Mayos de Navojoa Shutout Tomateros 7-0

JESUS CASTILLO 3 for 5 IN ROMP

The reigning champions of the Liga Mexicana del Pacifico, the Tomateros de Culiacan, fell to 3-12 on the season with a 7-0 shutout at the hands of the Mayos de Navojoa in front of 16,800 hometown fans.

The game was scoreless through 6 innings of play until Navojoa loaded the bases with no outs in the top of the 7th inning on a fielding error, a hit batter and a single by Jesus Castillo. Pinch hitter Victor Mendoza reached base on an error by the shortstop that scored Lance Zadwadski and Eliseo Aldazaba to give the Mayos a 2-0 lead.
Mayos Score the 1st of 7 Runs in Win Over Tomateros

In the top of the 8th inning, Zadwadski hit a solo home run to increase the lead to 3-0. Aldazaba followed with a one out walk and scored when Jesus Castillo hit a 2-2 pitch over the wall in right center for a 5-0 Mayos lead.

Quincy Latimore drew a one out walk in the top of the 9th inning and scored in front of a home run by Aldazaba for the final 7-0 score.

Jorge Castillo (1-1) held the Tomateros scoreless through 6 1/3 innings on 4 hits while striking out 3. Juan Robles pitched the last 2 1/3 innings to pick up a save because he "entered the game with a less than a 3 run lead and pitched at least one inning". A quote from MLB rules on saves. Even though the final score was 7-0, it was only 2-0 when Robles entered the game, thus the save.

Jose Meraz (0-1) was charged with the loss in relief for the Tomateros.

Lance Zadwadski was 1 for 5 with the home run and 3 runs scored, Eliseo Aldazaba 1 for 3 with a home run, 2 RBIs and 3 runs scored and Jesus Castillo 3 for 5 with a home run and 2 RBIs for the Mayos as the Mayos improved to 9-6 on the year.
