Aguilas Take Game 2 Over Charros 5-2

TAKE TWO GAMES TO NONE LEAD TO GUADALAJARA

Agustin Murillo Picked Off at 1st
The offensive woes that plagued the Charros in 2015 continue in the playoffs of 2016. On Friday Jalisco scored 1 run, on a solo home run, and went 0 for 5 with runners in scoring position. Saturday was better in that the Charros scored 2 runs and had more scoring opportunities but went 1 for 11 with runners in scoring position. Terance Marin pitched very well in game 1 and Michael Nix, with the exception of the home run, was adequate in game 2 but the offense was unable to respond.

Mexicali takes a 2 games to none lead in the best of 7 playoff series before heading to Guadalajara for games on Monday and Tuesday. A game 5, if necessary, will be played at the stadium in Guadalajara on Wednesday. All games in the Estadio Panamericano begin at 7:30 PM.

Cacao Doubles in the 1st
Jalisco jumped in front early on a 2 out double by Cacao Valdez in the 1st inning. Valdez scored on a single to left by Alex Liddi. Miguel stranded Liddi at second on a swinging strikeout.

Yuniesky Betancourt singled to lead off the Aguilas half of the 2nd and trotted home in front of a home run by former Charros' player, CJ Retherford that gave Mexicali a 2-1 lead. After a walk to Wellington Dotel, Xorge Carrillo hit a one out single that moved Dotel to third. Carrillo stole second and both runners scored on a single by Ramon Rios for a 4-1 lead.

Mexicali added a run in the 6th inning on a lead off double by Retherford and an RBI single by Dotel putting the Aguilas up 5-1.

The Charros would cut the lead to 5-2 in the top of the 7th, Agustin Murillo, obtained in the Leo Heras trade with the Yaquis, doubled to lead off the inning. Asael Sanchez walked. A passed ball moved the runners to second and third. Murillo scored on a ground ball out by Ivan Araujo.

Esmailin Caridad set the Charros down in order in the top of the 9th to get the save and preserve the win for the Aguilas starter, Hector Rodriguez.

Leones Lose 2-1 To Piratas de Campeche

A mistake by Yucatan reliever Eder Llamas, on a 1-1 pitch to Paul Leon, resulted in a solo home that proved to be the difference in the 2-1 Campeche win. Leon added a single and a double on a 3 for 3 night with 2 runs scored for the Piratas. Llamas (2-2) took the loss. Hector Velazquez (3-1) pitched 6 innings of 1 run ball to record the win for Campeche. Ricardo Gomez picked up his 7th save of the year.

Ivan Araujo hit a one out single in the bottom of the 1st and went to third when Hector Gimenez doubled to center field. Araujo scored on a ground ball out to second base by Jesus Valdez and the Leones jumped on top 1-0.

The Yucatan starter, Juan Delgadillo, ran into trouble in the top of the 5th inning. With two outs he gave up a double to Paul Leon and walked Maxwell Leon. After a visit to the mound by the Leones manager, Adan Velazquez singled to right to score Paul Leon and the Piratas had tied the score at 1.

Paul Leon's home run in the top of the 7th proved to be the winning run as Velazquez and three Campeche relievers scattered 5 Leones hits, just three hits after the run was scored in the 1st, while striking out 7 in the win.

Jesus Valdez was 1 for 4 with the RBI for Yucatan.

Paul Leon went 3 for 3 with the home run, an RBI and a run scored for Campeche.

Mexico 10, Saltillo 1
The Diablos Rojos scored 6 runs in the first 2 innings and cruised to a 10-1 win over the Saraperos. Arturo Lopez (4-1) pitched 7 innings allowing just 2 hits and 1 run for the win. Jesus Sanchez (1-1) lasted just 1 1/3 innings in the loss. Ivan Terrazas was 3 for 5 with 4 RBIs and Jesus Fabela went 1 for 3 with a home run and 2 RBIs for Mexico. Ramon Orantes was 1 for 2 with a home run for Saltillo.

Monterrey 1, Monclova 0 (10 innings)
Ricky Avarez hit a walkoff single to score Sergio Perez in the bottom of the 10th, the only run of the game in the Sultanes 1-0 win over the Acereros. Both starters, Jose Oyervidez for the Acereros and Edgar Gonzalez for Monterrey pitched extremely well but neither figured in the decision. Thomas Melgarejo (1-3) got the win and Jose Gallego (0-2) took the loss.

Veracruz 2, Oaxaca 1
The Aguilas scored 2 runs in the bottom of the 3rd and outlasted the Guerreros 2-1. Oscar Verdugo (3-2) scattered 3 hits over 7 1/3 innings to pick up the win and Jose Pina notched his 7th save. Oaxaca starter, Ruddy Acosta (1-3) was saddled with the loss for the Guerreros. Jose Chavez was 2 for 3 with 2 doubles and an RBI for Veracruz. DH Carlos Rivera went 1 for 4 with a home run for Oaxaca.

Ciudad del Carmen 5, Quintana Roo 4
The Delfines upped their winning streak to 5 games while the slumping Tigres dropped their 6th in a row in the 5-4 loss to del Carmen. The Delfines got home runs from Freddy Guzman, Henry Rodriguez and Gerardo Bustamante to withstand a 4 run 8th inning by the Tigres. Iker Franco hit a 2 run home run in that 8th inning for the Tigres. Oscar Rivera (1-3) picked up the win and Josh Lueke earned his 8th save. Rafael Perez (2-3) took the loss for the Tigres.

