Charros Win 5-2 In Hermosillo

Playing on a Monday night with no other LMP teams in action, the Charros had center stage in the Mexican baseball world and did not disappoint.

Powered by home runs by Max Muncy and Jesus Valdez, the Charros put away the Naranjeros de Hermosillo 5-2, collecting 12 hits along the way. The only starter without a hit was catcher Gabriel Gutierrez.

William Oliver (1-0) worked into the 7th inning, giving up both Naranjero runs on just 3 hits. Oliver was relieved in the 7th after walking the first 2 batters he faced in the inning. Brian Broderick, the last of 4 relievers used by manager Juan Navarrete, worked the final 2/3 of the 9th to preserve the win for Oliver.

Hermosillo starter Alfredo Aceves (0-1) took the loss for the Naranjeros allowing 4 runs on 5 hits including the 2 home runs in 4 2/3 innings.

The Charros opened the scoring in the top of the 1st inning when Manny Rodriguez singled and scored on a single to right by Jesus Valdez. The Hermosillo right fielder misplayed the ball for an error that allowed Rodriguez to score from first to give the Charros a 1-0 lead.

Jose Amador tied the game for Hermosillo in the bottom of the 2nd inning when he took a one ball, one strike fastball to left for a solo home run that cleared the wall just to the right of the 325' sign.

Japhet Amador, the DH for the Charros, singled to right to lead off the 4th and trotted home in front of Max Muncy's home run to deep center as Jalisco retook the lead for good at 3-1.

Jesus Valdez hit a two out solo home run to the deepest part of center field in the 5th to increase to Charros lead to 4-1.

The Naranjeros mounted their biggest threat of the night in the bottom of the 7th when 3 of the first 4 batters were issued free passes to load the bases with one out. Julio Felix came on in relief of Marco Campoy and gave up a sac fly to Luis Garcia as Hermosillo narrowed the gap to 4-2, but Felix got Yunesky Sanchez to fly out to center to end the threat.

Jesus Lopez led off the top of the 9th for the Charros with a single and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Eduardo Arredondo. Following a wild pitch that moved Lopez to third, Manny Rodriguez doubled to left center to score Lopez for the final 5-2 margin of victory.

Jesus Valdez was 3 for 4 with a home run and Max Muncy 1 for 4 with a home run and 2 RBIs. Manny Rodriguez went 2 for 5 with an RBI and Leo Heras 2 for 3 in the win.

Jose Amador went 1 for 3 with the home run for Hermosillo. Jesus Loya, Adan Munoz and Jorge Flores had the other 3 hits on the night for the Naranjeros.

Charros Win Home Opener Over Tomateros 6-4

The Charros de Jalisco broke open a close game with 3 runs in the 5th inning to win their home opener with a 6-4 victory over the Tomateros de Culiacan. Marco Tovar (1-0) pitched 5 strong innings allowing 2 runs on 7 hits and Brian Broderick, the reigning "Reliever of the Year" notched his first save.

Hector Rodriguez (0-1) suffered the defeat for Culiacan.

Eduardo Arredondo led off the bottom of the 1st for the Charros with a double to right and scored on a double by Jesus Valdez. A passed ball advanced Valdez to third and he scored on a single by Japhet Amador. The Charros had the early 2-0 lead.

Consecutive singles by Joey Meneses and Ryan Lollis started the top of the 2nd inning for Culiacan. A passed ball by the Charros catcher moved both runners up. Sergio Gastelum fouled a pitch off of his foot and had to be helped from the field. Two batters later Ali Solis drove in Meneses with a ball to deep short and Lollis scored on a single by Luis Borges. The score was tied at 2.

Gabriel Gutierrez doubled with one out in the Charros half of the 2nd and scored on a triple by Jesus Lopez as the Charros retook the lead 3-2.

Jesus Valdez drew a walk and went to second on a single by Japhet Amador to begin the bottom of the 5th. Max Muncy reached on an infield single to load the bases with no outs for the Charros. Manny Rodriguez doubled to left center to score Valdez and Amador. Alex Liddi followed with a single to drive in Muncy as the Charros upped their lead to 6-2.

Ryan Lollis hit a solo home run to right for the Tomateros in the top of the 8th to narrow the gap to 6-3.

