Charros Drop Game 3 To Aguilas 9-7

LEO HERAS HOMERS IN LOSS

On a night when neither team pitched very well, the Aguilas de Mexicali scored 6 runs in the bottom of the 4th inning and held off the Charros 9-7 in front of 13,783 hometown fans.  The Charros had 10 hits including 3 doubles, a triple and the home run by Heras but could not overcome the Mexicali 4th.

The Charros are now 8-6 following a 6-1 start to the year while the Aguilas improved to 11-3.

The Aguilas jumped on top in the bottom of the 1st inning. Wellington Dotel led off the inning with a solo home run to right. Walter Ibarra and Yuniesky Betancourt followed with singles and CJ Retherford hit a sac fly to center to score Ibarra for the 2-0 Mexicali lead.

Leo Heras got the Charros on the board with a one out solo home run to cut the lead to 2-1 Mexicali.

The Aguilas exploded for 6 runs in their half of the 4th. CJ Retherford was hit by a pitch to get things started. One out later, pinch hitter Ramon Ruiz doubled to center as pinch runner Ramon Urias scored from first. Pinch hitter Francisco Cordoba became the second player for the Aguilas to be hit by a pitch in the inning. Missael German doubled to score Rios and after a fly ball out, Dotel singled to score Cordoba and German. Walter Ibarra followed with a home run and the Aguilas led 8-1.

The Charros' Marquez Smith hit a one out single in the top of the 5th inning and went to second as Amadeo Zazueta reached on a fielding error by the Mexicali shortstop. Edson Garcia singled sharply to left to load the bases with 2 outs. Fernando Valenzuela Jr. waited out a walk to bring home Smith as the Charros cut the lead to 8-2.

Jesus "Cacao" Valdez hit a one out single in the 6th inning and went to third on a double by Alex Liddi. Marquez Smith then tripled to drive in Valdez and Liddi. Angel Chavarin hit a sac fly to center to score Smith and get the Charros to within 3 runs at 8-5.

The Aguilas answered with a run in their half of the 6th. Missael German singled, stole second, went to third on a ground out and scored on a single by Dotel. 9-5 Mexicali.

Edson Garcia doubled to lead of the Charros' 7th inning, went to third on a single by Valenzuela Jr. and scored on a passed ball to make the score 9-6.
Zazueta Double

Amadeo Zazueta doubled in the 9th for Jalisco, got to third on a fly ball to right by Garcia and scored on a ground ball to first for the final score of 9-7 Mexicali.

Orlando Lara (1-1) lasted 3 innings on the mound, allowing 3 runs on 3 hits to take the loss. Carlos Vazquez, who relieved Lara, threw 2/3 of an inning and gave up 5 runs on 4 hits including the 2 run home run to Ibarra.

Stephen Landazuri (2-1) went 5 1/3 innings for the Aguilas to get the win and Jake Sanchez picked up his 2nd save.

IN OTHER LMP ACTION:

Los Mochis 4, Ciudad de Obregon 3

The Caneros scored 3 runs in the bottom of the 5th inning, 2 on a triple by D'Arby Myers, to take a 4-2 lead and held on to beat the Yaquis 4-3 for a sweep of the 3 game series. Tomas Solis (1-0) gave up all 3 Yaquis runs on 5 hits but benefited from the 3 run 4th for the win. Andres Avila pitched a perfect 9th inning to pick up his 6th save. Ramon Delgado (2-1) took the loss. Juan Carlos Gamboa hit a home run in 4 trips to the plate and Gilberto Galavis was 2 for 3 with an RBI for the Caneros. Luis Urias was 1 for 3 with 2 RBIs for the Yaquis.

Navojoa 3, Hermosillo 2 (1st game, 8 innings)

Navojoa tied the game in regulation on a 2 run home run by Jose Chavez and got a walk off single by Carlos Rodriguez in the bottom of the 8th for the win. Carlos Bustamante (2-0) picked up the win in relief and Ronnie Shaban (0-1) suffered the loss. Chavez was 1 for 4 with the home run and Rodriguez 2 for 2 with the game winning RBI for the Mayos. Roberto Ramos was 1 for 2 with an RBI and Jose Cardona 1 for 1 with an RBI for the Naranjeros.