Tabasco 2, Puebla 1 (11 innings)
Pedro Diaz came through with a walkoff single in the bottom of the 11th for the Olmecas in a 2-1 win over the Pericos. JC Linares was 2 for 4 with the other RBI for Tabasco. Mario Santana homered for the only Puebla run. Jose Cobos (2-1) got the win in relief and Heberto Gonzalez (1-2) took the loss.

Tamaulipas 5, Laguna 2
Francisco Felix (2-2) went 5 innings for the Broncos allowing just 1 run on 3 hits in the 5-2 win over the Vaqueros. The Broncos used 7 pitchers in the game with Hector Navarro picking up his 2nd save. Felipe Arredondo (2-2) was charged with the loss. Ruben Agramon was 4 for 5 with an RBI, Daniel Hinojosa 2 for 5 with an RBI and DH Frank Diaz homered for the Broncos. Carlos Gonzalez was 1 for 3 with a home run for Laguna.

Jesus Valdez' 2 Home Runs Power Leones Past Campeche

Jesus Valdez supplied the power and Jesus Rodriguez (2-1) pitched 5 innings for the Leones scattering 7 hits, allowing 2 runs and striking out 3 in Yucatan's 8-2 win over the Piratas de Campeche Wednesday night in front of 5,678 fans in Merida.

The Piratas scored a run in the top of the 3rd on a single by Jasson Atondo, a sacrifice bunt by Maxwell Leon and a run scoring double to center by Dave Sappelt.

Jesus Valdez tied the game in inning later when he went deep to left center for the solo home run and a 1-1 score.

Jasson Atondo doubled to lead off the top of the 5th for Campeche and scored as Maxwell Leon singled. The Piratas had a 2-1 lead, but not for long.

The Leones roared back in their half of the 5th inning. Willy Aybar led off with a double and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt. Ricardo Serrano singled to drive in Aybar and went to second on a single by Israel Nunez. After a fly ball for the second out, Ivan Araujo singled to score Serrano and give Yucatan it's first lead of the game, 3-2. Hector Gimenez walked to load the bases with two outs. Jesus Valdez then unloaded a grand slam home run to left that cleared the bases and give the Leones a 7-2 lead.

Yucatan scored their eighth run of the game in the bottom of the 8th inning on a walk to Willy Aybar, a Kevin Flores single and a wild pitch on a walk to Ricardo Serrano that scored Aybar from third for the final 8-2 Leones win.

Francisco Campos (2-4) gave up the grand slam and 6 runs on 7 hits in 4 2/3 innings on the mound for the Piratas in the loss.

Jesus Valdez was 2 for 4 with 2 home runs and 5 RBIs, Ivan Araujo 3 for 4 with an RBI and a run scored and Willy Aybar 2 for 3 with 2 runs scored for the Leones.

Jasson Atondo went 3 for 5 with 2 runs scored and Maxwell Leon and Dave Sappelt drove in the Piratas 2 runs.

Aguascalientes 8, Tijuana 1 (1st Game)
The Rieleros scored 6 runs in the 1st two innings on their way to an 11th straight victory as they beat the Toros 9-1. Leobardo Arauz was 2 for 4 with a home run and 3 RBIs for the Rieleros. Danny Richar had 3 doubles on a 3 for 4 night with 2 RBIs for Aguascalientes. Orlando Lara (4-0) went 6 innings for the win and Barry Enright (0-1) took the loss. CJ Retherford was traded to the Piratas de Campeche prior to the game.

Tijuana 8, Aguascalientes 5 (2nd Game)
Miguel Terrero hit 2 home runs and drove in 4 for the Toros as Tijuana snapped the Rieleros 11 game winning streak with an 8-5 win in the 2nd game of a double header. Maximo Nelson (2-2) had a blown save and took the loss for the Rieleros. Mario Mendoza (1-0) picked up the win in relief and Ramon Ramirez earned his 8th save. Saul Soto hit his league leading 12th home run and drove in his league leading 41st run for the Rieleros.

Mexico 4, Saltillo 4 (Final in 8 innings)
A heavy downpour at the end of the top of the 8th inning caused the game to be called with the score tied at 4. Luis Terrero was 1 for 2 with 2 walks, a home run and 3 RBIs for the Saraperos. Luis Fonseca went 2 for 4 and Sergio Gastelum 2 for 3 for the Diablos Rojos. There was no word on when, or if, the game would be completed.

Monclova 7, Monterrey 4
The Acereros have the current longest winning streak at 5 in a row with the 7-4 win over the Sultanes. Juan Pena (4-1) worked 5 innings, giving up 3 runs in the win and Juan Noriega got his 4th save while Marcos Rivas (1-1) took the loss. Olmo Rosario went 2 for 5 with a home run and 2 RBIs and Travis Garcia 2 for 5 with 3 RBIs for Monclova. Ramon Rios had a home run and an RBI for Monterrey. Derek Bryant was let go as manager of the Sultanes following the game. Antonio Aguilera becomes the interim manager for Monterrey.

Veracruz 4, Oaxaca 2
Tomas Solis (2-2) gave up a run on 5 hits to get the win in the Aguila's 4-2 victory over the Guerreros. Starter Sergio Valenzuela (1-3) was charged with the loss. Issmael Salas went 3 for 4 with an RBI, Tony Abreu 2 for 4 and Greg Golson 1 for 4 with a triple and 2 RBIs for Veracruz. Mario Valenzuela was 3 for 3 and both Tim Torres and Erick Rodriguez drove in runs for Oaxaca.

