Culiacan Doubles Up Hermpsillo 6-3

The Tomateros de Culiacan scored 3 runs in the third inning and added 3 more in the 4th to double up the Naranjeros de Hermosillo 6-3. Rico Noel was 3 for 5 with 2 runs scored and Luis Cruz 2 for 4 with 2 RBIs and a run scored for Culiacan.

Francisco Peguero went 2 for 5 with 2 walks, a home run, 2 RBIs and 2 runs scored for Hermosillo.

Culiacan began the top of the 3rd with 4 consecutive singles. Cruz drove in Jose Chavez with single number three and Blake Gailen plated Noel for run number 2. Two outs later, Issmael Salas drove in Cruz for the 3-0 Tomateros lead.

Ali Solis singled to lead off the top of the 4th. Chavez and Noel singled to load the bases with no outs. Cruz hit a sac fly to plate Solis. Gailen hit another sac fly to score Chavez and Ryan McBroom singled to score Noel for the 6-0 lead.

The Naranjeros cut the lead to 6-2 in their half of the 4th on a walk to Fernando Perez. Peguero followed with his 3rd home run of the season to score Perez.

Hermosillo loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom of the 9th on a single, a hit batter and a walk but only managed 1 run on a sac fly by Cedric Hunter. Final score 6-3 Tomateros.

Mauricio Lara (2-1) picked up the win in relief for the 11-10 Tomateros and Casey Coleman earned his league leading 7th save of the season. Luis Mendoza (2-1) gave up 6 runs on 11 hits in 3 2/3 innings on the mound to take the loss for the 10-11 Naranjeros.

Culiacan Over Hermosillo 3-1

3 RUN 4th INNING DOES IT FOR TOMATEROS

Arturo Reyes (0-3), starting pitcher for the Naranjeros, ran into trouble in the 4th inning, giving up 2 doubles and a single as the Tomateros scored 3 times.

Roemon Fields lead off the inning with a double and went to third on a sacrifice bunt. Fields scored when Luis Cruz singled to left. Reyes then got 2 outs but gave up a double to Antonio Lamas that scored Noel and Cruz for the Tomateros 3-0 lead.

Manny Barreda (2-0), the Culiacan starter, pitched 6 very good innings, scattering 3 hits and allowing a Hermosillo run in the 2nd. Casey Coleman earned his 3rd save of the young season.

With one out in the top of the 2nd, Roberto Ramos drew a walk. Jose Cardona singled with Ramos stopping at second. One out later, Jorge Flores singled to score Ramos to cut the Culiacan lead to 3-1. Hermosillo was unable to score again and the Tomateros had the 3-1 win.

13,681 fans filled Estadio de los Tomateros to watch the home team play a crisp 2 hour and 50 minute game and come away winners to improve to 6-4 while the Naranjeros fell to 3-7 on the season. These 2 teams meet again on Thursday the 25th of October for the third game of a 3 game series.

Tomateros Edge Aguilas 3-2

Although neither starting pitcher was around for the finish, both pitched well. Culiacan's Aldo Montes allowed 1 run on 3 hits through 5 2/3 innings and the Aguilas' starter, Javier Solano gave up 2 runs on 5 hits in his 5 2/3 innings on the mound. Derrick Loop (1-0) was charged with a blown save but got the win in relief with Casey Coleman earning the save. Jake Sanchez, (0-1), the Aguilas closer, gave up the winning run and was charged with the loss.

Culiacan scored first, in the top of the 4th, on a double by Ryan McBroom and a run scoring single by Issmael Salas for the 1-0 lead.

A one out solo home run by Ricky Alvarez in the bottom of the 5th for Mexicali tied the game.

Rico Noel reached on a hot shot single to third in the top of the 6th, went to second on a sacrifice bunt and scored on a single by Salas as Culiacan retook the lead 2-1.

Juan Perez singled with 2 outs in the Mexicali half of the 8th inning, stole second and scored on a single by Misael German and the game was tied yet again setting up the 9th inning.

