Culiacan Weathers a 2 Run 9th Tops Mexicali 3-2

TOMATEROS PITCHERS HAD 2 HIT SHUTOUT THROUGH 8 INNINGS

Culiacan scratched out 2 runs in the top of the 6th inning to take a 3-0 lead that would prove to be enough to defeat the Aguilas 3-2.

Roemon Fields led off the inning by drawing a walk. Rico Noel was hit by a pitch. A sacrifice bunt by Henry Ramos moved the runners to second and third. Ryan McBroom walked to load the bases with 1 out. A Dylan Moore single to left scored Fields and Noel for the 3-0 lead.

The Aguilas made a game of it in the bottom of the 9th. Juan Perez drew a lead off walk and promptly stole second. A ground out moved Perez to third. David Harris doubled to score Perez and CJ Retherford followed with a single to plate Harris for the second run of the inning. Retherford was thrown out trying to stretch the single into a double. This proved critical because Ricky Alvarez then singled and Xorge Carrillo walked to put runners at first and second with 2 outs instead of bases loaded with 1 out. Pinch hitter, Chuck Taylor struck out to end the game with the Tomateros the 3-2 winners.

James Russell (1-1) picked up the win and Sasagi Sanchez earned the save despite the drama that was the bottom of the 9th. Sergio Mitre (1-1) took the loss for the Aguilas.

Charros Power Past Naranjeros 6-4

The Charros scored 6 runs on 11 hits, including home runs by Manny Rodriguez and Japhet Amador, to beat the Naranjeros de Hermosillo 6-4 on Tuesday night in front of 9,527 hometown fans.

Bruce Kern (2-2) was the winning pitcher, allowing 2 runs on 6 hits while striking out 4 in 5 1/3 innings of work. While pitching effectively, Kern had a down side to his effort. He allowed 3 walks on the night and 2 of those free passes turned into runs for Hermosillo. Aaron Kurcz came in with 2 outs in the 8th inning, got the last out and pitched the 9th to notch his 6th save of the year.

Tim Melville (0-2) gave up 5 runs on 6 hits with 4 strikeouts over 4 2/3 innings on the mound. Melville did not receive good run support as the Naranjeros were 4 for 17 with runners in scoring position.

Hermosillo opened the scoring in the top of the 3rd. Eric Young Jr. and Efren Navarro both walked. Jose Amador singled to score Young. With 1 out, Roberto Ramos singled to drive in Navarro to give the Naranjeros the early 2-0 lead. Cacao Valdez singled to lead off the bottom of the 3rd for the Charros and went to third on a double by Art Charles. Jonathan Aceves ground out to first as Valdez scored. Carlos Figueroa walked and Amadeo Zazueta followed with a single to drive in Charles. A single by Manny Rodriguez scored Figueroa and the Charros had taken the lead 3-2.

The Charros added 2 runs in the bottom of the 5th on a 2 out solo home run to left by Rodriguez followed by 3 consecutive singles that drove in a run to give the Charros a 5-2 lead.

The Naranjeros scored a run in the 7th inning to make it a 5-3 ball game but Japhet Amador hit a rocket of a line drive to right center for a home run and the 6-3 Charros lead.

Arturo Rodriguez drew yet another lead off walk in the top of the 8th and went to third on a single by Matt Skole. Rodriguez scored on a double play ball that made it 6-4.

2 games remaining with the Naranjeros before traveling to Navojoa to take on the Mayos for 3 games beginning on the 4th of November. The Charros will return to Guadalajara to face the Aguilas de Mexicali on the 8th of November.

Obregon 8, Navojoa 3

Arturo Lopez (3-0) struck out 7, walked 4 and gave up 2 hits while shutting out the Mayos over 6 innings in the Yaquis 8-3 win over the Mayos. Zack Dodson (0-2) allowed 7 runs on 9 hits in 4 innings on the mound to take the loss. Joey Wendle was 3 for 4 with 2 runs scored and Olmo Rosario 2 for 4 with an RBI and a run scored while Leo Heras went 1 for 3 with a triple, an RBI and a run scored for Obregon. Cole Garner was 1 for 4 with a home run and 2 RBIs for Navojoa.

Mexicali 4, Los Mochis 3

CJ Retherford homered in the 8th and Adan Munoz hit a solo shot in the 9th as the Aguilas de Mexicali topped the Caneros 4-3. The Aguilas improved to 11-7 on the year while the Caneros fell to 10-8. Dave Sappelt went 3 for 4 and Yordanys Linares 2 for 5 for Mexicali. Isaac Rodriguez was 2 for 5 with a double and a run scored. Leandro Castro was also 2 for 5 for Los Mochis. Fautino De Los Santos (1-0) was charged with a blown save yet got the win and Jake Sanchez earned his 6th save. Thomas Melgarejo (0-2) took the loss.

