Leones Keep Tigres At Bay With 3-1 Win

Juan Delgadillo, until yesterday, was listed on the Leones official roster as "reserve". Activated to take on the Tigres and their 3 games to none Zona Sur Championship lead, Delgadillo pitched masterfully. Allowing just 2 hits over 6 innings while walking 2 and striking out 2, Delgadillo held the Tigres scoreless in the "must win" game. Yucatan used 7 pitchers over the last 3 innings, with Adam Reifer notching the save. Pablo Ortiz gave up 2 runs on 6 hits, walked 3 and struckout 4 to take the loss for the Tigres.

Following a short rain delay, Ricardo Serrano led off the top of the 4th for the Leones with a single and scored on a double to center by Jesus Valdez for the 1-0 Yucatan lead.

Valdez doubled again in the 5th inning to score Jose Aguilar, who had singled with 2 outs, as the Leones increased their lead to 2-0.

Hector Navarro relieved Delgadillo in the 7th and, after getting Eugenio Velez to pop up to the third baseman, hit Francisco Peguero with a pitch. Miguel Aguilar was brought in to replace Navarro for the Leones and struck out Alfredo Amezaga for the second out. Leones manager, Wilfredo Romero changed pitchers again and the Tigre's Ricardo Vazquez drew a walk. Another pitching change, another walk and the Tigres had the bases loaded with 2 outs. The 5th pitcher of the inning for Yucatan, Manuel Rodriguez, threw a wild pitch that scored pinch runner Brandon Villareal with the lone run of the game for the Tigres who now trailed Yucatan by a 2-1 score.

Jaime Pedroza hit a solo home run to right in the top of the 8th inning to add an insurance run for the Leones and stretch the Yucatan lead to 3-1.

Adam Reifer came on to pitch for the Leones with one out in the bottom of the 8th inning and shut down the Tigres to get the save.

Jose Aguilar was 2 for 4 with a run scored, Jesus Valdez 2 for 4 with  doubles and 2 RBIs and Jaime Pedroza 1 for 3 with the home run and an RBI for Yucatan.

Greg Golson and Carlos Gastelum got the only hits for the Tigres, both singles as he Yucatan pitching did an excellent job of keeping runners out of scoring position.

The series continues on Thursday with the Tigres holding a 3 games to 1 lead in the best of seven playoff.

Tijuana 6, Monclova 5

The Toros de Tijuana scored 4 times in the bottom of the 1st inning and held on to beat the Acereros de Monclova 6-5 to tie the best of seven Zona Norte Championship playoff at 2 games apiece.

Jose Lopez picked up the win in relief of starter Logan Duran who gave up 5 runs on 5 hits in 4 1/3 innings of work. Mario Mendoza gave up 2 hits in 1 1/3 innings to get his 3rd save of the playoffs. Anthony Capra took the loss for Monclova, allowing 6 runs on 9 hits over 4 2/3 innings on the mound.

Dustin Martin was 2 for 4 with an RBI and a run scored, Luis Suarez 2 for 4 with 2 RBIs, Eduardo Arredondo 2 for 4 with a run scored and Miguel Olivo 1 for 2 with and RBI and 2 walks in the Toros win.

Hernando Arredondo, who entered to game as a pinch runner in the 2nd inning, was 2 for 3 with a home run for Monclova. Jose Amdor went 2 for 4 with a run scored and Flavio Romero 1 for 3 with an RBI.

Leones Lose 2-1 To Piratas de Campeche

A mistake by Yucatan reliever Eder Llamas, on a 1-1 pitch to Paul Leon, resulted in a solo home that proved to be the difference in the 2-1 Campeche win. Leon added a single and a double on a 3 for 3 night with 2 runs scored for the Piratas. Llamas (2-2) took the loss. Hector Velazquez (3-1) pitched 6 innings of 1 run ball to record the win for Campeche. Ricardo Gomez picked up his 7th save of the year.

Ivan Araujo hit a one out single in the bottom of the 1st and went to third when Hector Gimenez doubled to center field. Araujo scored on a ground ball out to second base by Jesus Valdez and the Leones jumped on top 1-0.

The Yucatan starter, Juan Delgadillo, ran into trouble in the top of the 5th inning. With two outs he gave up a double to Paul Leon and walked Maxwell Leon. After a visit to the mound by the Leones manager, Adan Velazquez singled to right to score Paul Leon and the Piratas had tied the score at 1.

Paul Leon's home run in the top of the 7th proved to be the winning run as Velazquez and three Campeche relievers scattered 5 Leones hits, just three hits after the run was scored in the 1st, while striking out 7 in the win.

Jesus Valdez was 1 for 4 with the RBI for Yucatan.

Paul Leon went 3 for 3 with the home run, an RBI and a run scored for Campeche.

Mexico 10, Saltillo 1
The Diablos Rojos scored 6 runs in the first 2 innings and cruised to a 10-1 win over the Saraperos. Arturo Lopez (4-1) pitched 7 innings allowing just 2 hits and 1 run for the win. Jesus Sanchez (1-1) lasted just 1 1/3 innings in the loss. Ivan Terrazas was 3 for 5 with 4 RBIs and Jesus Fabela went 1 for 3 with a home run and 2 RBIs for Mexico. Ramon Orantes was 1 for 2 with a home run for Saltillo.