Laguna 8, Tamaulipas 3
Juan Miranda went 4 for 4 with a home run, 4 RBIs and 4 runs scored as the Vaqueros topped the Broncos 8-3. Joel Vargas (0-3) gave up 5 runs in 5 1/3 innings to take the loss for Tamaulipas. Luis Rodriguez (3-0) got the win. JC Linares was 2 for 5 with 2 runs scored for Laguna. Travis Denker was 2 for 4 with a home run and Rodolfo Amador 3 for 3 in the loss for the Broncos.

Ciudad del Carmen 8, Quintana Roo 5
The Tigres dropped their 5th straight game when they fell to the Delfines 8-5. del Carmen took the lead, and the game, with 4 runs in the 8th. Henry Rodriguez went 3 for 5 with 2 RBIs and 3 runs scored and Gilberto Mejia was 3 for 5 with 2 RBIs for the Delfines. Jesus Espinoza and Jorge Cantu homered for the Tigres in the loss. Roman Rivas (1-0) was the winning pitcher with Josh Lueke getting his 7th save. Jesus Castillo (0-1) had his 4th blown save in the loss.

Puebla 4, Tabasco 1
Hector Galvan (4-1) pitched 7 2.3 innings of 1 run ball and Francisco Cruceta picked up his 1st save in the 4-1 Pericos win over the Olmecas. Amilcar Gaxiola (1-2) suffered the loss. Jon Del Campo, 2 for 4 with 2 RBIs and Brent Clevlen, 2 for 4 with 2 runs scored led the Pericos. Christian Quintero was 3 for 4 and Sergio Burruel drove in the lone run for Tabasco.

Piratas Score 4 In The 10th To Beat Leones 6-2

Eliseo Aldazaba hit a 3-2 pitch over the left field wall, with 2 outs, for a 3 run home run in the top of the 10th inning that stunned the fans at Parque Kukulkan and earn the 6-2 win for the Piratas. The Leones had tied the score in the bottom of the 9th to force the extra innings.

The game was scoreless until the bottom of the 4th. Jose Aguilar singled to lead off the inning and the next batter, Ivan Araujo, was hit by a pitch. Jesus Valdez singled to left center to score Aguilar and the Leones had an early 1-0 lead.

The Piratas tied the game in the top of the 5th. Adan Velazquez singled as did Paul Leon. A 6-4-3 double play ball put Velazquez on third and he scored on a single by Roberto Valencia. Yucatan 1, Campeche 1.

Ruben Mateo singled to lead off the 6th inning for the Piratas, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt and raced home on a fielding error by the Leones third baseman to put Campeche up 2-1.

The score remained 2-1 until the Leones half of the 9th inning. Ivan Araujo and Jesus Valdez singled. After a ground out moved the runners up, Willy Aybar was intentionally walked to load the bases. Ricardo Serrano came through with a sac fly to center that scored Araujo and tied the score and the game was headed for extra innings.

Dave Sappelt got things going for Campeche in the 10th with a one out single. With two outs, Roberto Lopez drew a base on balls. Fernando Flores doubled to score Sappelt and Aldazaba followed with his 3rd home run of the year to put the Piratas up 6-2.

Corey Wimberly reached on a fielding error in the Yucatan half of the inning but was erased on a double play. When Ivan Araujo struck out, the game was over as the Piratas took the first game of a three game series in Merida.

Ricardo Gomez (2-1) was charged with a blown save for giving up the tying run in the 9th but got the win for Campeche. Luis Vazquez (0-1) took the loss for the Leones.

Ivan Araujo went 3 for 4 with a run scored while Jesus Valdez and Ricardo each drove in a run for Yucatan.

Aldazaba was 1 for 4 with the home run and 3 RBIs, Roberto Valencia 2 for 4 with an RBI and Fernando Flores went 1 for 5 with an RBI for Campeche.

The Diablos Rojos scored 4 runs in the 3rd and added 3 more in the 8th on their way to an 8-0 shutout of the Saraperos. Marco Duarte (2-1) worked 5 innings to get the win and Edgmer Escalona (0-1) took the loss. Luis Fonseca had a 3 run home run for Mexico. Hans Wilson went 2 for 4 with 2 RBIs and Carlos Figueroa was 2 for 5 with an RBI.

Monclova 10, Monterrey 5
The Acereros sent 10 men to the plate in the 5th inning and scored 5 runs. They scored 3 more times in the 9th to put away the Sultanes 10-5. Travis Garcia was 2 for 5 with 2 RBIs and 2 runs scored and Hector Garanzuay 1 for 2 with 3 RBIs for Monclova. Edgar Quintero had a home run and 2 RBIs on a 4 for 5 night at the plate for Monterrey. Justin Klipp (1-2) got his 1st win and Ken Sigman (0-1) took the loss.

Veracruz 8, Oaxaca 6
Yancarlo Angulo went 2 for 5 with 3 RBIs for the Guerreros but it wasn't enough to hold off the Aguilas as Veracruz won 8-6. Omar Vazquez (1-1) picked up the win in relief and Jose Pina earned his 2nd save. Misael Valenzuela (0-1) was charged with the loss. Jeremias Pineda was 4 for 5 with a home run, 2 RBIs and 4 runs scored for Veracruz. Greg Golson went 3 for 5 with 3 RBIs.

