Hermosillo 6-2 Winners Over Los Mochis

CANEROS GET 13 HITS BUT 0 FOR 10 WITH RUNNERS IN SCORING POSITION

Francisco Peguero was 3 for 5 with a double and a home run with Luis Jimenez and Cedric Hunter both 2 for 4  in the Naranjeros win over the Caneros. Los Mochis outhit Hermosillo 13-12 but couldn't get timely hitting as they went 2 for 10 with runners in scoring position.

The Naranjeros scored in 5 of the first 6 innings to take a 6-0 lead into the bottom of the 6th.

A single and a double put runners on second and third for Los Mochis in their half of the 6th. Saul Soto singled to drive in Leandro Castro. After a pitching change, Jesus Arredondo drew a base on balls. Everth Cabrera singled to plate Jay Gonzalez and cut the lead to 6-2 but the Caneros were unable to score again and Hermosillo had the 6-2 win.

Estadio Emilio Ibarra Almada had a crowd of 5,942 fans who had come to witness the game. They went home disappointed with the outcome.

Hermosillo Shuts Down Mexicali 4-0

AGUILAS HELD TO 2 HITS IN THE LOSS

Jorge Castillo (1-1) held the Aguilas scoreless on 1 hit over 6 innings, walking 2 and striking out 3 in getting the win as Hermosillo improved to 6-0 on the season. Only CJ Retherford (single) and Colin Walsh (double) were able to get hits off of the Naranjeros pitching staff. David Reyes (0-1) took the loss for the 7-7 Aguilas.

Mexicali got a runner as far as second base twice in the game and went 0 for 4 with runners in scoring position.

Hermosillo scored in the 1st on a single by Francisco Peguero that drove in Cedric Hunter and a solo home run by Peguero in the 6th to give the Naranjeros a 2-0 lead.

A fielding error by the Aguilas second baseman allowed Jasson Atondo to score in the bottom of the 7th and a sac fly to right by Peguero scored Eric Young Jr. with the 4th run of the game and when reliever Marcelo Martinez struck out the Aguilas in order in the top of the 9th, Hermosillo had the 4-0 win.

Peguero was 2 for 3 with the home run, 3 RBIs and a run scored for Hermosillo while team mates Jasson Atondo, Danny Espinosa and Young were all 2 for 4 on the night.

Mazatlan 5, Hermosillo 4

EARLY SEASON WOES CONTINUE AS HERMOSILLO DROPS TO 1-6

The Venados improved to 5-2 on the young season and the Naranjeros fell to 1-6 with the 5-4 loss. The LMP season is divided into to parts with approximately 32 games per half. losing 6 games this early in the season gives the Naranjeros a tough row to hoe for the first half season of play.

Mazatlan scored 3 runs in the 5th, two on a home run by Quincy Latimore to take a 4-0 lead after five. Latimore was 3 for 4 on the night with 2 RBIs and 2 runs scored.

Hermosillo got back 3 runs in their half of the 6th inning. Roberto Ramos started the inning by drawing a walk. Sergio Burruel singled with Ramos stopping at second. A double by Eric Young Jr. scored Ramos and put runners at second and third with no outs. After a pitching change and a fly ball out, Danny Espinosa singled to drive in Burruel and Young to get the Naranjeros to within a run at 4-3.

Hermosillo tied the game at 4 in the 7th when Jasson Atondo scored from third as Young was caught in a rundown between first and second following a pick off attempt.

Mazatlan scored what turned out to be the winning run in the top of the 8th on a single by Latimore, a sacrifice bunt by Edson Garcia and a single by Assael Sanchez that scored Latimore.

Roman Pena (1-0) picked up the win in relief with Evan Marshall earning his 3rd save of the young season. Jorge Castillo (0-1) was charged with the loss.

Leones Duran Mas Piratas 6-5

4 CARRERA PRIMERA ENTRADA MOSCAS GANAN

El Leones de Yucatán usa un paseo, 4 sencillos y un doble por regla en la parte superior de la 1ª entrada para anotar 4 carreras y saltar en frente de un equipo Piratas de Campeche que se negó a darse por vencido. Campeche marcó su camino de vuelta a dentro de un plazo, pero el rally corto y los Leones tomar unas 3 juegos a 2 plomo de regreso a Mérida para el partido del martes 6 al 23 de agosto.