Monterrey 1, Monclova 0 (10 innings)
Ricky Avarez hit a walkoff single to score Sergio Perez in the bottom of the 10th, the only run of the game in the Sultanes 1-0 win over the Acereros. Both starters, Jose Oyervidez for the Acereros and Edgar Gonzalez for Monterrey pitched extremely well but neither figured in the decision. Thomas Melgarejo (1-3) got the win and Jose Gallego (0-2) took the loss.

Veracruz 2, Oaxaca 1
The Aguilas scored 2 runs in the bottom of the 3rd and outlasted the Guerreros 2-1. Oscar Verdugo (3-2) scattered 3 hits over 7 1/3 innings to pick up the win and Jose Pina notched his 7th save. Oaxaca starter, Ruddy Acosta (1-3) was saddled with the loss for the Guerreros. Jose Chavez was 2 for 3 with 2 doubles and an RBI for Veracruz. DH Carlos Rivera went 1 for 4 with a home run for Oaxaca.

Ciudad del Carmen 5, Quintana Roo 4
The Delfines upped their winning streak to 5 games while the slumping Tigres dropped their 6th in a row in the 5-4 loss to del Carmen. The Delfines got home runs from Freddy Guzman, Henry Rodriguez and Gerardo Bustamante to withstand a 4 run 8th inning by the Tigres. Iker Franco hit a 2 run home run in that 8th inning for the Tigres. Oscar Rivera (1-3) picked up the win and Josh Lueke earned his 8th save. Rafael Perez (2-3) took the loss for the Tigres.

Tabasco 2, Puebla 1 (11 innings)
Pedro Diaz came through with a walkoff single in the bottom of the 11th for the Olmecas in a 2-1 win over the Pericos. JC Linares was 2 for 4 with the other RBI for Tabasco. Mario Santana homered for the only Puebla run. Jose Cobos (2-1) got the win in relief and Heberto Gonzalez (1-2) took the loss.

Tamaulipas 5, Laguna 2
Francisco Felix (2-2) went 5 innings for the Broncos allowing just 1 run on 3 hits in the 5-2 win over the Vaqueros. The Broncos used 7 pitchers in the game with Hector Navarro picking up his 2nd save. Felipe Arredondo (2-2) was charged with the loss. Ruben Agramon was 4 for 5 with an RBI, Daniel Hinojosa 2 for 5 with an RBI and DH Frank Diaz homered for the Broncos. Carlos Gonzalez was 1 for 3 with a home run for Laguna.

Yucatan Opens Series Against Puebla With 6-1 Loss

The Leones continue to face good pitching against Liga Mexicana de Beisbol foes and Friday was no different. The Pericos' Andres Mesa (3-0) scattered 7 hits over six innings, allowing just 1 run while striking out 4. Two relief pitchers for Puebla gave up two hits over the final three innings with no runs scored. Juan Delgadillo (1-3) was charged with the loss for Yucatan, giving up 11 hits, 6 runs and a home run.

Yucatan scored their only run in the top of the 1st. Ivan Araujo doubled to lead off the game. One batter later, Hector Gimenez doubled to right to score Araujo and the Leones had their only lead of the night at 1-0.

It took Puebla three batters to take the lead in the bottom of the 1st. Jon Del Campo led off the inning with a single and scored on a triple into the right field corner by Alberto Carreon. Miguel Tejada hit a grounder to second that scored Carreon and the Pericos led 2-2. 

Sandy Madera led off the 3rd inning for Puebla with a solo home run to left for an insurance run to give the Pericos a 3-1 lead.

With one out in the bottom of the 4th, Jon Del Campo singled, stole second and scored on a single by Miguel Tejada. Following a Sandy Madera double, putting runners at second and third with two outs, Luke Scott singled to score Tejada and Madera. The Pericos had a 6-1 lead and the win.

Willy Aybar was 2 for 4 and Hector Gimenez 1 for 3 with the RBI for the Leones.

Sandy Madera was 2 for 3 with an RBI and 2 runs scored, Miguel Tejada 2 for 5 with 2 RBIs and Luke Scott 2 for 4 with 2 RBIs for Puebla.

Oaxaca 6, Quintana Roo 2
Mike Jacobs continued his hot hitting for the Guerreros, going 3 for 4 with a home run and 3 RBIs in the 6-2 win for Oaxaca. Martin Sotelo (1-0) picked up the win in relief as Rafael Perez (2-0) took the loss. Jorge Cantu went 2 for 3 with 2 RBIs for the Tigres.

Aguascalientes 12, Tamaulipas 11
The Rieleros won for the 7th consecutive time, beating the Broncos 12-11. The two teams used 15 pitchers in the slugfest with Maximo Nelson (1-1) getting the win for the Rieleros as Roy Corcoran earned his league leading 10th save of the year. Esmailin Caridad (1-1) suffered the loss for the Broncos. Saul Soto hit his 10th and 11th home runs and drove in 7 for the Rieleros. Travis Denker went 2 for 4 with 4 RBIs and Hector Paez added a home run and 3 RBIs for the Broncos.

Saltillo, 11, Monterrey 10
Refugio Cervantes came through with a walkoff double for the Saraperos to overcome the Sultanes 11-10. Monterrey dropped their 7th straight game. Justin Greene, hitting .446, went 3 for 5 with 2 RBIs and Cervantes was 2 for 2 with 4 RBIs for Saltillo. DH Ronny Paulino was 2 for 4 with a home run and 2 RBIs for the Sultanes as Felix Perez added 2 RBIs on a 2 for 5 night.