Tamaulipas 4, Laguna 2
Frank Diaz, the DH for the Broncos, had a double and a home run in 4 trips to the plate as Tamaulipas defeated the Vaqueros 4-2. Diego Madero was 3 for 4 and Angel Berroa had a home run in the 9th for Laguna. Paul Oseguera (2-1) worked 7 strong innings for the win as Esmailin Caridad picked up his 1st save for the Broncos. Salvador Valdez (1-1) took the loss.

Ciudad del Carmen 7, Quintana Roo 5 (11 innings)
Jesus Loya homered in the top of the 11th and Gilberto Mejia scored on a single by Freddy Guzman as the Delfines won their 3rd game in a row and sit atop the Sur Division with a 17-10 record. Carlos Valencia had 2 home runs and 4 RBIs for the Tigres. Alex Valdez was 2 for 4 with a home run and 2 RBIs for del Carmen. Gaudencio Aguirre (1-0) got the win and Adrian Ramirez (0-3) took the loss.

Tabasco 2, Puebla 1
Luis Durango hit a walkoff single to score David Nunez in the bottom of the 9th as the Olmecas topped the Pericos 2-1. Armando Rodriguez (1-0) picked up the win while Marcos Zavala (0-2) was charged with the loss. Durango went 2 for 5 with the game winning hit for Tabasco. Luke Scott was 2 for 4 in a losing effort for Puebla.

Aguascalientes 4, Tijuana 3
Carlos Orrantia doubled with two outs to score Jesus Castillo and Danny Richar to put the Rieleros up 4-3 and give Aguascalientes their 10th straight win. Miguel Olivo was 2 for 4 with a home run in the loss for the Toros. Jesus Castillo was 2 for 4 with an RBI for the Rieleros. Maximo Nelson (2-1) picked up the win in relief and Roy Corcoran recorded his 11th save of the year. Ramon Ramirez (2-2) was charged with a blown save and the loss.

Leones Take 2 of 3 from Monclova with 6-1 Win

Alejandro Astorga (3-1) shut out the Acereros through 6 1/3 innings on 4 hits while striking out 4. Eder Llamas and Anthony Ortega struck out 2 and allowed 3 hits over the last 2 2/3 innings in the Leones 6-1 victory over Monclova. Sasagi Sanchez (1-2) took the loss for the Acereros.

Yucatan scored 5 runs in the bottom of the 5th. Luis Garcia led off with a single and moved to second on a single by Jesus Valdez. Willy Aybar doubled to deep left center to score both Garcia and Valdez. Ricardo Serrano doubled to center to drive in Aybar. Kevin Flores singled moving Serrano to third. Serrano scored on a sac fly by Israel Nunez. Two batters later, Ivan Araujo tripled to center to plate Flores and the Leones led 5-0.

Kevin Flores and Isreal Nunez singled to lead off the 7th inning for Yucatan. After a fly ball out to left, Ivan Araujo drew a walk to load the bases. Following a pitching change by the Acereros, relief pitcher Jose Gallego uncorked a wild pitch to score Flores to increase the Leones lead to 6-0.

Monclova scored in the top of the 9th inning. Olmo Rosario singled with one out and went to third on a double by Jose Ruiz. The Leones reliever, Anthony Ortega, threw a wild pitch that scored Rosario but Travis Garcia struck out to end the game with the score 6-1 Leones.

Willy Aybar was 1 for 4 with a 2 run double, Ivan Araujo 1 for 2 with a run scoring triple, Jesus Valdez 3 for 4 and Kevin Flores 2 for 3 with 2 runs scored for Yucatan.

Jose Ruiz went 2 for 4 for the Acereros who were held to 7 hits and struck out 6 times. Monclova did not score until the top of the 9th.

IN OTHER LMB ACTION:

Oaxaca 7, Mexico 3
The Guerreros built a 7-2 lead over the Diablos after 5 innings. the Diablos scored a run in the bottom of the 9th on a double and a single but it wasn't enough as Oaxaca held on to win 7-3. Alejandro Soto (2-1) went 6 innings for the win and Juan Pablo Oramas (1-1) took the loss.

Saltillo 12, Veracruz 4
The Saraperos scored 4 times in the 1st and 4 more in the 5th to put the game away over the Aguilas 12-4. Luis Borges was 3 for 5 with an RBI, Ramon Orantes 3 for 3 with a home run and 4 RBIs and Carlos Alvarez 3 for 5 with 4 RBIs for Saltillo. Jeremias Pineda went 2 for 3 with a home run, 2 RBIs and 2 runs scored for Veracruz.

Campeche 4, Tamaulipas 1
Up 3-0 after 3 innings the Piratas went on to beat the Broncos 4-1. Jorge Castillo (2-1) picked up the win and Ricardo Gomez recorded his 5th save of the year for Campeche. Jesus Carrillo (0-2) took the loss. DH Ruben Mateo was 3 for 4 with 2 RBIs for the Piratas and Travis Denker went 2 for 4 with a home run for the Broncos.

Aguascalientes 2, Tabasco 1
Jesus Castillo, who went 2 for 4 on the night, homered in the 1st for the Rieleros and a run scoring single by Julian Castro in the 2nd, offset a 5th inning solo home run by the Olmeca's Jose Castaneda to win 2-1. Fredy Quintero (2-0) got the win  and Roy Corcoran his 7th save for the Rieleros. Leo Medrano (1-2) was saddled with the loss.