Navojoa 1, Hermosillo 0 (2nd game, 7 innings)

Hector Velazquez (2-0) pitched 5 1/3 innings of 3 hit shutout baseball, Oscar Felix threw 2/3 of an inning of scoreless ball and Luis De La O picked up his 1st save in the 1-0 win. The Mayos swept the double header in front of 7,312 delighted hometown fans. Alan Sanchez was 1 for 2 with a double, driving in the lone run of the game for Navojoa. Jerry Owens, Sebastian Elizalde and Jose Amador were all 1 for 3 for the Naranjeros in the loss. Marcos Rivas (0-1) took the loss for Hermosillo.

Mazatlán 6, Culiacan 3

The Venados took 2 of 3 from the Tomateros with the 6-3 win on Sunday. Mazatlán got home runs from Carlos Munoz and Esteban Quiroz as the Venados pounded out 13 hits, 6 for extra bases. Luis Heredia (1-0) picked up the win in relief and Felipe Arredondo (0-2) gave up 5 runs on 7 hits in just 3 innings on the mound to take the loss for the Tomateros. Quiroz was 2 for 5 with the home run, Munoz 2 for 3 with the home run and 2 RBIs and Erick Rodriguez 3 for 4 with an RBI for Mazatlán. Ryan Lollis and Jaime Pedroza were both 2 for 4 for the Tomateros and Jorge Cantu had the lone RBI for Culiacan. (their other 2 runs were unearned)

Veracruz tied the game at Diablos Score Late To Defeat Aguilas 2-1

The Diablos Rojos took on the Aguilas del Rojos at the Parque Deportivo Universitario Beta Avila on Saturday and came away with a 2-1 win.

Although neither starting pitcher figured in the decision, both pitched very well. Mexico's Marco Duarte went 6 2/3 innings giving up 1 run on 7 hits and struck out 5. Omar Vazquez went 5 innings for Veracruz allowing 1 run on 6 hits. Carlos Vazquez (1-0) got the win for the Diablos while Juan Sandoval picked up his 1st save. Norman Elenes (0-1) took the loss.

Roman Urias singled with one out in the top of the 1st for the Diablos and scored on Japhet Amador's single to left that put Mexico up 1-0.

Veracruz tied the game at 1 all in the bottom of the 4th. Jose Chavez doubled to left center and went to third on a 6-3 ground out by Luis Fonseca. Chavez scored on a sac fly by Ismael Salas.

In the top of the 8th, Jesus Fabela singled for Mexico. Carlos Figueroa hit into a fielder's choice for the second out. Ramon Urias then hit a line drive that the right fielder misplayed for an error that allowed Figueroa to score from first. The Diablos had a 2-1 lead. When Sandoval set the Aguilas down 1-2-3 in the bottom of the 9th, Mexico had their 7th win of the year.

Ivan Terrazas was 2 for 4 and Roman Urias 2 for 3 for Mexico with Japhet Amador going 1 for 4 with the lone Diablos RBI.

Luis Fonseca was 2 for 4 on the night  for the Aguilas.

In Other Lmb Action:

Aguascalientes 3, Puebla 2
The Rieleros scored the go ahead run in the top of the 9th on a single by Jesus Castillo and Roy Corcoran struck out 2 of 3 batters he faced in the bottom of the 9th to get the save and preserve the win for Julian Arballo (2-1). Hugo Castellanos (0-1) took the loss. Saul Soto had a double, a home run and 2 RBIs for the Rieleros in the win.

Quintana Roo 10, Monterrey 2
The Tigres got home runs from Justin Gastelum , Raul Sanchez, and 2 from Jorge Cantu to defeat the Sultanes 10 to 6. Kelvin de la Cruz improved to 2-1 on the year while Oscar Armenta (1-2) suffered the loss.  Cantu went 3 for 4 with the 2 home runs and 4 RBIs for the Tigres.