Monclova 2, Tijuana 1 (10 innings)
All the scoring in the game took place in the 10th inning. Eduardo Arredondo scored on a single by Miguel Olivo in the top of the 10th for the Toros. The Acereros scored on a wild pitch and a squeeze bunt in the bottom of the inning for the walkoff win. Neither starting pitcher figured in the decision. Ramon Ramirez (2-1) took the loss while Raul Barron (1-0) was credited with the win. Hector Garanzuay his 1000th hit during the game.

Laguna 5, Mexico 3
Gilberto Galaviz hit a 3 run home run in the 2nd for Laguna and the Vaqueros went on to defeat the Diablos 5-3. Felipe Arredondo (2-1) got the win and Arturo Lopes (3-1) took the loss. Ramon Urias went 2 for 5 with an RBI and 2 runs scored for Mexico.

Tabasco 8, Campeche 1
The Olmecas hit 5 home runs, including 2 by Sergio Burruel, to swamp the Piratas 8-1. Campeche scored their lone run in the bottom of the 4th on a ground out by Josh Fields. Burruel was 2 for 4 with 4 RBIs and Jose Castillo 1 for 5 with a home run and 2 RBIs for Tabasco. Angel Araiza (2-0) got the win while Hector Velazquez (2-1) suffered the defeat.

Veracruz 7, Ciudad del Carmen 3
The 4 runs scored in the 3rd inning carried the Aguilas to a 7-3 win over the Delfines. Oscar Verdugo (2-2) scattered 6 hits over 6 1/3 innings and allowed 1 run to pick up the win and Jose Pina earned the save, getting Henry Rodriguez to fly out to center field with the bases loaded in the bottom of the 9th. Oscar Rivera (0-3) took the loss. Adelaido Martinez went 3 for 3 with 2 RBIs for the Vaqueros while David Urias was 2 for 4 with an RBI for del Carmen.

Oaxaca Guerreros Top Leones de Yucatan 6-2

Juan Delgadillo started off badly for the Leones, giving up 2 singles and a walk to Alejandro Gonzalez to load the bases with no outs in the top of the 1st. Mike Jacobs followed with a single that scored Alan Sanchez and Jaime Brena. Tim Torres then ground out to first to score Gonzalez. The Guerreros had staked starter Ruddy Acosta to an early 3-0 lead.

Luis Medina singled to lead off the 2nd for Oaxaca, stole second and scored on a triple by Alejandro Gonzalez as the Guerreros increased their lead to 4-0.

The score would remain the same until the top of the 8th inning. With one out, Yunesky Sanchez doubled and came around to score on a 2 run home run to left by Mario Valenzuela that gave the Guerreros a 6-0 lead.

The Leones got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the 8th. Hector Gimenez singled with two outs. Jesus Valdez singled and Luis Garcia hit a ground ball deep in the hole at short for an infield single that loaded the bases. Willy Aybar came through with a single that scored Gimenez and Valdez to narrow the gap to 6-2 but the Leones would score no more runs and Oaxaca won by the 6-2 score.

Ruddy Acosta pitched 5 shutout innings to get the win for Oaxaca while Juan Delgadillo gave up 4 runs in his first two innings of work and was charged with the loss for Yucatan.

Jaime Brena was 3 for 5 on the night for the Guerreros while Mike Jacobs went 1 for 4 with 2 RBIs. DH Mario Valenzuela had the home run in 4 at bats driving in 2.

Ivan Araujo, Jesus Valdez and Luis Garcia were all 2 for 4 in the game for the Leones and Willy Aybar went 1 for 4 with 2 RBIs.

4,802 were in attendance at El Estadio Kukulkan.

Diablos Rojos Outslug Broncos 16-10
The Diablos Rojos de Mexico collected 25 hits on their way to a 16-10 mauling of the Broncos de Reynosa. This was not a pitchers night by either team. The Diablos had 7 extra base hits, 6 doubles and a triple by Jesus Fabela while the Broncos had a double and home runs by Frank Diaz and Randy Ruiz.The game took 3 hours and 43 minutes to play and only 1,172 were in attendance.

Aguilas 11-3 Winners Over Delfines
Veracruz scored 4 runs in the 2nd and 4 more in the 6th to score 11 runs on 16 hits. Ciudad del Carmen managed 8 hits and 3 runs but committed 4 errors in the game. Enrique Osorios went 3 for 4 with 2 RBIs for the Aguilas and Alejandro Rivera was 2 for 5 with 2 RBIs. Alex Valdez had a 2 run home run for the Delfines. 2,676 fans turned out to watch the home team win.

Olmecas Top Piratas 5-4
Manuel Lopez singled to score Christian Quintero with the go ahead run for Tabasco in the top of the 9th and Luis Ayala shutdown the Piratas in the bottom of the inning to save the game for Jose Cobos. Osiris Matos took the loss for Campeche. Daniel Nunez went 2 for 4 with 2 RBIs for the Olmecas and Jasson Atondo was 2 for 4 with an RBI for the Piratas. 1,073 fans showed up at Parque Nelson Barrera to view the contest.