Campeche anotó 2 de sus propias carreras en la parte baja de la entrada en un cuadrangular solitario por Engel Beltré, un doble por CJ Retherford y un sencillo de José Amador para poner el marcador 4-2.

Cada equipo anotó una carrera en el segundo. Yucatán anotó con un elevado de sacrificio de Luis García y los Piratas consiguió un cuadrangular solitario de Yosmany Guerra.

Los únicos errores cometidos por Campeche se produjo en la parte superior de la 4ª. Diego Madero llegó en un error por el campo corto Piratas y fue al segundo en un intento fallido falta de emulsión . Madero puntuaría con un sencillo de José Aguilar. Que se ejecutan demostró ser crucial en la Victoria.

CJ Retherford tuvo la oportunidad de dar a los Piratas una ventaja en la parte inferior de la 6ª . Campeche había anotado una carrera en 3 sencillos y después de una sola de Guerra llenó las bases, Retherford enviado un campo opuesto a largo volar bola a la derecha que fue capturado en la valla por el jardinero derecho. Dos pies hacen la diferencia entre un grand slam y un fly de sacrificio . El marcador era 6-5 Leones.

Los relevistas de Yucatán hicieron el resto, el cierre de la infracción Campeche el 1 hit en los últimos 3 2/3 entradas.

Los Leones tomar un 3 juegos a 2 en la División Sur de la Liga Mexicana de Béisbol.

José Aguilar y Kevin Flores eran 2 a 5 para los Leones  Yosmany Guerra fue 3 a 5 con una carrera de casa , Retherford 2 por 4 y José Amador 2 de 3 para los Piratas.

Yoanner Negrín recogió su segunda victoria de los playoffs y Pedro Rodríguez consiguió la excepción de Yucatán. Jorge Castillo sufrió la pérdida de Campeche.

Cesar Carrillo y 4 relevistas blanqueada de los Vaqueros en 5 golpes. Wirfin Obispo logró su 1er parada de los playoffs. Salvador Valdez lanzó bien pero se cargó con 2 carreras limpias en la toma de la pérdida. Los Sultanes tiene sencillos productores de Ramón Ríos y Alex Valdez para anotar sus carreras.


Leones Outlast Piratas 6-5

4 RUN 1ST INNING SPARKS WIN

The Leones de Yucatan used a walk, 4 singles and a ground rule double in the top of the 1st inning to score 4 runs and jump out in front of a Piratas de Campeche team that refused to give up. Campeche clawed their way back to within a run but the rally short and the Leones take a 3 games to 2 lead back to Merida for game 6 on Tuesday the 23rd of August.

Campeche scored 2 of their own runs in the bottom half of the inning on a solo home run by Engel Beltre, a double by CJ Retherford and a single by Jose Amador to make the score 4-2.

Each team scored a run in the 2nd. Yucatan scored on a sac fly by Luis Garcia and the Piratas got a solo shot from Yosmany Guerra.

The only mistakes made by Campeche came in the top of the 4th. Diego Madero reached on an error by the Piratas shortstop and went to second on a botched pickoff attempt. Madero would score on a single by Jose Aguilar. That run proved crucial in the win.

CJ Retherford had a chance  to give the Piratas a lead in the bottom of the 6th. Campeche had scored a run on 3 singles and after Guerra's single loaded the bases, Retherford sent a long opposite field fly ball to right that was caught at the fence  by the right fielder. Two feet made the difference between a grand slam and a sac fly. The score was 6-5 Leones.

The Yucatan relief pitchers did the rest, shutting down the Campeche offense on 1 hit over the final 3 2/3 innings.

The Leones take a 3 games to 2 in the South Division of the Liga Mexicana de Beisbol.

Jose Aguilar and Kevin Flores were both 2 for 5 for the Leones. Yosmany Guerra went 3 for 5 with a home run, Retherford 2 for 4 and Jose Amador 2 for 3 for the Piratas.