Oaxaca 7, Saltillo (12 innings)
Alan Sanchez drew a bases loaded walk in the bottom of the 12th inning to give the Guerrreros a 7-6 win over the Saraperos.  Mike Jacob was 4 for 5 with 2 doubles, 2 RBIs, and 3 runs scored for Oaxaca.  Manny Rodriguez went 4 for 5 with 3 RBIs for Saltillo.

Monclova 6, Ciudad del Carmen 4 ano
Jose Pena allowed 4 runs while striking out 6 to go to 2-0 for the Acereros and Bander Zambrano(0-2) took the loss. Raul Barron got his 3rd save.  Jose Ruiz and Antonio Lamas hit home runs for Monclova and Alex Valdez went 4 for 4 for the Delfines. 

Laguna 12, Campeche 3
The Vaqueros scored 3 runs in the 7th and 4 runs in the 8th to cruise past te Pirates 12-3.
DH Francisco Mendez was 1 for 5 with a 3 run home run and 5 RBIs for Laguna.  Roberto Lopez went 2 for 3 with 2 runs scored for Campeche.

Tabasco 1, Tijuana 0
The Olmecas scored a run in the bottom of the 6th to beat the Torros and sweep the 3 game series.  Angel Araiza (1-0) pitched 6 innings of 3 hit ball for the win and Luis Ayala notched his 3rd save.  Jose Contreras (1-1) took the loss.

Yucatan 6, Tamaulipas 5
The Leones scored twice in the top of the 9th to overtake the Broncos for the win and improve to 8-5 on the year.  Hector Gimenez went 3 for 4 with a home run and 4 RBIs for Yucatan and Jesus Valdez added a solo home run.  Cole Garner wen 3 for 4 with 2 RBIs for the Broncos.

Charros take 3 Games to 2 Lead in Liga Mexicana del Pacifico Semifinals

JALISCO TAKES NAILBITER FROM OBREGON 5-3

Obregon jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the 1st inning. Corey Wimberly singled and advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Jose Chavez. Wimberly stole third and scored on a single to right by Brad Nelson.

CJ Retherford tied the game for Jalisco in the top of the 2nd with his second home run of the postseason, a solo shot to left to bring the Charros back 1-1.

=Obregon retook the lead in the 5th on a solo home run to left by Corey Wimberly, his second of this playoff series and his third hit of the evening.

Jalisco took the lead again in the top of the 6th on a single by Leo Heras and a single to right by CJ Retherford. Heras scored on a throwing error by the Yaquis right fielder as Retherford advanced to third. After Jon Weber popped out to second, Japhet Amador singled to center to score Retherford as the Charros took a 3-2 lead.

The Yaquis tied the game in the bottom of the 8th on a walk to JC Linares to begin the inning, a single by Brad Nelson and a ground out to second by Yunesky Sanchez that scored Linares to tie the game 3-3.

With two outs in the 9th for Jalisco, Eduardo Arredondo singled and went to third on a single to right by Manny Rodriguez. Leo Heras then singled to right to score Arredondo with the go ahead run and CJ Retherford singled to left to score Rodriguez with an insurance run. When Manny Acosta, who picked up the win, set the Yaquis down 1-2-3 in the bottom of the 9th, the Charros had the 5-3 win and a 3 games to 2 lead in the semifinals.

Charros Sweep Navojoa with 5-2 Victory

The Charros de Jalisco swept the three game series with the Mayos de Navojoa with a 5-2 victory on Sunday night. Ivan Zavala pitched the 8th inning for the Charros to pick up the win while Brian Broderick notched his 16th save of the year.

Jalisco scored two runs in the top of the1st. Eduardo Arredondo singled to right and Manny Rodriguez was hit by a pitch. Leo Heras laid down a sacrifice bunt to advance the runners. Japhet Amador singled to center to score Arredondo and Rodriguez for the quick 2-0 Charros lead.

The Mayos got a run back in their half of the 1st on a single by Alan Sanchez and a one out double to left by Jose Chavez that scored Sanchez to cut the Charros' lead to 2-1.

Tim Fedroff led off the bottom of the 2bd for Navojoa with a single to right. After Carlos Orrantia struck out, Fernando Flores doubled to score Fedroff and the score was tied at 2.