Tigres Shutout Pericos 5-0
Pablo Ortega pitched 7 shutout innings for the Tigres allowing just 4 hits while striking out 3. Jesus Castillo and Francisco Rodriguez pitched the final two innings to preserve the win for Ortega. Carlos Valencia went 2 for 3 with an RBI for Quintana Roo and Carlos Gastelum was 2 for 5 with an RBI. Jon Del Campo had a double in 4 at bats for the Pericos. 3,759 saw the Tigres knock the Pericos from the ranks of the unbeaten as Puebla fell to 3-1 on the year.

Toros Win 7-2 At Home
The Toros de Tijuana remained unbeaten, 4-0 on the year, with a 7-2 win over the Sultanes de Monterrey. Dennys Reyes got his 2nd win of the year in relief. The Toros scored all 7 runs on 5 home runs. CJ Retherford hit his 3rd home run, leading the LMB, in 4 games. Max Ramirez had a solo home run for the Sultanes on a 2 for 3 night. 5,188 were on hand to see the home team win again.

The game was suspended by rain in the middle of the 7th with the score tied.

Serie de Caribe To Begin February 2nd

5 CHARROS CHOSEN TO JOIN TOMATEROS

The World Series of Caribbean Baseball is set to begin in San Juan, Puerto Rico on the 2nd of February. The Tomateros de Culiacan, by virtue of their championship season in the Liga Mexicana del Pacifico, will represent Mexico.

The other countries participating in the series are Cuba, Puerto Rico, Venezuela and The Dominican Republic. The rosters are expanded for the 5 teams and the Tomateros have chosen 5 Charros to help fill out their team. Manny Rodriguez, Marquez Smith, Terance Marin, Juan Delgadillo and Carlos Vasquez were selected to join the team in Puerto Rico.

The games begin on the 2nd of February and the finals are held on the 8th.

Mexico opens play against Cuba at 10:05 AM on the 2nd. They play again on the 3rd at 4:30 PM versus Puerto Rico. The team is off on the 4th but resumes play against the Dominican Republic at 4:30 PM on the 5th. The team's final game is with Venezuela at 10:05 AM on the 6th.

The 1st Semifinal game will be held at 10:05 AM on the 7th with the 2nd Semifinal game beginning at 4:30 PM.

The winners of those two games will meet in the Finals to be played at 2:30 PM on the 8th with the winner of that game crowned the Champions of the Caribbean.

Charros Even Championship Series At 1 Game Apiece

SHUTOUT TOMATEROS 5-0 BEHIND JUAN DELGADILLO

The Charros used strong pitching from starter Juan Delgadillo and relievers Terance Marin and Manny Acosta to shutout the Tomateros de Culiacan in the 2nd game of the Liga Mexicana del Pacifico last night and even the Championship series at 1 game apiece.

Delgadillo got the win by tossing six complete innings of 5 hit shutout ball, striking out 2 and keeping the Tomateros off balance all night. Terance Marin pitched 2 innings giving up 2 hits while holding Culiacan scoreless and Manny Acosta, who pitched the 9th inning for Jalisco, put a little scare into the fans, allowing 2 hits before getting the last out to preserve the win for Delgadillo.

The Charros scored in the bottom of the 1st on a single to left by Eduardo Arredondo, a walk to Leo Heras and a single to left by Japhet Amador that scored Arredondo for the early 1-0 Jalisco lead.

With two outs in the Charros half of the 4th, Jesus Lopez drew a walk and went to second as Eduardo Arredondo also drew the base on balls. Manny Rodriguez singled up the middle to load the bases on a ball that the Culiacan second baseman got to but couldn't turn into a force play at second. Leo Heras followed with a single to right that scored Lopez and Arredondo to open the lead to 3-0 Charros.

Jalisco scored twice in the 7th as Jon Weber singled with one out and scored in front of a home run to left by Marquez Smith as the Charros increased their lead to 5-0. When Manny Acosta got the third out in the top of the 9th, the Charros had the victory.

After a travel day on Friday, the series shifts to Culiacan for game 3 on Saturday, game 4 on Sunday and game 5 on Monday. If necessary, games 6 and 7 will be played in Guadalajara beginning Wednesday the 28th of January

Good Pitching Gives Charros The Victory Over Obregon

Juan Delgadillo got the win for the Charros on Wednesday, going 5 2/3 innings, giving up just 2 runs on 5 hits while striking out 4. Manny Acosta picked up his 2nd save of this postseason for Jalisco. Irwin Delgado took the loss for the Yaquis.

The Charros jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the first on CJ Retherford's solo home run to left off of Yaquis starter Irwin Delgado.

In the 2nd, Jon Weber hit a one out single to right and went to third on a double by Jesus Lopez. Weber scored on a sac fly to left by Ivan Araujo to make the score 2-0 Charros.

Jon Weber drew a two out base on balls in the 4th and went to second on a single to deep short by Jesus Lopez. Weber scored on a single by Ivan Araujo to give the Charros a 3-0 lead after four innings.

The Yaquis fought back in their half of the 6th inning to cut the lead to 3-2. Carlos Valencia singled with two outs and scored in front of a home run by JC Linares.

Jalisco added an insurance run in the top of the 9th on a walk to Israel Nunez, a double by Leo Heras and a sac fly to left by Manny Rodriguez that plated Nunez and gave the Charros the final margin of victory at 4-2.

Jalisco Bests Mazatlan In Game 3 of the Series

CHARROS HANG ON TO BEAT VENADOS 3-2

Jalisco scored 3 runs in the first five innings and hung on to defeat the Venados de Mazatlan 3-2 and take a commanding 3 games to none lead in the first round best of seven series in the Liga Mexicana del Pacifico playoffs.

