Obregon Overcomes Mazatlan 4-2

YAQUIS SCORE 4 TIMES IN THE 8th FOR THE WIN

For 7 innings the Venados pitchers had control of the Yaquis. Alejandro Soto and 3 relievers held Obregon scoreless on 2 hits and struck out 7 over seven innings. But...everything came apart in the 8th. In one inning, 3 relief pitchers gave up 4 runs on 4 hits and walked 3 as the Yaquis scored four runs to get the win. Adrian Ramirez (1-1) took the loss and Brandon Cunniff was charged with his 3rd blown save of the season.

Dustin Antolin (2-0) picked up the win and Maikel Cleto earned his 1st save.

Edson Garcia singled to lead off the top of the 3rd and went to second on a throwing error by the center fielder. Garcia went to third on a ground out and scored on a single by Asael Sanchez for the 1-0 Mazatlan.

The Venados scored again in the 4th. With 2 outs, Carlos Gastelum was hit by a pitch and scored on a double to the left field corner by Sherman Johnson to increase the Mazatlan lead to 2-0.

Juan Carlos Gamboa began the bottom of the 8th with a single. With one out, Jesus Valdez singled. Cheslor Cuthbert drew a walk to load the bases. Gamboa scored on a wild pitch to cut the lead to 2-1. Leo Heras received an intentional pass to load the bases again. Valdez scored on a single by Moises Gutierrez to tie the game at 2. Jose Felix singled to drive in Cuthbert to give the Yaquis their first lead of the game at 3-2. With the bases still loaded, Eury Perez walked to force in Heras for the 4-2 lead and the Obregon win.

Obregon Pounds Los Mochis 8-3

YAQUIS SCORE 6 TIMES IN THE 1st

The Caneros scored early. Isaac Salazar began the game with a single. One out later, Ramon Urias singled as did Leandro . With the bases loaded and 1 outs, Salazar scored on a fielder's choice as Los Mochis took a 1-0 lead.

The Yaquis sent 9 men to the plate in the bottom half of the 1st and 6 of them scored as Obregon broke open the game. Daniel Robertson and Jose Aguilar began the inning by drawing walks. Cheslor Cuthbert hit a ground rule double that scored Robertson. Aguilar scored on a ground ball out and John Nogowski hit a 2 run home run to left for a 4-1 lead. Juan Carlos Gamboa scored on a wild pitch and Jose Felix scored on a single by Richy Pedroza to make it 6-1 after one.

Los Mochis scored twice in the 3rd on a walk, a triple by Leandro Castro and a sac fly by Saul Soto to trim the lead to 6-3.

Obregon put the game away with 2 runs in the bottom of the 7th.

Dustin Antolin (1-0) picked up the win in relief of starter Nate Reed who failed to go the required 5 innings to qualify for the win. Luis Perez (0-3) gave up 6 runs on 4 hits and lasted just 2/3 of an inning to take the loss.

Both teams are 8-8 on the season.