There would be no more runs scored by either team until the top of the 9th. Jose Lopez replaced Esteban Haro on the mound for Navojoa and got the first two batters out on fly balls to the outfield. The third batter, CJ Retherford, doubled and scored on a double to right by Edson Garcia. Jesus Lopez then singled to put runners on the corners with two outs. Lopez stole second and Garcia and Lopez both scored on a throwing error by the Navojoa shortstop on a ground ball. That made it a 5-2 ball game as Broderick pitched a 1-2-3 ninth inning to give the win to Zavala.

Ivan Zavala, normally an 8th inning set up man, got the win to go to 1-0 on the year with a 2.70 ERA while Jose Lopez took the loss for the 19-37 Mayos.

Edson Garcia was 1 for 1 with a double and an RBI after replacing Jesus Cota in left field. Japhet Amador was 1 for 4 with his 46th RBI of the year. CJ Retherford went 2 for 4 to up his batting average to .368 on the season.

The Charros are now 10 games over .500 at 33-23 and 12-9 for the second half. Jalisco is one full game ahead of both Mexicali and Culiacan for the overall Liga Mexicana del Pacifico lead.  

Charros Best Mayos 5-1

After falling behind 1-0 in the 1st, the Charros erupted for 5 runs in the 3rd to defeat the Mayos de Navojoa in the second game of a three game set in Navojoa.

Jose Chavez singled to start the bottom of the 1st for the Mayos. Carlos Orrantia singled to center to put runners on the corners with no outs. Jon Weber singled to score Chavez and give Navojoa a one run lead at 1-0.

The Charros bats remained quiet until the top of the 3rd when Gabriel Gutierrez singled to right to lead off the inning and went to third on a single by Ivan Araujo. Jesus Lopez singled to score Gutierrez with Araujo stopping at second. Eduardo Arredondo reached safely on a sacrifice bunt that the Mayo's first baseman misplayed to load the bases for the Charros. Manny Rodriguez hit into a double play that scored Araujo and got Lopez to third. Leo Heras drew a base on balls. Japhet Amador singled to score Lopez and move Heras to second. Heras stole third in front of a Marquez Smith walk that loaded the bases again for Jalisco. CJ Retherford singled to left to score Heras and Amador and the Charros were on top 5-1.

The Mayos only threat after the first came in the bottom of the 8th. With the benefit of 2 walks, Navojoa chased the Charros starter, Ben Kozlowski. Adrian Ramirez, on in relief, got Jose Chavez to pop out to second and Carlos Orrantia to pop out to first. Ivan Salas relieved Ramirez and got Jon Weber to fly out to left to end the threat.

Ben Koslowski went 7 innings giving up just 3 hits and 1 run, all in the 1st inning, t improve to 3-2 on the year. Kozlowski struck out 4 but also walked 4. The Mayos did not get a hit after the 1st inning.

Salvador Robles took the loss for the Mayos to fall to 1-7 on the season.

The Charros are now 32-23 overall and 11-9 in the second half of the season.

Charros Defeat Navojoa 8-6

Marco Tovar started for the Charros against the Mayos de Navojoa and went 5 1/3 innings, giving up 5 runs on 7 hits, walking 3 and striking out 5. David Kopp picked up the win as the pitcher of record when Jalisco took the lead in the bottom of the 8th. Kopp pitched 2/3 of an inning. Brian Broderick got his 11th save of the year, pitching a perfect 9th inning. Linder Castro took the loss for the Mayos to fall to 0-2 on the season. Castro gave up 4 runs on 4 hits in the 8th, including a home run to Gabriel Gutierrez.

Navojoa scored a run in the top of the 4th on a solo home run by John Lindsey, his first of the year.

With two outs in the 5th, Jose Chavez singled to center for the Mayos and went to second on a single by Rolando Acosta. Tim Federowicz singled to score Chavez and John Lindsey singled to drive in Acosta for the 3-0 Navojoa lead.

The Charros answered in their half of the 5th. Ivan Araujo singled and went to second on a single to center by Jesus Lopez. Eduardo Arredondo hit into a fielder's choice that scored Araujo and Jalisco was on the board. Manny Rodriguez hit a ground rule double and Leo Heras walked to load the bases. Japhet Amador then cleared the bases on a double to deep left. The Charros had taken a 4-3 lead.