Salas got things going for Culiacan with a lead off single in the top of the 9th. Salas advanced on a sacrifice bunt and went to third on a single by Antonio Lamas. Pinch hitter Jose Orozco singled to left on a 1-1 pitch to score Salas for the 3-2 Tomatero lead.

Casey Coleman set the Aguilas in order in the bottom of the 9th to preserve the win for Culiacan.

The Tomateros improved to 4-2 on the season while the Aguilas fell to 3-2 after the loss.

Caneros Outlast Charros 6-4

Kyle Simon started for the Charros on Tuesday night against the Caneros de Los Mochis and lasted 2 2/3 innings before being pulled after giving up 6 runs on 8 hits as the Caneros topped the Charros 6-4.

Simon fell to 1-1 on the year with the loss and his ERA ballooned to 12.91. Seven of the 11 hits by the Caneros went for doubles.

Luis Niebla worked 6 innings for the Caneros giving up 4 runs on 7 hits and striking out 3. Niebla was pulled in the 7th inning after giving up 2 runs without recording an out. Jon Sintes picked up the save working a perfect 9th inning for Los Mochis.

Emmanuel Avila doubled in the 1st to drive in Isaac Rodriguez and JC Linares for the early 2-0 for Los Mochis.

Leandro Castro doubled to lead off the 2nd inning for the Caneros and scored on a single to right by Jesus Arredondo. 3-0 Los Mochis.

Juan Carlos Gamboa singled with one out in the top of the 3rd and went to third on a double to right  by Yadir Drake. Both runners scored on a double by JC Linares. Leandro Castro hit his second double of the game to drive in Drake as Los Mochis increased their lead to 6-0.

The Charros got on the board in their half of the 3rd. Edson Garcia singled with one out and scored on a double to center by Amadeo Zazueta. Manny Rodriguez got Zazueta home with a single and Jalisco had cut the lead to 6-2.

Art Charles drew a lead off walk for the Charros in the bottom of the 7th inning and went to second on a single by Cacao Valdez. Gabriel Gutierrez drove in both runners with a double to deep left center to get the Charros within 2 runs at 6-4.

Jalisco was unable to score again and the Caneros won the game by that 6-4 score.

Two more games against the Caneros before the Tomateros de Culiacan come to town for a weekend series beginning on Friday.

IN OTHER LMP ACTION

Culiacan 17, Mexicali 3

The Tomateros scored 9 times in the last 2 innings as Culiacan crushed to Aguilas 17-3. Jorge Vasquez was 2 for 2 with a home run and 3 RBIs, Ronny Mustelier 4 for 6 with 4 RBIs, Antonio Lamas 2 for 3 with 2 RBIs, Oscar Robles 2 for 4 with 3 RBIs and Iker Franco 3 for 5 with 3 RBIs for the Tomateros. Ramon Rios was 2 for 5 with a home run and 2 RBIs, Luis Juarez 3 for 4 and Wellington Dotel 2 for 4 with an RBI for the Aguilas, Edgar Gonzalez struck out 5 in 5 innings to get the win while Edgar Ozuna took the loss for Mexicali.

Hermosillo 7, Mazatlan 3

Casey Coleman won his second game of the year for the 5-1 Naranjeros working 6 innings, giving up 2 runs on 3 hits. Walter Silva was rocked for 11 hits in 4 2/3 innings to take the loss. Arturo Rodriguez was 3 for 4 with 2 RBIs and 2 runs scored and Eric Young Jr. 4 for 5 for Hermosillo. Brian Hernandez had 2 of the 6 hits for the Venados and drove in a run.

Navojoa 7, Obregon 3

Cole Garner hit a 3 run home run in the 3rd as the Mayos scored 7 times in the inning to top the Yaquis 7-3. Alejandro Gonzalez was 3 for 3, Christian Zazueta 2 for 5 and Yosmany Guerra 2 for 5 for Navojoa. Matt Juengel went 3 for 4, Joey Wendle 2 for 4 and Justin Greene 2 for 5 for Obregon. Hector Velazquez improved to 2-0 on the year with the win and Raul Carrillo picked up his 1st save of the year for the Mayos. Rolando Valdez lasted just 2 2/3 innings in taking the loss.