Yoanner Negrin picked up his 2nd win of the playoffs and Pedro Rodriguez got the save for Yucatan. Jorge Castillo suffered the loss for Campeche.

Mexicali Overwhelms Mayos 10-1

4 RUN 1ST INNING PORTENDS OF THINGS TO COME

The Aguilas de Mexicali batted around in the bottom of the 1st inning, sending 9 men to the plate and scoring 4 runs on 4 hits with 2 walks thrown in for good measure. All the runs were scored with 2 outs as the Mayos de Navojoa faced the offensive juggernaut that was awakened in the late innings of game 1.

CJ Retherford's double to deep center field was the big blow of the inning, driving in Luis Juarez and Yuniesky Betancourt for a quick 2-0 lead. After a walk to Wellington Dotel on a wild pitch, Retherford scored on a single by Ricky Alvarez with Dotel moving to third. Dotel scored on a single to center by Xorge Carrillo and the Aguilas led 4-0.

Carrillo led off the bottom of the 4th with a double and scored one out later on a single to right by Chris Roberson. After Walter Ibarra flew out to center, Luis Juarez singled to score Roberson. Betancourt singled to put runners on first and second. Retherford walked to load the bases. Dotel singled to left to score Juarez and Betancourt and Mexicali had an 8-0 lead after 4 innings.

Daniel Rodriguez, the Aguilas starter, held the Mayos hitless through 4 innings but lost the no hitter and the shutout when Jose Amador hit a 2-2 fastball over the wall in left center for a solo home run that cut the Mexicali lead to 8-1. Rodriguez picked up the win, giving up the one run on 1 hit while walking 1 and striking out 7 over 6 innings of work.

Jorge Castillo, the Mayos starter, lasted just 2/3 of an inning allowing 4 runs on 4 hits with 2 walks in being charged with the loss.

The Aguilas scored single runs in the 5th and 6th to put the game away with the final score of 10-1.

Luis Juarez was 2 for 4 on the night with an RBI and 2 runs scored. Betancourt, 2 for 4 with an RBI and 3 runs scored. CJ Retherford went 1 for 3 with the 2 run double, Dotel 1 for 2 with 2 RBIs and 2 walks and Xorge Carrillo was 2 for 3 with an RBI and 2 runs scored for the Aguilas.

Nate Tenbrink, Genaro Andrade and Quincy Latimore were all 1 for 3 for Navojoa. Jose Amador went 1 for 4 with the home run.

The Aguilas, counting the sweep of the Charros in round 1, are 6-0 in the playoffs. Game 3 will be played on Wednesday in Navojoa with Mexicali staked to a 2 games to none lead in the semifinal round. The winner of this series will face the winner of the Yaquis/Venados series for the LMP Championship.

Mayos de Navojoa Shutout Tomateros 7-0

JESUS CASTILLO 3 for 5 IN ROMP

The reigning champions of the Liga Mexicana del Pacifico, the Tomateros de Culiacan, fell to 3-12 on the season with a 7-0 shutout at the hands of the Mayos de Navojoa in front of 16,800 hometown fans.

The game was scoreless through 6 innings of play until Navojoa loaded the bases with no outs in the top of the 7th inning on a fielding error, a hit batter and a single by Jesus Castillo. Pinch hitter Victor Mendoza reached base on an error by the shortstop that scored Lance Zadwadski and Eliseo Aldazaba to give the Mayos a 2-0 lead.

In the top of the 8th inning, Zadwadski hit a solo home run to increase the lead to 3-0. Aldazaba followed with a one out walk and scored when Jesus Castillo hit a 2-2 pitch over the wall in right center for a 5-0 Mayos lead.

Quincy Latimore drew a one out walk in the top of the 9th inning and scored in front of a home run by Aldazaba for the final 7-0 score.

Jorge Castillo (1-1) held the Tomateros scoreless through 6 1/3 innings on 4 hits while striking out 3. Juan Robles pitched the last 2 1/3 innings to pick up a save because he "entered the game with a less than a 3 run lead and pitched at least one inning". A quote from MLB rules on saves. Even though the final score was 7-0, it was only 2-0 when Robles entered the game, thus the save.