With one away in the top of the 9th, Everth Cabrera singled and advanced to second as Nick Van Stratten waited out a base on balls. Nick Buss followed with a single to right that scored Cabrerea. Jorge Cantu struck out and when Joey Meneses hit into a 5-4 fielders choice, the game was over with the Charros prevailing 6-4.

Japhet Amador went 3 for 4 for the Charros with an RBI, Eduardo Arredondo 2 for 5, Jesus Valdez with an RBI and 2 runs scored and Jesus Lopez was 1 for 4 with a run scoring triple.

Ryan Lollis was 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 runs scored for Culiacan and Nick Buss 2 for 5 with an RBI.

IN OTHER LMP ACTION

Mazatlán 6, Los Mochis 5

Cyle Hankerd was 3 for 3 with a home run, 2 RBIs and 3 runs scored for the Venados in heir 6-5 win over the Caneros. Olmo Rosario added an RBI on a 2 for 4 night at the plate. Jesus Arredondo was 2 for 3 with an RBI and 2 runs scored for Los Mochis. Francisco Lizarraga (1-0) got the win and Steven Hensley picked up the save. Tony Cordova (0-1) took the loss for the Caneros.

Ciudad de Obregon 4, Navojoa 0

Sarter Rolando Valdez and 5 relief pitchers held the Mayos to 3 hits in the4-0 shutout. Victor Arano (1-0) picked up the win while Ruddy Acosta suffered the loss. Christian Villanueva had a 3 run home run for the Yaquis going 1 for 2 with 2 walks. Alejandro Gonzalez, Jesus Castillo and Diego Madera had the 3 Navojoa hits.

Mexicali 4, Hermosillo 1

The Aguilas #1 and #2 hitters, Wellington Dotel and Walter Ibarra had half of the Mexicali hits and were 4 for 7 with 2 RBIs and a run scored as the Aguilas topped the visiting Naranjeros de Hermosillo 4-1. Javiar Solano (1-0) pitched 5 innings for the win and Adam Reifer got his first save of the year. Edgar Gonzalez (0-1) suffered the loss lasting just 1 2/3 innings and giving up all 4 Aguilas runs.

Tomateros de Culican Defeat the Charros de Jalisco 2-0 In League Opener

20,790 enthusiastic fans packed the BBVA Bancomer stadium in Culiacan to watch the defending LMP Champion Tomateros take on the league runner up Charros de Jalisco on Friday. They were not disappointed as the Tomateros got very good pitching from starter Salvador Perez (1-0) and 5 relievers to shutout the Charros 2-0. Oscar Villarreal worked the 9th inning to pick up the save.

Alex Sanabia (0-1) worked 3 1/3 innings for the Charros, giving up both runs, in taking the loss. Sanabia's only mistake was a 1-0 fastball that Nick Buss sent over the right field wall for a solo home run that gave Perez all the support he needed.

Jorge Cantu singled to lead off the bottom of the 4th inning for the Tomateros but was forced at second on a ground ball by Ryan Lollis. Sanabia then threw a wild pitch that moved Lollis to second and he scored on a single to left by Joey Menese. That would be the extent of the scoring as the Tomateros opened the Liga Mexicana del Pacifico with a win.

Jesus Valdez had 2 of the 5 Charros hits while reigning League MVP, Jose "Manny" Rodriguez went hitless, with a walk, in 3 trips to the plate. Eduardo "El Mosco" Arredondo, Japhet "El Gigante" Amador and Alex Liddi had the other hits for the Charros.

Nick Buss had the home run in 4 at bats, Lollis went 2 for 3 and four other Tomateros accounted for the 7 Culiacan hits.

These two teams meet today in Guadalajara to continue their season series at the home of the Charros. The home opening ceremonies will begin at 5 PM and, although mostly sold out, there are still seats to be had.

Veracruz tied the game at Diablos Score Late To Defeat Aguilas 2-1

The Diablos Rojos took on the Aguilas del Rojos at the Parque Deportivo Universitario Beta Avila on Saturday and came away with a 2-1 win.

Although neither starting pitcher figured in the decision, both pitched very well. Mexico's Marco Duarte went 6 2/3 innings giving up 1 run on 7 hits and struck out 5. Omar Vazquez went 5 innings for Veracruz allowing 1 run on 6 hits. Carlos Vazquez (1-0) got the win for the Diablos while Juan Sandoval picked up his 1st save. Norman Elenes (0-1) took the loss.

