt moved up both runners. Eduardo Arredondo then hit a ground rule double to right that scored Garcia and Gutierrez for the final 7-4 win for the Charros.