Jose Meraz (0-1) was charged with the loss in relief for the Tomateros.

Lance Zadwadski was 1 for 5 with the home run and 3 runs scored, Eliseo Aldazaba 1 for 3 with a home run, 2 RBIs and 3 runs scored and Jesus Castillo 3 for 5 with a home run and 2 RBIs for the Mayos as the Mayos improved to 9-6 on the year.

Los Mochis Sweeps Series With Culiacan; Venados and Aguilas Also Win

The Caneros de Los Mochis traveled to Culiacan for 3 games with the Tomateros and came away with a sweep. The tone for the series was set on Tuesday when Culiacan blew a 5-2 lead in the top of the 9th and gave up a 3 run home run in the 10th to lose 8-5.

On Thursday, the Caneros jumped on Culiacan starter Salvador Valdez (1-1) for 4 runs in the 1st inning and never looked back on their way to a 7-2 win. Valdez gave up 5 runs on 11 hits in the first two innings to take the loss. Derek Miramontes (1-0) held the Tomateros to 2 runs on 6 hits through 5 2/3 innings to get the win for Los Mochis.

Los Mochis used 5 singles, a ground out and a hit batter to score their 4 runs in the 1st. The big hit of the inning was a bases loaded single by Sergio Garcia that scored Emmanuel Avila and Yoan Pedroso.

Garcia was 2 for 3 on the night for the Caneros with a walk and 2 RBIs an Roldolfo Amador was 1 for 3 with 2 RBIs.

Oscar Robles went 1 for 3 with an RBI in the losing effort and Cesar Tapia drove in the other run for the Tomateros going 1 for 4 at the plate.

The Tomateros committed 3 errors in the game.

IN OTHER LMP ACTION

Mazatlán 4, Navojoa 2

The Venados scored twice in the top of the 1st inning to beat the to best the hometown Mayos de Navojoa 4-2 and improve their season record to 2-3. The Mayos dropped to 2-3. Esteban Quiroz went 2 for 3 with 2 walks, an RBI and a run scored for Mazatlán and DH Albino Contreras was 2 for 4 with a double and 2 RBIs. Eliseo Aldazaba was 2 for 5 with an RBI and Quincy Latimore 2 for 5 with a run scored for Navojoa. Jesus Sanchez (1-0) worked 2 innings in relief to get the win and Steven Hensley picked up his 2nd save. Jorge Castillo (0-1) suffered the loss for the Mayos.

Mexicali 5, Ciudad de Obregon 1

Efren Delgado (1-0) pitched 5 innings of 3 hit ball, giving up 1 run and striking out 5 to get the win for the Aguilas. Martin Sotelo (0-1) gave up 3 runs on 4 hits over 4 2/3 innings on the mound to take the loss.  Gil Velazquez was 1 for 2with a walk, an RBI and 2 runs scored for Mexicali and catched Xorge Carrillo 2 for 3 with an RBI. Said Gutierrez went 1 for 3 with a home run for the Yaquis. Obregon was held to just 4 hits on the night. The Aguilas took 2 of 3 against the Yaquis. 11,402 fans were there to root the home team to victory.

Luis Garcia Powers Leones To 4-0 Win Over Piratas

Luis Garcia was the hero of the game against the Piratas, hitting a 3 run home run in the bottom of the 8th for the Leones as Yucatan evened the best of seven Zona Sur divisional playoffs at 3 games apiece and forcing a deciding seventh game, in Merida, on Wednesday the 26th of August.

Marco Quevedo got the win, pitching 7 innings, scattering 8 hits and striking out 5 for the Leones. Jorge Castillo pitched well, giving up just 1 run on 5 hits in 5 1/3 innings on the mound to take the loss for the Piratas.

Kevin Flores got things going for the Leones in the bottom of the 5th inning with a lead off triple. Israel Nunez hit a long sac fly to center to score Flores and the Leones grabbed a 1-0 lead.