Roman Urias singled with one out in the top of the 1st for the Diablos and scored on Japhet Amador's single to left that put Mexico up 1-0.

Veracruz tied the game at 1 all in the bottom of the 4th. Jose Chavez doubled to left center and went to third on a 6-3 ground out by Luis Fonseca. Chavez scored on a sac fly by Ismael Salas.

In the top of the 8th, Jesus Fabela singled for Mexico. Carlos Figueroa hit into a fielder's choice for the second out. Ramon Urias then hit a line drive that the right fielder misplayed for an error that allowed Figueroa to score from first. The Diablos had a 2-1 lead. When Sandoval set the Aguilas down 1-2-3 in the bottom of the 9th, Mexico had their 7th win of the year.

Ivan Terrazas was 2 for 4 and Roman Urias 2 for 3 for Mexico with Japhet Amador going 1 for 4 with the lone Diablos RBI.

Luis Fonseca was 2 for 4 on the night  for the Aguilas.

In Other Lmb Action:

Aguascalientes 3, Puebla 2
The Rieleros scored the go ahead run in the top of the 9th on a single by Jesus Castillo and Roy Corcoran struck out 2 of 3 batters he faced in the bottom of the 9th to get the save and preserve the win for Julian Arballo (2-1). Hugo Castellanos (0-1) took the loss. Saul Soto had a double, a home run and 2 RBIs for the Rieleros in the win.

Quintana Roo 10, Monterrey 2
The Tigres got home runs from Justin Gastelum , Raul Sanchez, and 2 from Jorge Cantu to defeat the Sultanes 10 to 6. Kelvin de la Cruz improved to 2-1 on the year while Oscar Armenta (1-2) suffered the loss.  Cantu went 3 for 4 with the 2 home runs and 4 RBIs for the Tigres.

Oaxaca 7, Saltillo (12 innings)
Alan Sanchez drew a bases loaded walk in the bottom of the 12th inning to give the Guerrreros a 7-6 win over the Saraperos.  Mike Jacob was 4 for 5 with 2 doubles, 2 RBIs, and 3 runs scored for Oaxaca.  Manny Rodriguez went 4 for 5 with 3 RBIs for Saltillo.

Monclova 6, Ciudad del Carmen 4 ano
Jose Pena allowed 4 runs while striking out 6 to go to 2-0 for the Acereros and Bander Zambrano(0-2) took the loss. Raul Barron got his 3rd save.  Jose Ruiz and Antonio Lamas hit home runs for Monclova and Alex Valdez went 4 for 4 for the Delfines. 

Laguna 12, Campeche 3
The Vaqueros scored 3 runs in the 7th and 4 runs in the 8th to cruise past te Pirates 12-3.
DH Francisco Mendez was 1 for 5 with a 3 run home run and 5 RBIs for Laguna.  Roberto Lopez went 2 for 3 with 2 runs scored for Campeche.

Tabasco 1, Tijuana 0
The Olmecas scored a run in the bottom of the 6th to beat the Torros and sweep the 3 game series.  Angel Araiza (1-0) pitched 6 innings of 3 hit ball for the win and Luis Ayala notched his 3rd save.  Jose Contreras (1-1) took the loss.

Yucatan 6, Tamaulipas 5
The Leones scored twice in the top of the 9th to overtake the Broncos for the win and improve to 8-5 on the year.  Hector Gimenez went 3 for 4 with a home run and 4 RBIs for Yucatan and Jesus Valdez added a solo home run.  Cole Garner wen 3 for 4 with 2 RBIs for the Broncos.

Diablos Rojos Defeat Broncos 8-2

The Broncos de Reynosa traveled to Mexico City to take on the Diablos Rojos on Tuesday and came up short in an 8-2 loss. The Broncos and the Diablos are both 1-2 early in the 2015 Liga Mexicana de Beisbol season.

Reynosa starter, Omar Espinoza worked 5 1/3 innings allowing 5 hits and 4 runs while striking out 3 and issuing 2 walks. Marco Duarte picked up the win giving up 5 hits and 2 runs while striking out 6 in 5 2/3 innings.

The Diablos got on the board in the bottom of the 3rd. Carlos Figueroa singled, stole second and went to third on a throwing error by the Broncos catcher. Figueroa would score on a 4-3 ground out by Sergio Gastelum. With one out, Ivan Terrazas walked and scored in front of a 2 run home run to left by Japhet Amador that gave the Diablos a 3-0 lead.