Ciudad del Carmen 7, Monterrey 4
The Delfines built a 7-1 lead after 6 innings and survived a 3 run rally in the 9th by the Sultanes to beat Monterrey 7-4. Henry Rodriguez was 3 for 4 with 3 RBIs and Carlos Morales 3 for 4 with an RBI for del Carmen. Heber Gomez went 2 for 4 with 2 RBIs for the Sultanes. Sergio Mora (1-2) got the win and Alfredo Aceves (0-1) took the loss.

Puebla 7, Tijuana 3
The Pericos scored 3 times in the 4th to best the Toros 7-3. Jon Del Campos was 2 for 5 with 2 RBIs and Luke Scott 1 for 3 with a 2 run home run and 3 RBIs for Puebla. Roman Pena went 2 for 5 with 2 runs scored and Abel Martinez 2 for 2 with an RBI for Tijuana. Lauro Ramirez (1-1) got the win while Terance Marin (1-2) suffered the loss.

Quintana Roo 11, Laguna 3
5 runs in the 1st was enough for the Tigres to beat the Vaqueros but they didn't stop there on their way to an 11-3 win. Rafael Perez (2-1) was credited with the win while Yeiper Castillo (0-2) was the losing pitcher. The Tigres got 2 home runs and 4 RBIs from Carlos Valencia and a home run with3 RBIs from Jorge Cantu. Santiago Gonzalez went 1 for 3 with 2 RBIs for Laguna.

Vaqueros Score 3 In 10th To Drop Leones 10-7

The Vaqueros de la Laguna scored a run in the 9th on a single by Diego Madero to tie the game and then hit a triple and 3 consecutive doubles to score 3 runs in the 10th as the Vaqueros took the second game of a three game series against the Leones de Yucatan.

Thursday night's contest started out well for the Leones. They scored 4 times in the bottom of the 1st. After Juan Miranda's double plated Sergio Garcia and JC Linares for the 2-0 Vaquero lead, Corey Wimberly doubled to lead off the Leones half of the inning. Hector Gimenez followed with a one out double to center that scored Wimberly. Three batters later, Willy Aybar walked to load the bases. Israel Nunez singled to score Gimenez. Ricardo Serrano then singled to drive in Jesus Valdez and Aybar and Yucatan was on top 4-2.

Laguna took a 5-4 lead in the top of the 3rd. Singles by Sergio Garcia and JC Linares had men on first and third with one out. Juan Miranda singled to score Garcia. Angel Berroa grounded into a fielder's choice that scored Linares and Santiago Gonzalez doubled to the right field corner to plate Berroa for the Vaqueros lead.

After the Vaqueros added another run in the top of the 6th, Willy Aybar hit a double to lead off the bottom of the 6th for Yucatan and went to third on a single by Ricardo Serrano. Corey Wimberly doubled to drive in Gonzalez and Aybar and Ivan Araujo doubled to plate Wimberly for the 7-6 Leones lead.

Laguna tied the game, 7-7, in the 9th on a double by pinch hitter Jose Orozco and a single by Diego Madero, leading to the Vaqueros extra base hitting barrage in the 10th. With one out, Angel Berroa tripled. Following a pitching change for the Leones, Santiago Gonzalez doubled to drive in Berroa. Gilberto Galavis doubled to plate Gonzalez and Eduardo Gonzalez doubled to drive in Galavis as Laguna retook the lead 10-7.

Tony Pena Jr. set the Leones down 1-2-3 in the bottom of the 10th to pick up his 4th save of the year and preserve the win for Vaquero's relief pitcher Johan Yan (1-1). Anthony Ortega (1-1) was charged with his 2nd blown save took the loss for Yucatan.

Corey Wimberly was 2 for 4 with 2 RBIs and 2 runs scored and Ricardo Serrano went 2 for 4 with 2 RBIs in the loss for Yucatan.

9 of the 16 hits for the Vaqueros went for extra bases, eight doubles and one triple. Juan Miranda went 2 for 4 with 3 RBIs, Santiago Gonzalez 2 for 5 with 2 RBIs, JC Linares 3 for 5 with 2 runs scored and Angel Berroa 1 for 5 with a triple and an RBI.

The Diablos got home runs from Japhet Amador and Ruben Rivera on the way to a 6-5 win over the Pericos. Carlos Vazquez (2-0) got the win with Juan Sandoval earning the save. David Dominguez (0-1) was charged with a blown save and took the loss.

Tabasco 9, Saltillo 7
The Olmecas took the lead for good in the 8th inning and held off the Saraperos 9-7 in Saltillo. Luis Durango went 3 for 6 with 3 RBIs for Tabasco. DH Refugio Cervantes was 1 for 4 with a home run and 2 RBIs for the Saraperos. Cesar Valdez (3-0) went 8 innings to pick up the win for the Olmecas while Edwin Salas (0-3) took the loss.

Esmailis Caridad (1-0) got the win in relief for the Aguilas as Victor Marte earned his 3rd save. Julian Arballo (2-2) suffered the loss for the Rieleros. Issmael Salas was 1 for 4 with 2 RBIs for Veracruz while Carlos Orrantia had a home run and 2 RBIs for the Rieleros.