Jose Aguilar led off the bottom of the 8th for the Leones with a single and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Ricardo Serrano. Jesus Valdez, the regular season leader in batting average at .363, was intentionally walked by the Piratas reliever Ivan Salas. Hector Gimenez flew out to right but the DH for Yucatan, Luis Garcia, hit a frozen rope over the wall in left for a 3 run home run and the 4-0 Leones lead.

The Piratas had chances to score in the 6th, with men on 1st and 2nd, aided by a throwing error by Quevedo, and 7th inning with runners on 2nd and 3rd and 2 outs but could not score as Quevedo (8 hits, 0 runs and 5 strikeouts in 7 innings) pitched out of the jams both times to keep the shut out in place.

Garcia was 1 for 3 with the home run and 3 RBIs for the Leones while Carlos Colmenares went 3 for 4 for the Piratas.

The Diablos scored 3 times in the bottom of the 1st and added 7 runs in the 4th on their way to  14-1 thrashing of the Toros de Tijuana. Mexico evened the Zona Norte divisional playoffs at 3 games apiece with the win.

Mexico pounded out 17 hits, including a double and a home run by Cyle Hankerd (his third home run and 11th RBI of the series). Ivan Terrazas has driven in 10 runs for the Diablos this post season.

Juan Pablo Oramas worked 7 full innings, scattering 4 Toros hits and giving up 1 run while striking out 6. Oramas' only mistake of the game was a lead off home run to Miguel Olivo in the 7th inning.

Logan Duran lasted 2 1/3 innings and was touched for 4 runs on 5 hits while striking out 2 in the loss for Tijuana.

Second baseman, Carlos Valencia, was 2 for 4 for the Toros and Miguel Olivo 1 for 3 with the home run for Tijuana.

Hankerd and Terrazas were a combined 5 for 9 with 8 RBIs and 3 runs scored for the Diablos. Ramon Urias was 2 for 4 with a home run, 2 RBIs and 2 runs scored and Luis Flores went 2 for 4 with an RBI for Mexico.

The 7th game will be played tonight, in Mexico City, with the winner to face either Monclova or Saltillo in the Zona Norte divisional finals set to begin on Friday the 28th of August.

The Saraperos used 2 walks and 5 singles to chase the Acereros starter, Jose Oyervides, with 6 runs in the 1st inning. Oyervides lasted just 1/3 of an inning, his shortest stint of the year, with the lone out coming on a sacrifice bunt by Luis Borges.

With the win, the Saraperos even the Zona Norte divisional series at 3 all and force a game 7 tonight in Monclova. The winner of that game will face either the Diablos Rojos del Mexico or the Toros de Tijuana in the championship round of the Zona Norte playoffs.

Santiago Gutierrez allowed 3 hits and a run in his 5 innings on the mound to get the win for Saltillo.

Justin Greene was 3 for 5 with a run scored, Jon del Campo 1 for 3 with 2 walks and an RBI, Christian Zazueta 1 for 4 with 2 RBIs and Manny Rodriguez 1 for 5 with an RBI for Saltillo.

Olmo Rosario went 2 for 4 with 2 RBIs for the Acereros in the loss.

Jorge Cantu and Jose Felix homered in the 4 run 4th for the Tigres and Quintana Roo scored 4 more times in the 5th to put the game away in the 9-3 pasting of the Guerreros.

The Zona Sur divisional playoff series is tied at 3 games apiece forcing a 7th game to be played, in Cancun, on Wednesday the 26th of August. The winner of that game will take on either the Leones de Yucatan or the Piratas de Campeche in the championship round beginning on Friday the 28th of August.

Daniel Cabrera worked 6 innings, scattering 8 hits and giving up 3 runs while striking out 11 Guerreros to get the win while Irwin Delgado went 4 1/3, allowing 5 hits, including the 2 home runs to take the loss.

In addition to the home runs by Cantu and Felix, Alfredo Amezaga was 2 for 4 with2 RBIs and 2 runs scored and Eugenio Velez 2 for 4 with an RBI for the Tigres.

