Mayos Overcome Caneros 7-6 in 10 Innings

HOME RUNS IN THE 10th DO THE TRICK FOR NAVOJOA

Elmer Reyes
Elmer Reyes hit a solo home run to left, his first of the year, leading off the top of the 10th for the Mayos. One out later, Fernando Flores hit the first pitch he saw from Daniel Duarte over the fence in right center for a solo home run and the 7-5 Mayos lead.

Saul Soto began the bottom of the 10th for the Caneros with a single. Pinch runner Juan Uriarte moved to second on a wild pitch. Jesus Arredondo singled to center to drive in Uriarte and cut the lead to 7-6. When Everth Cabrera struck out and Isaac Rodriguez lined out to left the Mayos had the 7-6 win.

Oswaldo Martinez (1-0) picked up the win in relief and Jesus Pirela earned his 6th save of the season. Jonathan Castellanos was charged with a blown save for the home run to Reyes and Daniel Duarte (2-1) gave up the home run to Flores to take the loss.

MAYOS POUND OUT 21 HITS IN THE GAME

Obregon pitchers, on the other hand, gave up 21 hits and surrendered 15 runs. Nate Reed (1-1) was touched for 4 runs on 6 hits in 2 innings to take the loss. Reed was relieved by Carlos De Leon who did little to stop the bleeding, giving up 5 runs on 3 hits in 1 1/3 innings on the mound.

Victor Mendoza
The 1 through 4 batters for Navojoa were a combined 17 for 23, a .739 BA, with 9 RBIs and 11 runs scored. Victor Mendoza had a good night going 4 for 6 with 5 RBIs and Team mate Elmer Reyes went 5 for 5 with 2 RBIs and 3 runs scored.

In the 4th inning, the Mayos sent 9 men to the plate and 6 of them scored.

Obregon got a runner to third in the 4th inning on a fielding error, a walk and a fly ball to right but John Nogowski struck out to end the inning and the Yaquis best scoring opportunity.

Navojoa, with the win, improves to 3-2 on the season as the Yaquis fall to 2-0