Reynosa answered with a run of their own in the top of the 4th. With 2 outs, Cole Garner and Rodolfo Amador singled. Christhian Presichi then singled to score Garner and the Mexico lead was cut to 3-1.

Gabriel Gutierrez led off the bottom of the 4th with a double for Mexico and scored on a sac fly by Jesus Lopez for a 4-1 Diablos lead.

Cole Garner hit a solo home run to left in the top of the 6th for the Broncos to shave the Diablos lead to 4-2.

Mexico answered that score in the bottom of the 6th. With one out, Juan Carlos Gamboa doubled. One out later, Carlos Figueroa drew a walk. Sergio Gastelum singled to score Gamboa and Ivan Terrazas followed that with a single that scored Figueroa to up the Diablos lead to 6-2.

In the bottom of the 7th, Ruben Rivera and Emmanuel Avila hit back-to-back singles to lead off the inning. Gabriel Gutierrez hit into a 4-6-3 double play that scored Rivera to make it a 7-2 Diablos lead.

With two outs in the bottom of the 8th, Sergio Gastelum doubled and scored on a single by Ivan Terrazas. Manny Corpas, the fourth pitcher of the night for the Diablos, shut down the Broncos in the top of the 9th to preserve the win for Duarte.

Cole Garner was 2 for 4 with the home run, an RBI and 2 runs scored while Cristhian Presichi went 1 for 4 with an RBI and Rodolfo Amador was 2 for 4 for the Broncos.

The 2, 3 and 4 hitters for the Diablos went 6 for13 with 6 RBIs and 3 runs scored. Sergio Gastelum was 2 for 5 with 2 RBIs, Ivan Terrazaz went 3 for 3 with 2 walks and 2 RBIs. DH and clean up hitter Japhet Amador was 1 for 5 with the home run and 2 RBIs.

In other LMB Games:

Veracruz 8, Ciudad del Carmen 5
The Aguilas built a 7-0 lead after 2 innings and coasted to an 8-5 win over the Delfines. Both teams are 2-1 on the year. Carlos Morales had a home run for the Delfines and Eder Salcedo had a 2 run blast for the Aguilas.

Monclova 4-2 Winners At Home
The Acereros used a 3 run 2nd inning to hold off the Rieleros 4-2. Jose Oyervidez picked ip the win while Ramon Ramirez took the loss for Aguascalientes.

Tabasco Comes Back To Defeat Campeche 9-5
The Olmecas scored 6 times in the 7th inning to come from a 5-0 deficit and beat the Piratas 9-5. Donell Linares had a home run and 3 RBIs for Tabasco while Campeche's Roberto Lopez hit a home run and drove in 2 in the loss.

Puebla Scores 5 In The 9th To Top Quintana Roo 9-4
The Pericos improved to 3-0 on the year behind a Miguel Tejada grand slam home run in the 9th as Puebla broke open a tie ball game. Tejada was 2 for 5 on the night with 4 RBIs. Adrian Ramirez took the loss for the Tigres.

Laguna 10-9 Comeback Winners Over Saltillo
The vaqueros scored 3 runs in the last two innings to overcome an early 9-4 deficit and defeat the Saraperos 10-9. Oswaldo Morejon singled to center to score Diego Madero for the walk off, come from behind victory.

Yucatan 5-1 Win At Home
The Leones pitchers held the Guerreros to just 4 hits and 1 run over 9 innings in the 5-1 win. The Guerreros did not score until the top of the 9th. Mario Quevedo recorded the win for Yucatan.

Tijuana 4-2 Over Monterrey
CJ Retherford hit a 2 out 3 run home run in the bottom of the 4th to lead the Toros over the Sultanes 4-2. Alejandro Martinez got the win and Ramon Ramirez picked up his 2nd save of the year. The Toros moved to 3-0 on the season.

Tomateros de Culiacan Defeat Charros 3-1

TAKE COMMANDING 3 GAMES TO 1 LEAD

The Tomateros de Culiacan hold a 3 games to 1 lead in the Liga Mexicana del Pacifico Championship Series with their 3-1 victory over the Charros on Sunday.

