NFL Picks Week 7

I finished last week 8-6 which brings my overall record to 52-38. Who do I have to thank for my oh so mediocre showing? The Cardinals and the Ravens to start with. The Seahawks losing to the Panthers calls into question the 'Hawks defense. And the Bears...my, my, my...the Bears lose in OT to the winless Lions.

And, of course, the Giants on Monday Night Football. The Eagles and the Giants combined for 7 turnovers and 19 penalties in one of the most hard to watch MNF games ever. Is the NFC East still the dominate force it was?

Well, on to this week:

Seattle @ San Francisco   (W)Seahawks 21-17   I hope a division rival wakes up the 'Hawks
Buffalo @ Jacksonville   (L)Bills 20-16   I hope London takes the pressure off the Bills
Minnesota @ Detroit   (W)Vikings 28-24   The Lions can't start a win streak...can they?
Atlanta @ Tennessee   (W)Falcons 28-17   Falcons back on track
New Orleans @ Indianapolis   (L)Colts 20-17   No trick plays Pagano...okay
Pittsburgh @ Kansas City   (L)Steelers 24-23   Reid may be fired after this game
Cleveland @ St. Louis   (W)Rams 21-19   Rams at home not a sure thing
Houston @ Miami   (W)Dolphins 23-17   Campbell...has he turned things around?
NY Jets @ New England   (W)Patriots 28-23   Signature game for both teams
Tampa Bay @ Washington   (L)Bucs 17-16   Neither team ready for playoff time
Oakland @ San Diego   (L)Chargers 24-20   Chargers win at home...I think
Dallas @ NY Giants   (L)Cowboys 21-20   Giants looked really, really bad on Monday
Philadelphia @ Carolina   (W)Panthers 28-17   Cam's the man...and Philly is not very good
Baltimore @ Arizona   (W)Cardinals 19-16  Could be the upset of the week

The Ravens have lost every time I pick them so they probably win to put me at 13-1. Check back during the weekend for my triumph.

The Bills give away 21 points and wonder why they can't win! The Steelers are very odd...one week great and the next lose to the Chiefs. Same with the Colts! How can the Buccaneers be bad enough to lose to the Redskins...Go figure!  Thank God for the interception of Flacco or I could very well have lost that game in OT. The Cowboys are lost without Romo! Maybe Da Raduhs are legit!

So I finished 8-6 again! I'm at 60-44 overall...hardly where I should be!

Saints Beat Listless Bears 31-15 on MNF

Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints looked like a new team on Monday night, defeating the Chicago Bears 31-15. Brees threw for 375 yards and 3 touchdowns with no interceptions in the win. The Saints improved to 6-8 on the year, a game in front of the Carolina Panthers and the Atlanta Falcons in the NFC South Division.

Jay Cutler went 17 of  31 for 194 yards, 2 touchdowns and 3 interceptions against a stingy, swarming Saints defense. Cutler was sacked 7 times for the game.

Dolphins Plod to 16-13 Win Over Hapless Jets

Thankfully last night's Monday Night Football game has come to an end. Without looking back on every MNF contest through the years I can say, without reservation, that this game between the Miami Dolphins and the NY Jets was the most boring game I have ever watched. The Dolphins beat the Jets 16-13.

After three quarters of play the Dolphins had 52 yards on the ground and 167 through the air. The Jets on the other hand had 233 yards rushing and just 42 yards receiving. Geno Smith, Jets quarterback, was 3 of 6 passing for the first half. Only Tim Tebow has ever won an NFL game while attempting 15 or fewer passes in a game.

There was a situation in the second quarter, with the Jets leading 10-6 and facing a 4th and 2 from the Miami 27 yard line that seemed the perfect time to go for it on 4th down. The Jets defense had held the Dolphins for most of the half and the Jets had 228 yards rushing at the time. The worst case scenario for the Jets, if they didn't make it, would be that the Dolphins would take over on downs at their own 27 and the Jets defense would force them to go 73 yards in a drive, something the Dolphins had not been able to do in the game. Ryan chose to kick the field goal for a 13-6 lead.

Geno Smith attempted just 13 passes all game and completed 7 of them for 65 yards with no touchdowns and 1 interception. Statistically, Ryan Tannehill had a better night at 25 of 35 passes for 235 yards but he also failed to record a touchdown and also threw an interception.

The teams combined to miss 3 field goals, 2 by the Jet's Nick Folk and 1 by the Dolphin's Caleb Sturgis. Folk's second miss came with the score tied at 13 and 10:24 to go in the game.

Caleb Sturgis connected for 3 with 1:57 left in the game but the win was not assured until Geno Smith threw an interception with 34 seconds left.

The Dolphins somehow have managed to stay in the playoff hunt at 7-5 while the Jets fall to 2-10 on the year.

Steelers Top Titans 27-24 on MNF

The Pittsburgh Steelers, down 24-13 starting the 4th quarter, fought back to defeat the Tennessee Titans 27-24 behind Le'Veon Bell's 204 rushing yards and 1 touchdown. Bell's rushing total was the highest singe game effort this season.

Ben Roethlisberger was 21 of 32 passing for 207 yards and a TD with 1 INT.  Antonio Brown caught Big Ben's touchdown toss with 9 minutes left in the 4th quarter to seal the win for the Steelers. Brown had 91 yards receiving on 9 catches for the night.

William Gay, of the Steelers, picked off a pass from Zach Mettenberger and returned it 28 yards for a touchdown in the 1st quarter.

Mettenberger completed 15 of his 24 pass attempts for 263 yards and 2 touchdowns with the 1 interception. Bishop Sankey was the leading ground gainer for the Titans with 38 yards on 11 carries.

Nate Washington caught one pass all game for the Titans, good for 80 yards and a touchdown for the Titans.

Records Set In the NFL This Week

Not much to say about theses clips but the records set are some pretty good ones. I don't think Pierre Garcon's record for most dreadlocks by an NFL wide receiver is included though.

Probably not included would be number of touchdowns by an individual player called back due to penalites in one Monday Night Football game.

Watch and learn from the Yahoo Sports aarticle/video clips here.