Monclova 8, Quintana Roo 2
The Acereros hit 4 home runs in the game to overpower the Tigres 8-2. Juan Pena (3-0) picked up his third win of the year and Ivan Maldonado (1-1) took the loss. Olmo Rosario went 4 for 4 with a home run, 3 RBIs and 3 Runs scored for Monclova.

Ciudad del Carmen 5, Tamaulipas 0
Demetrio Gutierrez (2-1) and 2 relievers scattered 9 Broncos hits in the 5-0 shutout. Joel Vargas (0-2) took the loss. David Urias went 2 for 4 with an RBI for the Delfines.

Monterrey 6, Campeche 4
The Sultanes had 14 hits, including a pinch hit 2 run home run by Edgar Quintere in the 8th inning to top the Piratas. Roberto Lopez homered for Campeche. Luis Vizcaino (1-0) got the win and Hassan Pena his 4th save of the year. Riardo Gomez (0-1) took the loss.

Oaxaca 11, Tijuana 8
The Guerreros scored 7 times in the 2nd inning and held on to beat the Toros 11-8. Erick Rodriguez was 4 for 5 with 2 RBIs and 2 runs scored for Oaxaca. Tijuana got home runs from Roman Pena and Miguel Olivo in the loss.

Good Pitching Gives Charros The Victory Over Obregon

FINAL SCORE CHARROS 4, YAQUIS 2

Juan Delgadillo got the win for the Charros on Wednesday, going 5 2/3 innings, giving up just 2 runs on 5 hits while striking out 4. Manny Acosta picked up his 2nd save of this postseason for Jalisco. Irwin Delgado took the loss for the Yaquis.

The Charros jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the first on CJ Retherford's solo home run to left off of Yaquis starter Irwin Delgado.

In the 2nd, Jon Weber hit a one out single to right and went to third on a double by Jesus Lopez. Weber scored on a sac fly to left by Ivan Araujo to make the score 2-0 Charros.

Jon Weber drew a two out base on balls in the 4th and went to second on a single to deep short by Jesus Lopez. Weber scored on a single by Ivan Araujo to give the Charros a 3-0 lead after four innings.

The Yaquis fought back in their half of the 6th inning to cut the lead to 3-2. Carlos Valencia singled with two outs and scored in front of a home run by JC Linares.

Jalisco added an insurance run in the top of the 9th on a walk to Israel Nunez, a double by Leo Heras and a sac fly to left by Manny Rodriguez that plated Nunez and gave the Charros the final margin of victory at 4-2.

Charros de Jalisco Drop Final Game With Obregon 6-3

The Yaquis de Obregon won their final meeting of the regular season with the Charros on Christmas Day, winning 6-3 behind the pitching of Jose Pina, who gave up 3 runs on 3 hits over 7 innings. Kenneth Sims took the loss for Jalisco to fall to 1-2 on the year.

Sergio Contreras got things going for Obregon in the bottom of the 2nd, drawing a one out walk. After stealing second, Contreras scored on a single to right by Robert Saucedo. 

The Charros duplicated the Yaquis scoring plan in the top of the 3rd. With two outs, Israel Nunez was hit by a pitch, stole second and scored on an Eduardo Arredondo single to center to tie the score at 1.

Obregon went ahead 2-1 in the 3rd. After loading the bases on a single, a walk and a hit batsman, Esteban Quiroz hit into a 4-6-3 double play that scored Daniel Castro.

Armando Araiza doubled to lead off the 5th for the Yaquis, advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Daniel Castro and scored on a single by Carlos Figueroa to increase the Obregon lead to 3-1.

Donell Linares hit a solo home run to lead off the bottom of the 6th for Obregon and Sergio Contreras scored from third on a double play grounder by Robert Saucedo to make the game 5-1 Yaquis. 

Jalisco scored twice in the top of the 7th. With one out, Gabriel Gutierrez waited out a walk, Amadeo Zazueta singled and Gutierrez scored on a single by Fernando Valenzuela, Ivan Araujo ground into a force out that scored Zazueta and the Charros had cut the lead to 5-3.

The Yaquis scored a run in the bottom of the 8th to reach the final score of 6-3 Obregon.

Despite the loss, the Charros still lead the league with a 40-25 record and 4 games to go in the regular season. Jalisco is 3 games ahead of the Tomateros de Culiacan and 4 1/2 games ahead of the Aguilas de Mexicali. The Charros are 1 game in front of the Tomateros in the second half with a 19-11 record.

Jalisco Takes game 2 of Series With Yaquis, 7-1

Game two of the series with Obregon on Tuesday the 23rd of December went to the Charros by a 7-1 score. Orlando Lara is now 7-3 on the year with the win and Japhet Amador hit his 13th home run of the season.

Manny Rodriguez singled and scored on a single to center by Leo Heras that the Yaquis center fielder mis played and threw away trying to get Rodriguez at home. Heras went to third on the throw. After Japhet Amador walked, CJ Retherford hit a grounder to third that scored Heras for the quick 2-0 Charros lead.

Christian Villanueva hiy a solo home run to left for Obregon in the bottom of the 1st that proved to be the only run the Yaquis would score on the day.

The Charros exploded for 4 runs in the top of the 5th. Ivan Araujo walked to lead off the inning. Amadeo Zazueta struck out but Edson Garcia was hit by a pitch to put two runners on for Jalisco. Manny Rodriguez skyed out to center moving Araujo to third. With Leo Heras up the Charros pulled off a double steal with Araujo swoping home and Garcia taking second. Heras reached when the Yaquis left fielder dropped a fly ball that scored Garcia. Japhet Amador followed with a 2 run shot to center and the Jalisco lead was up to 6-1.