Luis Rodriguez was 3 for 4 with an RBI and a run scored in the loss for Oaxaca.

Piratas Take Game 2 With Leones 3-1

EVEN SERIES AT 1-1

The Piratas de Campeche scored twice in the 1st inning and used excellent pitching to defeat the Leones de Yucatan 3-1 in the second game of the Zona Sur divisional playoffs.

Jorge Castillo, who earned the win, and 3 relievers allowed the Leones 5 hits and 1 run over 7 1/3 innings before turning the game over to their closer Fernando Nieve. Nieve picked up his second save of the playoffs, shutting down the Leones over the final 1 2/3 innings

Carlos Colmenares drew a lead off walk to start the game for Campeche. A pick off attempt by Quevedo went wide of first and Colmenares wound up on third base. Ronny Paulino singled to drive in Colmenares and Paulino scored on a double by CJ Retherford. The Piratas had the early 2-0 lead.

Both pitching staffs were in control until the 7th inning. Fernando Flores doubled to left with two outs in the top of the 7th and scored on a single to left by Paul Leon to stretch the Piratas lead 3-0.

Yucatan got a run back in their half of the 7th. Jesus Valdez and Hector Gimenez both walked. Luis Garcia hit a ground ball to third that forced Valdez for the first out. Ricardo Serrano doubled to right to score Gimenez to cut the lead to 3-1 but the Leones would score no more as the Piratas won by that final score.

Both teams travel to Campeche today and will continue the best of seven series on Friday the 21st of August.

Cyle Hankerd powered the Diablos to victory on Wednesday, going 2 for 3 at the plate with 2 home runs and 6 RBIs. He also had a walk and scored 2 runs. Ivan Terrazas, the star on the first game of this series, continued his hot hitting with a 3 for 4 night to raise his average for the playoffs to .714. Terrazas drove in a run and scored twice in the Diablos 10-5 win over the Toros.

Steven Hensley picked up the win in relief for Mexico while Logan Duran, the Tijuana starter, gave up 6 runs on 5 hits in 2 innings on the mound to take the loss. The Toros pitchers walked 5 batters and 3 of them scored.

Enrique Trujillo was 3 for 3 at the plate for Tijuana with a run scored. Dustin Martin was 2 for 5 and Miguel Olivo went 1 for 4 with a solo home run.

The Diablos take a 2-0 lead into the travel day and will continue the series in Tijuana on Friday.

Monclova 1, Saltillo 0

Jose Oyervides allowed just 1 hit, walked 1 and struck out 9 Saraperos over 8 innings to get the win for the Acereros. Angel Ramirez pitched to one batter in the top of the 9th and Juan Noriega got the final 2 outs to record the save.

The Acereros are 2-0 in the divisional playoff series with Saltillo. The series now shifts to Saltillo for 3 games (if necessary) beginning on Friday the 21st of August.

The Saltillo pitchers matched the Monclova pitchers pitch for pitch except for the 4th inning. Olmo Rosario drew a one out walk for the Acereros and Brett Harper followed with a single. Jose Amador drew a base on balls to load the bases with one out. Jose Ruiz hit a grounder to first that scored Rosario with the only run of the game and the Monclova win.

The Tigres dropped to 0-2 in the Zona Sur playoffs against the Guerreros with the 7-2 loss at home. Oaxaca took both games in Cancun, outscoring the Tigres 15-2 in the process. The Tigres are the #2 seed and the Guerreros the #3 seed in the Sur playoffs.

The series now moves to Oaxaca where the Guerreros have a chance to take the series in front of the home crowd.

Irwin Delgado picked up the win for Oaxaca, going 5 innings, allowing 4 hits and a run while striking out 5 Tigres. Manny Corpas pitched his way into a save situation in the 9th before getting credit for the save. Pablo Ortega was roughed up for 5 runs on 6 hits in 3 2/3 innings to take the loss.

Yancarlo Angulo was 2 for 5 with a home run and 3 RBIs while Alan Sanchez went 3 for 5 with 2 RBIs and Jaime Brena was 1 for 3 with 2 RBIs for the Guerreros.