Culiacan 10, Mazatlán 3

The Venados fell to 5-13 on the year in the 10-3 loss to the Tomateros. Ronnier Mustelier, Marco Guzman and Joey Meneses all homered for Culiacan in the win. Corey Brown hit a home run for Mazatlán. Aaron Thompson (2-0) got the win for the Tomateros while Sasagi Sanchez (0-1) took the loss for the Venados. Mustelier was 2 for 3 with 2 RBIs and 3 runs scored and Oscar Robles 1 for 3 with 2 RBIs for Culiacan while Corey Brown went 4 for 4 with the home run and 2 RBIs and Brian Hernandez 3 for 3 with a double and a run scored for Mazatlán.

Leones Take 2 of 3 from Monclova with 6-1 Win

Alejandro Astorga (3-1) shut out the Acereros through 6 1/3 innings on 4 hits while striking out 4. Eder Llamas and Anthony Ortega struck out 2 and allowed 3 hits over the last 2 2/3 innings in the Leones 6-1 victory over Monclova. Sasagi Sanchez (1-2) took the loss for the Acereros.

Yucatan scored 5 runs in the bottom of the 5th. Luis Garcia led off with a single and moved to second on a single by Jesus Valdez. Willy Aybar doubled to deep left center to score both Garcia and Valdez. Ricardo Serrano doubled to center to drive in Aybar. Kevin Flores singled moving Serrano to third. Serrano scored on a sac fly by Israel Nunez. Two batters later, Ivan Araujo tripled to center to plate Flores and the Leones led 5-0.

Kevin Flores and Isreal Nunez singled to lead off the 7th inning for Yucatan. After a fly ball out to left, Ivan Araujo drew a walk to load the bases. Following a pitching change by the Acereros, relief pitcher Jose Gallego uncorked a wild pitch to score Flores to increase the Leones lead to 6-0.

Monclova scored in the top of the 9th inning. Olmo Rosario singled with one out and went to third on a double by Jose Ruiz. The Leones reliever, Anthony Ortega, threw a wild pitch that scored Rosario but Travis Garcia struck out to end the game with the score 6-1 Leones.

Willy Aybar was 1 for 4 with a 2 run double, Ivan Araujo 1 for 2 with a run scoring triple, Jesus Valdez 3 for 4 and Kevin Flores 2 for 3 with 2 runs scored for Yucatan.

Jose Ruiz went 2 for 4 for the Acereros who were held to 7 hits and struck out 6 times. Monclova did not score until the top of the 9th.

Oaxaca 7, Mexico 3
The Guerreros built a 7-2 lead over the Diablos after 5 innings. the Diablos scored a run in the bottom of the 9th on a double and a single but it wasn't enough as Oaxaca held on to win 7-3. Alejandro Soto (2-1) went 6 innings for the win and Juan Pablo Oramas (1-1) took the loss.

Saltillo 12, Veracruz 4
The Saraperos scored 4 times in the 1st and 4 more in the 5th to put the game away over the Aguilas 12-4. Luis Borges was 3 for 5 with an RBI, Ramon Orantes 3 for 3 with a home run and 4 RBIs and Carlos Alvarez 3 for 5 with 4 RBIs for Saltillo. Jeremias Pineda went 2 for 3 with a home run, 2 RBIs and 2 runs scored for Veracruz.

Campeche 4, Tamaulipas 1
Up 3-0 after 3 innings the Piratas went on to beat the Broncos 4-1. Jorge Castillo (2-1) picked up the win and Ricardo Gomez recorded his 5th save of the year for Campeche. Jesus Carrillo (0-2) took the loss. DH Ruben Mateo was 3 for 4 with 2 RBIs for the Piratas and Travis Denker went 2 for 4 with a home run for the Broncos.

Aguascalientes 2, Tabasco 1
Jesus Castillo, who went 2 for 4 on the night, homered in the 1st for the Rieleros and a run scoring single by Julian Castro in the 2nd, offset a 5th inning solo home run by the Olmeca's Jose Castaneda to win 2-1. Fredy Quintero (2-0) got the win  and Roy Corcoran his 7th save for the Rieleros. Leo Medrano (1-2) was saddled with the loss.