The Charros used another lead off walk to Marquez Smith to open the scoring in the top of the 3rd. After a Gabriel Gutierrez ground out moved Smith to second, Eduardo Arredondo singled to center to drive in Smith for the 1-0 Charros lead.

In the 4th, Leo Heras led off with a single and Japhet Amador walked. A sacrifice bunt by Jon Weber advanced the runners and Heras scored on a CJ Retherford ground out to first for the 2-0 lead.

Gabriel Gutierrez started the 5th for Jalisco by reaching on an error by the Venados shortstop. After Jesus Lopez flied out to center, Gutierrez moved to third on a grounder to first and scored on a Manny Rodriguez single to right to put the Charros up 3-0 through five innings.

The Venados scored a run in the bottom of the 6th on a single by Jesus Fabela and consecutive walks to Oswaldo Morejon, Blake Gailen and Ronnier Mustelier that scored Fabela. Reliever Carlos Vazquez got Jesus Castillo to ground into a fielder's choice for the third out and Jalisco maintained a 3-1 lead.

Heber Gomez drew a walk to start the bottom of the 7th for the Venados and went to second on a ground out by Erick Rodriguez. After a pitching change by the Charros, Albino Contreras singled to score Gomez and the Venados had cut the lead to 3-2 Charros.

Mario Mendoza came in to pitch the 9th for the Charros and set the Venados down to preserve the win for Jalisco starter Juan Delgadillo and pick up his 3rd save of the series.

Delgadillo went 5 1/3 innings giving up 3 hits and a run while walking 2 and striking out 5. Hugo castellanos, Carlos Vazquez, Manuel Flores, Ivan salas and Adrian Rameriz were credited with holds and Mendoza picked up the save.

Eduardo Arredondo, Manny rodriguez and CJ Retherford had RBIs for the Charros.

Charros Best Obregon, 7-3

The Charros de Jalisco visited Obregon on Monday the 22nd for the start of a three game series with the Yaquis and took the first game by a 7-3 score. Juan Delgadillo picked up his second win in a row to improve to 3-6 and CJ Retherford hit his sixth home run of the season.

Obregon scored in the bottom of the 1st on a single by Esteban Quiroz, a stolen base and a double to right by Brad Nelson as the Yaquiz took a 1-0 lead.

CJ Retherford hit a solo home run to left in the top of the 2nd to tie the score at 1.

The Charros took the lead in the top of the 4th. Leo Heras led off with a triple and Japhet Amador walked. With one out, CJ Retherford hit a grounder to third that scored Heras with the go ahead run and a 2-1 Charros advantage.

Amadeo Zazueta and Israel Nunez singled for Jalisco in the top of the 5th. Both runners advanced on a ground ball to first. Zazueta scored on a single by Manny Rodriguez and Leo Heras walked to load the bases. Japhet Amador hit a sac fly to left to drive in Nunez and the Charros led 4-1.

The Yaquis made a run at the Charros in the 6th. With one out Esteban Quiroz singled and Christian Villanueva drew a base on balls. Brad Nelson singled to left to load the bases. Ivan Zavala relieved Juan Delgadillo for Jalisco and gave up a single to Carlos Valencia that scored Quiroz and Villanueva. Obregon had cut the lead to 4-3 but that is as close as they would get.

Manny Rodriguez singled and scored on a double by Leo Heras in the top of the 7th. Japhet Amador singled to score Heras and the Charros had increased their lead to 6-3.

In the top of the 9th, Eduardo Arredondo singled, stole second, went to third on a Manny Rodriguez ground out and scored on a single by Leo Heras for the final 7-3 score

Charros Take 2 From Naranjeros 3-2 and 7-0

The Charros de Jalisco have taken the first two games of a three game series with the Naranjeros de Hermosillo by scores of 3-2 and 7-0.

Ivan salas got the win in the 3-2 victory pitching the top of the 9th in relief of Adrian Ramirez who had given up a 2 run home run to Jose Amador that had tied the game at 2 apiece.

Jalisco opened the scoring in the bottom of the 3rd on a sac fly that scored Amadeo Zazueta for the 1-0 lead.

The Charros added a run in the bottom of the 8th when Amadeo Zazueta singled and went to third on an errant pick off attempt. Zazueta scored on a single by Israel Nunez to give the Charros a short lived 2-0 lead.

After Hermisillo had tied the game in the top of the 9th, Edson Garcia, of the Charros hit a walk off single in the bottom of the 9th to score Ivan Araujo with the winning run and the 3-2 victory for the Charros.


Jalisco improved to 35-23 overall and 14-9 in the second half of the Liga Mexicana del Pacifico season with the 7-0 win on Wednesday night. Juan Delgadillo improved to 2-6 on the year with 6 strong innings of 2 hit ball with 3 walks and 4 strikeouts.

The Charros scored two runs in the bottom of the 1st on a sac fly by Leo Heras that scored Eduardo Arredondo and a ground out by Japhet Amador that plated Manny Rodriguez for the 2-0 lead.

Manny Rodriguez singled to right in the 2nd that scored Eduardo Arredondo for a 3-0 Charros lead.

The same tandem scored a run in the 4th as Arredondo, who had singled and moved to second on a balk, scored on a single to left by Rodriguez that upped the lead to 4-0.