The Mayos wouldn't quit and they retook the lead 5-4 in the top of the 6th. Fernando Flores singled to left. Diego Madero also singled to left. Alejandro Gonzalez singled to score Flores and Rolando Acosta singled to center to plate Madero for the two run inning.

Carlos Orrantia doubled with two outs in the Mayo's half of the 7th. Fernando Flores reached on an infield single to third that advanced Orrantia. Charros reliever, Ivan Salas, uncorked a wild pitch to score Orrantia from third and gave Navojoa a 6-4 lead.

Jalisco put the game away in the bottom of the 8th. With one out, Marquez Smith doubled and scored on a Brendan Harris double to center. Gabriel Gutierrez followed with a 2 run home run to left, his second of the year. Ivan Araujo singled, stole second and came home on a single by Eduardo Arredondo. The Charros had the final margin of victory, 8-6.

Ivan Araujo was 3 for 4 with 2 runs scored. Eduardo Arredondo went 2 for 5 with 2 RBIs and a run scored raising his batting average to .234. Manny Rodriguez got back on track going 2 for 5 with his 13th double of the year and a rub scored. Japhet Amador had a double in 3 at bats with 3 RBIs and a run scored. Gabriel Gutierrez was 1 for 4 with the 2 run home run.

Jalisco is now 19-14 on the year while Navojoa falls to 11-22. The Charros are a full game behind the Yaquis de Obregon for the overall league lead.

Charros Drop Series To Navojoa

The Charros dropped the third game of the 3 game series with the Mayos de Navojoa 5-4 on Thursday night to drop to 6-5 on the year. Jalisco lost the series 2 games to 1.

Jalisco scored in the top of the 1st on a double by Manny Rodriguez and a single by Leo Heras to take the early 1-0 lead.

Navojoa came back in their half of the inning to score three times. Jose Chavez led off with a single against Charros starter Ben Kozlowski. Jon Weber doubled with Chavez stopping at third. Luis Fonseca doubled to score Chavez and Weber. Chris Marrero walked and a wild pitch by Kozlowski on the walk put runners on the corners with no outs. Rolando Acosta grounded into a 5-4-3 double play that scored Fonseca and the Mayos took the lead 3-1.

Cory Vaughn led off the Charros 2nd with a single but Ivan Araujo grounded into a 6-4-3 double play to erase Vaughn. Jose Felix walked and Jesus Lopez singled as Felix moved to third on a throwing error by the Mayos' shortstop. Eduardo Arredondo doubled to score Felix and Lopez and the score was tied at 3.

Navojoa retook the lead in the bottom of the 3rd on a single by Jose Chavez, a ground out by Jon Weber that moved Chavez to second and a single by Luis Fonseca that scored Chavez. Navojoa led 4-3.

In the top of the 6th, Cory Vaughn walked with one out but got picked off first. Ivan Araujo singled and went to second on a single by Jose Felix. Jesus Lopez followed with a single as Araujo scored and the Charros had tied the game again at 4 apiece.

Hugo Castellanos was pitching for the Charros to start the bottom of the 8th. He struck out Reggie Ambercrombie for the first out but gave up back-to-back singles to Eliseo Aldazaba and Diego Madero. Murphy Smith relieved Castellanos and gave up a single to pinch hitter Fernando Flores that scored Aldazaba with what would prove to be the winning run.

The Charros got 12 hits on the night. Japhet Amador was 2 for 5. Manny Rodriguez was 2 for 4 with a double and a run scored. Jesus Lopez was also 2 for 4 with an RBI and a run scored. Leo Heras went 1 for 5 with an RBI and Eduardo Arredondo was 1 for 5 with a double and 2 RBIs.

Ben Kozlowski lasted 5 innings but gave up 4 earned runs on 7 hits while striking out 1 and walking 3. He saw his ERA climb to 4.02 on the year. Hugo Castellanos took the loss, his first of the year, and his ERA shot up to 12.27 for the season.

Hugo Gutierrez got the win for the Mayos and Gene Escat picked up his 2nd save of the year.