Ciudad del Carmen 7, Monterrey 4
The Delfines built a 7-1 lead after 6 innings and survived a 3 run rally in the 9th by the Sultanes to beat Monterrey 7-4. Henry Rodriguez was 3 for 4 with 3 RBIs and Carlos Morales 3 for 4 with an RBI for del Carmen. Heber Gomez went 2 for 4 with 2 RBIs for the Sultanes. Sergio Mora (1-2) got the win and Alfredo Aceves (0-1) took the loss.

Puebla 7, Tijuana 3
The Pericos scored 3 times in the 4th to best the Toros 7-3. Jon Del Campos was 2 for 5 with 2 RBIs and Luke Scott 1 for 3 with a 2 run home run and 3 RBIs for Puebla. Roman Pena went 2 for 5 with 2 runs scored and Abel Martinez 2 for 2 with an RBI for Tijuana. Lauro Ramirez (1-1) got the win while Terance Marin (1-2) suffered the loss.

Quintana Roo 11, Laguna 3
5 runs in the 1st was enough for the Tigres to beat the Vaqueros but they didn't stop there on their way to an 11-3 win. Rafael Perez (2-1) was credited with the win while Yeiper Castillo (0-2) was the losing pitcher. The Tigres got 2 home runs and 4 RBIs from Carlos Valencia and a home run with3 RBIs from Jorge Cantu. Santiago Gonzalez went 1 for 3 with 2 RBIs for Laguna.

Saltillo Falls To Monclova 10-6

The Saraperos de Saltillo squandered an early 6-2 lead and fell to the Acereros del Norte Monclova 10-6 in front of 4,209 fans at Parque Francisco I. Madero on Monday night.

Justin Greene, leading off for Saltillo in the bottom of the 1st inning, doubled to left and scored on a single by Jose Lopez. After an error and a walk loaded the bases, a sac fly to left scored Lopez and the Saraperos took a 2-0 lead.

Monclova answered with 2 runs of their own in the top of the 2nd. Jose Ruiz was hit by a pitch to start the inning and moved to second on a wild pitch by Saltillos starting pitcher, Fernando Perez-Abreu. Ruiz scored on a single by Jose Amador. Antonio Lamas doubled to center to plate Amador and the score was tied at 2.

With one gone in the bottom of the 2nd, Luis Borges singled. Justin Greene walked and Jose Lopez singled to drive in Borges. Manny Rodriguez singled to drive in Greene and the Saraperos lead was 4-2.

Justin Greene walked to lead off the 4th inning for Saltillo and scored when Manny Rodriguez homered to left center to up the Saraperos lead to 6-2.

The Acereros began chipping away at the Saltillo lead in the top of the 6th. Jose Amador led off the inning with a solo home run to center. One out, and a pitching change later, Antonio Lamas doubled and went to third on a ground out. Lamas scored on a wild pitch by Saltillo reliever Jorge Ibarra. The Sarapero lead was down to 6-4.

Back-to-back singles put runners on first and second with no outs for Monclova in the top of the 7th. A double play put Hector Garanzuay on third and Abraham Ramos drove him in with a single. The Saltillo lead was now to 6-5.

Jesus Arredondo singled to lead off the 8th inning for the Acereros. One out later, James Simmons drew a 4 pitch base on balls. Arredondo advanced on a fly ball out and scored on a single by Olmo Rosario. The big blow of the inning came next as Jose Ruiz drilled a home run to right that scored Simmons and Rosario. Monclova had their first lead of the night, 9-6.

A double by Jesus Arredondo, with two outs, started the 9th inning for Monclova. Arredondo scored on a single by Daniel Sanchez for the final 10-6 margin of victory for the Acereros.

Monclova used seven pitchers in the game with reliever Sasagi Sanchez earning the win. Satillo sent six hurlers to the mound on the night with Luis Ramirez charged with a blown save and the loss, giving up 3 runs on 2 hits, including the home run to Ruiz, in 2/3 of an inning.

Jose Ruiz was 1 for 4 with a home run and 3 RBIs for the Acereros while Olmo Rosario went 3 for 5 with an RBI. Hector Garanzuay was also 3 for 5 with a run scored. The Monclova DH, Jose Amador, went 2 for 4 with 2 RBIs and 2 runs scored. Antonio Lamas was 3 for 4 and Jesus Arredondo 3 for 5 in the 18 hit attack by Monclova.

Manny Rodriguez went 2 for 5 with a home run and 3 RBIs for Saltillo. Jose Lopez was 2 for 4 with 2 RBIs and a run scored. Ramos Orantes went 2 for 4 with an RBI and lead off man Justin Greene was 2 for 3 with 2 walks and 3 runs scored.