Leo Heras led off the 7th for Jalisco with his 8th home run of the year, a solo shot to right for a 5-0 lead. With two outs, CJ Retherford singled to left and IvanAraujo drew a base on balls. Amadeo Zazueta followed with a double that scored Retherford and Araujo for the final two runs and the 7-0 final score.

Tomateros Defeat Charros 5-2

The Tomateros de Culiacan took the rubber match of the 3 game series with the Charros, 5-2, on a night that Jalisco's offense was ineffective, the fielding was erratic and the their starting pitching was poor.

Rico Noel drew a walk and stole second to lead off the game for Culiacan. Noel then stole third and scored on a throwing error by the Charros catcher. The Tomateros had a 1-0 lead with out benefit of a hit.

The Charros answered in their half of the first when Leo Heras singled and Japhet Amador was hit by a pitch to put runners on first and second. Marquez Smith singled to right and Heras scored. Jalisco had tied the score at 1, after 1 inning.

Culiacan loaded the bases with 2 outs in the top of the 3rd and Joey Meneses singled to score Ramiro Pena and Issmael Salas to give the Tomateros a 3-1 lead.

CJ Retherford hit his fourth home run of the season, a solo shot to left, to pull the Charros to within a run at 3-2 in the bottom of the 3rd.

Ali Solis was hit by a pitch to start the 4th. Rico Noel walked. Ramiro Pena moved both runners up on a sacrifice bunt to the pitcher. Eric Farris then hit a sac fly to right to score Solis and Russell Branyan doubled to left to score Noel. Culican took the lead with the eventual final score of 5-2.

The Charros were unable to score two separate times with the bases loaded after the 4th inning. Jalisco was 3 for 11 with runners in scoring position while stranding 13.

Juan Delgadillo took the loss for the Charros to fall to 1-6 on the season, giving up all 5 Tomateros runs on just 4 hits but he hit 2 batters and walked 4 more in just 3 2/3 innings on the mound. The Jalisco relief pitchers pitched 5 1/3 innings of scoreless 2 hit ball, to keep the game as close as it was for the Charros.

Juan Castillo got the win in relief for Culiacan. The Tomateros pitchers scattered 11 hits by the Charros. Oscar Villarreal pitched the 9th to notch his 5th save of the year

Charros Drop Opener to Aguilas 7-5

The Aguilas de Mexicali used the home run ball and timely hitting to outscore the Charros 7-5 on Friday night in Zapopan. Six Mexicali pitchers scattered 13 Jalisco hits over 9 innings. The Charros had opportunities to score but left too many men in scoring position.

Mexicali scored in the top of the 1st. Walter Ibarra singled to center and went to second on a single by Luis Juarez. Ibarra then stole third and scored on a sac fly by Josh Whitesell. The Aguilas had a 1-0 lead.

Manny Rodriguez singled with one out in the bottom of the 1st for the Charros. Leo Heras singled with Rodriguez stopping at second. With two outs, Marquez Smith singled to score Rodriguez and move Heras to third. CJ Retherford singled to score Heras and give the 2-1 lead to the Charros.

Israel Nunez hit a solo home run for Jalisco, his frst of the year, with one out in the bottom of the 2nd for a 3-1 Charros lead.

Ricardo Serrano singled for Mexicali with one out in the top of the 5th and went to second on a single by Gil Velazquez. Dave Sappelt followed with a triple off the wall in left center to score Serrano and Velazquez to tie the game at 3 apiece. The Charros starter, Juan Delgadillo, threw a wild pitch to score Sappelt with the go ahead run and a 4-3 Aguilas lead.

The Charros came back to tie the game in the bottom of the 5th. Manny Rodriguez led off with a single and scored on a double by Leo Heras. Jalisco had tied the score at 4-4.

After bringing in Mario Mendoza to pitch the 7th, Dave Sappelt hit a solo home run to give Mexicali a 5-4 lead.

Adrian Ramirez replaced Mendoza for the Charros in the top of the 8th and walked the lead off batter, Josh Whitsell. Mike Bianucci then hit a 2 run home run to right for the 7-4 lead.

Jalisco pulled to within one, at 7-5, in the bottom of the 9th. Leo Heras drew a one out walk and stole second. After Japhet Amador struck out, Marquez Smith singled to score Heras but it wasn't enough as the Aguilas beat the Charros 7-5 in the first game of a three game weekend series.

Charros Best Caneros de Los Mochis 7-1

The Charros de Jalisco, behind some fine pitching by Juan Delgadillo and four relievers, beat the Caneros de Los Mochis 7-1 on Saturday night in Zapopan.

In the bottom of the 1st for the Charros, Manny Rodriguez singled and went to second on a 4-3 ground out by Leo Heras. Japhet Amador doubled to right to score Rodriguez and give the Charros the 1-0 lead.

The Charros added to their lead in the bottom of the 2nd. CJ Retherford led off with a single and Brendan Harris walked. Gabriel Gutierrez drew a base on balls to load the bases. Jesus Lopez hit a sac fly to right  to score Retherford and advance Harris and Gutierrez to 2nd and 3rd. Eduardo Arredondo grounded into a double play to end the inning but the Jalisco lead was 2-0 after two innings.