Fernando Valenzuela walked to lead off the 9th for Jalisco and scored on 3 wild pitches by the Obregon reliever, the Charros would win this game 7-1.

Charros Take 2 From Naranjeros 3-2 and 7-0

The Charros de Jalisco have taken the first two games of a three game series with the Naranjeros de Hermosillo by scores of 3-2 and 7-0.

Ivan salas got the win in the 3-2 victory pitching the top of the 9th in relief of Adrian Ramirez who had given up a 2 run home run to Jose Amador that had tied the game at 2 apiece.

Jalisco opened the scoring in the bottom of the 3rd on a sac fly that scored Amadeo Zazueta for the 1-0 lead.

The Charros added a run in the bottom of the 8th when Amadeo Zazueta singled and went to third on an errant pick off attempt. Zazueta scored on a single by Israel Nunez to give the Charros a short lived 2-0 lead.

After Hermisillo had tied the game in the top of the 9th, Edson Garcia, of the Charros hit a walk off single in the bottom of the 9th to score Ivan Araujo with the winning run and the 3-2 victory for the Charros.


Jalisco improved to 35-23 overall and 14-9 in the second half of the Liga Mexicana del Pacifico season with the 7-0 win on Wednesday night. Juan Delgadillo improved to 2-6 on the year with 6 strong innings of 2 hit ball with 3 walks and 4 strikeouts.

The Charros scored two runs in the bottom of the 1st on a sac fly by Leo Heras that scored Eduardo Arredondo and a ground out by Japhet Amador that plated Manny Rodriguez for the 2-0 lead.

Manny Rodriguez singled to right in the 2nd that scored Eduardo Arredondo for a 3-0 Charros lead.

The same tandem scored a run in the 4th as Arredondo, who had singled and moved to second on a balk, scored on a single to left by Rodriguez that upped the lead to 4-0.

Leo Heras led off the 7th for Jalisco with his 8th home run of the year, a solo shot to right for a 5-0 lead. With two outs, CJ Retherford singled to left and IvanAraujo drew a base on balls. Amadeo Zazueta followed with a double that scored Retherford and Araujo for the final two runs and the 7-0 final score.

Yaquis Walkoff Single in 9th Downs Charros 4-3

The Charros de Jalisco played the second game of a three game set on Wednesday in Obregon and lost to the Yaquis 4-3, giving up three runs in the bottom of the 9th.

Jalisco scored their three runs in the top of the second. With one out, Marguez Smith drew a walk. Jesus Cota doubled and Gabriel Gutierrez walked to load the bases. Ivan Araujo hit a sac fly to center that scored Smith and moved the runners to second and third. Jesus Lopez singled to score Cota and Gutierrez for the 3-0 Charros lead.

Obregon scored a run in the bottom of the 3rd to make it a 3-1 ballgame. The score would remain 3-1 until the bottom of the ninth.

Brian Broderick, the Charros closer, started the 9th by giving up singles to Said Gutierrez and Christian Villanueva to put runners at the corners with no outs. Carlos Figueroa hit a ground ball to third that Marquez Smith threw away past first and into right field foul territory. Armando Araiza, pinch runner for Said Gutierrez, and Villanueva scored and Figueroa wound up on third. Albino Contreras then hit a walkoff single to center for the Yaquis comeback win over the Charro.

Charros Defeat Navojoa 8-6

Marco Tovar started for the Charros against the Mayos de Navojoa and went 5 1/3 innings, giving up 5 runs on 7 hits, walking 3 and striking out 5. David Kopp picked up the win as the pitcher of record when Jalisco took the lead in the bottom of the 8th. Kopp pitched 2/3 of an inning. Brian Broderick got his 11th save of the year, pitching a perfect 9th inning. Linder Castro took the loss for the Mayos to fall to 0-2 on the season. Castro gave up 4 runs on 4 hits in the 8th, including a home run to Gabriel Gutierrez.

Navojoa scored a run in the top of the 4th on a solo home run by John Lindsey, his first of the year.

With two outs in the 5th, Jose Chavez singled to center for the Mayos and went to second on a single by Rolando Acosta. Tim Federowicz singled to score Chavez and John Lindsey singled to drive in Acosta for the 3-0 Navojoa lead.

The Charros answered in their half of the 5th. Ivan Araujo singled and went to second on a single to center by Jesus Lopez. Eduardo Arredondo hit into a fielder's choice that scored Araujo and Jalisco was on the board. Manny Rodriguez hit a ground rule double and Leo Heras walked to load the bases. Japhet Amador then cleared the bases on a double to deep left. The Charros had taken a 4-3 lead.

The Mayos wouldn't quit and they retook the lead 5-4 in the top of the 6th. Fernando Flores singled to left. Diego Madero also singled to left. Alejandro Gonzalez singled to score Flores and Rolando Acosta singled to center to plate Madero for the two run inning.

Carlos Orrantia doubled with two outs in the Mayo's half of the 7th. Fernando Flores reached on an infield single to third that advanced Orrantia. Charros reliever, Ivan Salas, uncorked a wild pitch to score Orrantia from third and gave Navojoa a 6-4 lead.