Mayos de Navojoa Top Charros 6-1

Charros pitcher, Juan Delgadillo, had another rough outing last night dropping to 0-3 on the season with the 6-1 loss to the Mayos de Navojoa.

Delgadillo lasted just 4 innings, giving up 3 runs on 8 hits with 2 home runs while striking out just 2.

Navojoa scored 3 times in the bottom of the 3rd. With one out Jose Chavez singled and Jon Weber sent a line drive home run to right to give the Mayos a 2-0 lead. Two batters later Chris Marrero sent a ball over the fence in left center for a home run to increase the lead to 3-0.

The Charros got a run back in the top of the 5th. Cory Vaughn led off the inning with a triple. Vaughn scored on an attempted pick off by Navojoa starter, Eddie Gamboa, that sailed wide and into foul territory.The lead was narrowed to 3-1 Mayos.

Things were quiet until the bottom of the 8th inning. Charros reliever Alan Guerrero replaced Manuel Flores. With one out, Rolando Acosta singled. After Guerrero got the second out he was replaced by Murphy Smith. Eliseo Aldazaba tagged Murphy for a double with Acosta stopping at third. Fernando Flores was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Luis Borges singled to drive in Acosta and Aldazaba. Antonio Garzon replaced Murphy on the mound and Jose Chaves greeted Garzon with a double that scored Flores. Jon Weber flied out to left to end the inning but the damage was done. The Mayos would go on to win the game by this 6-1 score.

The only bright spots on the night for Jalisco were Cory Vaughn's triple and Manny Flores who worked three perfect innings in relief of Delgadillo to lower his ERA to 2.00.

The series is even at 1-1 with the rubber match to be played tonight. The Charros fell to 6-4 on the year while Navojoa climbed to 3-7.

Charros Top Navojoa 6-4

The Charros de Jalisco powered their way to a 6-4 victory last night over the Mayos de Navojoa. Orlando Lara picked up the win with the help of two home runs by Leo Hera and a home run by Marquez Smith.

Jalisco scored a run in the top of the 1st with a solo home run by Heras off of Navojoa starter, Mario Gonzalez, and the Charros led 1-0.

In the 3rd, Gabriel Gutierrez led off with a double and went to third on a single by Jesus Lopez. Lopez moved up to second on a wild pitch. Eduardo Arredondo grounded out 4-3 as Gutierrez scored and Lopez went to third. Leo Heras then,stroked a hard shot up the middle that caromed off the glove of the Mayos second baseman into left center for a double that scored Lopez. The lead was now 3-0 Charros.

Navojoa got a run back in the bottom of the 3rd. Jose Chavez doubled to lead off. Jon Weber drew a base on balls. Orlando Lara then struck out Luis Fonseca and Chris Marrero but Rolando Acosta singled to right to drive in Chavez. Acosta was thrown out at second trying to stretch his single into a double to end the inning. The Jalisco was 3-1.

Marquez Smith, of the Charros, walked to lead off the top of the 4th. Smith stole second and went to third on a throwing error by the Mayos catcher, Genaro Andrade. Smith then scored on a single by Jesus Cota to increase the Charros lead to 4-1.

Leo Heras hit his second home run of the night in the top of the 5th for a 5-1 Charros lead.

Navojoa's reliever Estaban Haro started the 6th and Marquez Smith greeted Haro with a solo home run, Smith's third of the year, as Jalisco increased their lead to 6-1.

Ken Sigman had replaced Orlando Lara in the 6th. In the bottom of the 7th Sigman gave up a solo home run to Eliseo Aldazaba and the Mayo's had cut the lead to 6-2.

Adrian Rameriz, pitching for the Charros to start the bottom of the ninth, gave up a single to Rolando Acosta and a 2 run home run to Reggie Ambercrombie and the Charros lead was down to 6-4.

Brian Broderick entered the game with two outs in the ninth and got pinch hitter Fernando Flores to ground out to second to preserve the win for Lara, who is now 2-0 on the year, and pick up his fourth save of the season.

The Charros de Jalisco improve to 6-3 on the young season while the Mayos de Navojoa fall to 2-7. These two teams play again tonight in a continuation of their three game series.