Los Mochis got a run back in ther top of the 3rd off Charros starter Juan Delgadillo when Yancarlo Angulo led off with a single, advanced on a wild pitch, went to third on a ground out by Rodolfo Amador and scored on a sac fly by Justin Christian. The Caneros had cut the lead to 2-1, but they would get no closer.

Jesus Cota, batting for Brendan Harris, led off the bottom of the 7th for the Charros with a single. Gabriel Gutierrez followed with a single. Edson Garcia came into the game as a pinch runner for Cota. Jesus Lopez reached safely on a throwing error by the Caneros catcher that scored Garcia and Gutierrez for the 4-1 Charros lead. The Caneros manager argued over the second run scored on the play at the plate. He argued too strenously as he was ejected by the home plate umpire. Manny Rodriguez then hit a ground rule double, his 16th double of the year, that score Lopez. Leo Heras was intentionally walked and Japhet Amador singled to right to score Rodriguez and move Heras to third. Marquez Smith followed with a sac fly to score Heras and the Charros led 7-1.

The Caneros threatened in the top of the 9th, putting runners on second and third with two outs but Rodolfo Amador flew out to left to give the Charros the 7-1 victory.

Juan Delgadillo picked up his 1st win of the year against 5 defeats going 5 innings allowing just 2 hits and 1 run. Luis Niebla took the loss to fall to 2-3 on the season for Los Mochis.

Manny Rodriguez was 2 for 5 with a double, an RBI and 2 runs scored. Japhet Amador was 2 for 4 with a double and 2 RBIs while Gabriel Gurierrez went 2 for 3 with a double and a run scored.

The Charros are now 5-3 in the second half of the season. They are 26-17 overall in the Liga Mexicana del Pacifico.

Tomateros Destroy Charros Pitching With 16-5 Win

The Tomateros de Culiacan left no doubt as to their offensive abilities with 4 home runs and 16 runs scored against 4 Jalisco pitchers in just six innings on Saturday afternoon. Nick Buss, of Culiacan, was 4 for 5 with 2 home runs and 4 RBIs. Culican had 16 hits and drew four walks in the game.

The Charros collected 11 hits but could only manage 5 runs against four Culiacan pitchers. Jalisco left 12 men on base to show that their hitting, though plentiful, was not timely. Marquez Smith went 2 for 5 with his 8th home run of the year.

Robert Coello picked up the win for Culiacan and is now 2-0 on the year. Juan Delgadillo started for the Charros and took the loss, his 5th of the season. Delgadillo gave up 5 runs on 6 hits in just 1 2/3 innings of work. Manuel Flores gave up 5 runs in 2/3 of an inning and Ken Sigman gave up 5 runs in his 2 1/3 innings on the mound. Carlos Vazquez was the most effective pitcher for the Charros, holding the Tomateros scoreless over the 8th and 9th innings.

Culican led 11-0 as the Charros came to bat in the bottom of the 3rd. Israel Nunez walked to lead off the inning. Eduardo Arredondo singled and Manny Rodriguez was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Leo Heras grounded into a 3-6 fielder's choice that scored Nunez. Marquez Smith then beat out a ground ball to deep short for an infield single to drive in Arredondo as the Charros narrowed the lead to 11-2.

The score would be 16-2 Culiacan, as the Charros came to bat in the bottom of the 6th. Marquez Smith doubled and Jalisco then loaded the bases on walks to Jesus Cota and Jesus Lopez. Fernando Valenzuela hit a sac fly to center to score Smith and the Charros were behind 16-3.

In the bottom of the 7th with the score still 16-3, Leo Heras singled and came around to score on Marquez Smith's 2 run home run to right. Jalisco had climbed back but it wouldn't be enough on this night as the Charros fell by the final score of 16-5.

Jalisco's record is now 18-13, in a 2nd place tie with Mexicali and just 1/2 game behind Obregon in the Liga de Mexicana del Pacifico standings.

Sunday's game with Culiacan completes the three game series. The Charros are off on Monday before traveling to Navojoa to take on the last place Mayos for three games beginning on Tuesday the 18th of November.

Obregon Snaps Charros Win Streak at Three

The three game winning streak is over. The Yaquis de Obregon took a 5-4 win last night in Zapopan. Juan Delgadillo took the mound for the Charros and dropped his fourth decision in a row.

The Yaquis played small ball in the top of the 1st. John Smolinski led off with a double, went to third on a sacrifice bunt by Corey Wimberly and scored on a grounder to second by Agustin Murillo for the 1-0 Obregon lead.

Eduardo Arredondo led off the bottom of the 1st for the Charros by drawing a walk and moving to second on a ground out by Manny Rodriguez. Leo Heras singled to center to drive in Arredondo and the game was tied at 1.

Carlos Valencia singled for Obregon in the top of the 2nd and scored on a double by Donald Lutz. Sergio Contreras drew a walk. Said Gutierrez singled to score Lutz and the Yaquiz lead was 3-1.

The Charros came back with two runs of their own in the bottom of the 2nd. Gabriel Gutierrez singled to deep short and went to second on the throwing error by the shortstop. Amadeo Zazueta's grounder moved Gutierrez to third. Gutierrez scored as Jesus Lopez grounded out to second. Eduardo Arredondo reached second on a throwing error by the Yaquis second baseman. Manny Rodriguez singled to center to score Arredondo and the score was tied 3-3.

Jalisco went ahead 4-3 in the bottom of the 4th on a solo home run by Marquez Smith, his fourth of the year.