Jalisco put the game away in the bottom of the 8th. With one out, Marquez Smith doubled and scored on a Brendan Harris double to center. Gabriel Gutierrez followed with a 2 run home run to left, his second of the year. Ivan Araujo singled, stole second and came home on a single by Eduardo Arredondo. The Charros had the final margin of victory, 8-6.

Ivan Araujo was 3 for 4 with 2 runs scored. Eduardo Arredondo went 2 for 5 with 2 RBIs and a run scored raising his batting average to .234. Manny Rodriguez got back on track going 2 for 5 with his 13th double of the year and a rub scored. Japhet Amador had a double in 3 at bats with 3 RBIs and a run scored. Gabriel Gutierrez was 1 for 4 with the 2 run home run.

Jalisco is now 19-14 on the year while Navojoa falls to 11-22. The Charros are a full game behind the Yaquis de Obregon for the overall league lead.

Yaquis Take 2nd Game From Charros 8-4

The Yaquis de Obregon took the second game of the three game series with the Charros by an 8-4 score after leading 8-0 entering the bottom of the 9th.

In the top of the 2nd, Carlos Valencia doubled to left and went to third when Donald Lutz grounded out to second. Albino Contreras followed with a single and Valencia scored for the early 1-0 lead for the Yaquis.

Obregon added a run in the top of the 4th on a solo home run by Said Gutierrez for a 2-0 Obregon lead.

The Yaquis scored twice more in the top of the 5th when Donald Lutz homered after Carlos Valencia drew a walk with two outs. 4-0 Yaquis.

With one out in the top of the 6th, Carlos Figueroa singled but was caught stealing second. Jake Smolinski homered to left, the third home run by Obregon on the evening. Obregon up 5-0.

In the top of the 8th, with one out, Albino Contreras doubled to left and after Said Gutierrez struck out, Contreras scored on a single by Carlos Figueroa and the Yaquis had increased their lead to 6-0.

Obregon got a man on in the top of the 9th when Dean Anna was hit by a pitch with two outs. Carlos Valencia followed with a triple to score Anna and Donald Lutz doubled to score Valencia. The Obregon lead looked insurmountable at 8-0.

The Charros put runners on 1st and 2nd with two outs in the bottom of the 9th on singles by Cory Vaughn and Ivan Araujo. Jesus Lopez singled to load the bases. Eduardo Arredondo followed with a single to score Vaughn and Araujo as the Charros avoided their first shutout of the season and cut the lead to 8-2. Manny Rodriguez, 2 for 5 on the night, doubled to left to score Lopez and Arredondo and the Obregon lead was down to 8-4. Leo Heras struck out swinging to end the inning and the game.

The Charros fall to 9-7 on the year while Obregon climbs to 9-6, 1/2 game ahead of Jalisco and tied with the Venados de Mazatlan for the league lead.

Charros Drop Series To Navojoa

The Charros dropped the third game of the 3 game series with the Mayos de Navojoa 5-4 on Thursday night to drop to 6-5 on the year. Jalisco lost the series 2 games to 1.

Jalisco scored in the top of the 1st on a double by Manny Rodriguez and a single by Leo Heras to take the early 1-0 lead.

Navojoa came back in their half of the inning to score three times. Jose Chavez led off with a single against Charros starter Ben Kozlowski. Jon Weber doubled with Chavez stopping at third. Luis Fonseca doubled to score Chavez and Weber. Chris Marrero walked and a wild pitch by Kozlowski on the walk put runners on the corners with no outs. Rolando Acosta grounded into a 5-4-3 double play that scored Fonseca and the Mayos took the lead 3-1.

Cory Vaughn led off the Charros 2nd with a single but Ivan Araujo grounded into a 6-4-3 double play to erase Vaughn. Jose Felix walked and Jesus Lopez singled as Felix moved to third on a throwing error by the Mayos' shortstop. Eduardo Arredondo doubled to score Felix and Lopez and the score was tied at 3.

Navojoa retook the lead in the bottom of the 3rd on a single by Jose Chavez, a ground out by Jon Weber that moved Chavez to second and a single by Luis Fonseca that scored Chavez. Navojoa led 4-3.

In the top of the 6th, Cory Vaughn walked with one out but got picked off first. Ivan Araujo singled and went to second on a single by Jose Felix. Jesus Lopez followed with a single as Araujo scored and the Charros had tied the game again at 4 apiece.

Hugo Castellanos was pitching for the Charros to start the bottom of the 8th. He struck out Reggie Ambercrombie for the first out but gave up back-to-back singles to Eliseo Aldazaba and Diego Madero. Murphy Smith relieved Castellanos and gave up a single to pinch hitter Fernando Flores that scored Aldazaba with what would prove to be the winning run.

The Charros got 12 hits on the night. Japhet Amador was 2 for 5. Manny Rodriguez was 2 for 4 with a double and a run scored. Jesus Lopez was also 2 for 4 with an RBI and a run scored. Leo Heras went 1 for 5 with an RBI and Eduardo Arredondo was 1 for 5 with a double and 2 RBIs.

Ben Kozlowski lasted 5 innings but gave up 4 earned runs on 7 hits while striking out 1 and walking 3. He saw his ERA climb to 4.02 on the year. Hugo Castellanos took the loss, his first of the year, and his ERA shot up to 12.27 for the season.

Hugo Gutierrez got the win for the Mayos and Gene Escat picked up his 2nd save of the year.