The Yaquis scored what proved to be the winning runs in the top of the 5th. With one out, John Smolinski walked. Corey Wimberly singled and Smolinski stopped at second. Agustin Murillo singled to plate Smolinski and the Yaquis had runners at 1st and 3rd. That was all for Delgadillo as Ken Sigman came on in relief. Sigman got Dean Anna to hit into a 6-4 fielder's choice with Wimberly scoring. Obregon led 5-4.

The Charros threatened in the 7th and the 8th but could not score.

Oswaldo Martinez got the win for Obregon with 2 innings of shutout relief work and Jonathan Arias picked up his 6th save on the year, working a perfect 9th that included 2 strikeouts.

Juan Delgadillo suffered his fourth consecutive loss lasting just 4 1/3 innings. He gave up 5 runs on 6 hits while walking 2 and striking out 5. Delgadillo's ERA remains in the 9's at 9.18.

Marquez Smith's home run, Leo Heras' 11th RBI on the season and Manny Rodriguez's 2 for 5 night that raised his average to .365 on the year were the highlights for the Charros.

Jalisco fell to 9-6 on the year as Obregon climbed to 8-6, 1/2 game behind Jalisco and Mazatlan for the lead in the Liga Maxicana del Pacifico. These two teams square off again today starting at 7 PM.

Mayos de Navojoa Top Charros 6-1

Charros pitcher, Juan Delgadillo, had another rough outing last night dropping to 0-3 on the season with the 6-1 loss to the Mayos de Navojoa.

Delgadillo lasted just 4 innings, giving up 3 runs on 8 hits with 2 home runs while striking out just 2.

Navojoa scored 3 times in the bottom of the 3rd. With one out Jose Chavez singled and Jon Weber sent a line drive home run to right to give the Mayos a 2-0 lead. Two batters later Chris Marrero sent a ball over the fence in left center for a home run to increase the lead to 3-0.

The Charros got a run back in the top of the 5th. Cory Vaughn led off the inning with a triple. Vaughn scored on an attempted pick off by Navojoa starter, Eddie Gamboa, that sailed wide and into foul territory.The lead was narrowed to 3-1 Mayos.

Things were quiet until the bottom of the 8th inning. Charros reliever Alan Guerrero replaced Manuel Flores. With one out, Rolando Acosta singled. After Guerrero got the second out he was replaced by Murphy Smith. Eliseo Aldazaba tagged Murphy for a double with Acosta stopping at third. Fernando Flores was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Luis Borges singled to drive in Acosta and Aldazaba. Antonio Garzon replaced Murphy on the mound and Jose Chaves greeted Garzon with a double that scored Flores. Jon Weber flied out to left to end the inning but the damage was done. The Mayos would go on to win the game by this 6-1 score.

The only bright spots on the night for Jalisco were Cory Vaughn's triple and Manny Flores who worked three perfect innings in relief of Delgadillo to lower his ERA to 2.00.

The series is even at 1-1 with the rubber match to be played tonight. The Charros fell to 6-4 on the year while Navojoa climbed to 3-7.

Charros Lose to Naranjeros 8-3

The Charros de Jalisco dropped the third game of the three game series with Hermosillo by a score of 8-3. Jalisco dropped to 3-2 on the year while Hermosillo climbed to 3-2.

Juan Delgadillo took the loss for Jalisco, his second of the year. Delgadillo gave up 5 runs on 8 hits with 4 walks and 2 home runs.

Roy Corcoran picked up the win in relief for the Naranjeros. Juan Oramas started the game for Hermosillo and held Jalisco to 3 runs on 5 hits though 4 2/3 innings of work.

The Naranjeros scored two runs in the top of the 1st on back-to-back home runs by Carlos Gastelum and Sebastian Elizalde.

Jalisco got a run back in the bottom of the 1st. Manny Rodriguez singled and moved to second when Leo Heras drew a walk. Japhet Amador then singled to score Rodriguez and the Charros had cut the lead to 2-1.

Hermosillo scored another run in the top of the 2nd on a walk to Jerry Owens and a double by Sebastian Elizalde that scored Owens. Hermosillo led 3-1.

The Charros scored two times in the bottom of the 2nd.  Cory Vaughn drew a walk and stole second. Wilson Batista grounded out with Vaughn moving to third. Gabriel Gutierrez doubled to left that scored Vaughn. Eduardo Arredondo followed with a single to score Gutierrez and tie the game at 3.

Adan Munoz led off the 3rd for Hermosillo with a double. With one out Jorge Flores singled and took second on the throw to third trying to get Munoz. Jerry Owens singled and Munoz scored with Flores moving to third. Carlos Gastelum hit a sac fly to right that scored Flores and the Naranjeros had a 5-3 lead they would not relinquish.

Hermosillo scored one run in the 6th and two more in the 8th for the final margin of victory, 8-3.

Manny Rodriguez and Japhet Amador were both 2 for 4 with Amador getting an RBI. Gabriel Gutierrez was 1 for 3 with an RBI and a run scored. Eduardo Arredondo had the other RBI for the Charros.

Venados de Mazatlan leads the Liga de Mexicana del Pacifico standings at 4-1 with four teams at 3-2, two teams at 2-3 and Mayo de Navojos remains winless at 0-5.

The Charros de Jalisco (3-2) travel to Culiacan today to take on the Tomateros de Culiacan (2-3).