The Charros had multiple opportunities to score as they loaded the bases 3 separate times during the game but were unable to capitalize. As a team, the Charros were 2 for 10 with runners in scoring position and stranded 11 runners.

The Charros loaded the bases, with one out, in the top of the 1st on singles by Manny Rodriguez, Leo Heras and Marquez Smith. Japhet Amador then lofted a fly ball to left for the second out and Rodriguez was thrown out at home trying to score.

Culiacan took advantage of the Charros failure to score in their half of the 1st. Rico Noel bunted for a hit and went to second on a sacrifice bunt by Maxwell Leon. Noel stole third and scored when Eric
Farris launched a home run to left. Culiacan went up 2-0 after one inning.

The Tomateros added to their lead in the bottom of the 4th. Dave Sappelt drew a lead off walk and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Issmael Salas. Arturo Rodriguez grounded out to the pitcher as Sappelt took third. Sergio Gastelum walked and went to second on a wild pitch by Charros starter Orlando Lara. Ramiro Pena reached base safely on a fielding error by CJ Retherford as Sappelt scored. The lead was 3-0 Culiacan.

Jalisco mounted a threat in the top of the 9th. CJ Retherford walked with one out and moved to second on a wild pitch. Sebastien Valle grounded out to second to advance Retherford to third. Pinch hitter Jesus Cota singled to drive in Retherford. The Charros loaded the bases with two outs but Leo Heras lined out to second to end the game and the Tomateros took the 3-1 win.

One game remains to be played in Culiacan. Should the Tomateros win, they become the League Champions. If the Charros win, the series returns to Guadalajara for game 6 and, if necessary, game 7.

Charros Fall To Tomateros 11-8

CULIACAN TAKES SERIES OPENER TO GO UP 1 GAME TO NONE

The Tomateros de Culiacan got the Liga Mexicana del Pacifico Championship Series off to a wild start with an exciting 11-8 victory over the Charros de Jalisco.

Ali Solis got things going for the Tomateros in the 3rd with a one out base on balls. Solis went to second on a single to center by Rico Noel. Solis moved to third on a ground out and following a walk to Eric Farris that loaded the bases, Joey Meneses singled to score Solis and Maxwell Leon for the 2-0 Culiacan lead.  

The Charros got those runs back in their half of the 3rd on a singles by Marquez Smith and Sebastian Valle. With one out, Eduardo Arredondo singled to right to score Smith and get Valle to third. Manny Rodriguez hit a sac fly to left to drive in Valle and the score was tied at 2 each.

Dave Sappelt led off the Tomateros' 4th with a single and went to second on a single by Sergio Gastelum. Ramiro Pena singled to left and when the Charros left fielder, Jon Weber, overran the ball, Sappelt and Gastelum scored. Pena wound up on third and scored on a sac fly to left by Ali Solis as Culiacan retook the lead 5-2.  

Jalisco used three pitchers in the 5th as the Tomateros exploded for 6 runs in the inning. Joey Meneses drove in a run, Dave Sappelt belted a two run home run to right, Ramiro Pena hit a sac fly for a run and Rico Noel tripled to drive in two for the 11-2 Culiacan lead.  

In the 6th for the Charros, Leo Heras singled and CJ Retherford waited out a walk. Both runners scored on a three run home run by Japhet Amador, a long home run to left that narrowed the lead to 11-5 Culiacan.

Jalisco chipped away at the lead in the 7th. Jesus Lopez doubled to begin the inning and went to third on a fly ball to right by Eduardo Arredondo. Manny Rodriguez doubled to center to score Lopez. The lead was 11-6 Culiacan.     

With two outs in the bottom of the 9th, Eduardo Arredondo singled to deep short and scored in front of a home run to left by Manny Rodriguez to bring the Charros to within three runs at 11-8. The next batter, Leo Heras, struck out to end this very exciting game.

The series continues today, Thursday, in Guadalajara with a travel day on Friday and games 3, 4, and 5 in Culiacan beginning on Saturday the 24th of January.

Charros take 3 Games to 2 Lead in Liga Mexicana del Pacifico Semifinals

Obregon jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the 1st inning. Corey Wimberly singled and advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Jose Chavez. Wimberly stole third and scored on a single to right by Brad Nelson.

CJ Retherford tied the game for Jalisco in the top of the 2nd with his second home run of the postseason, a solo shot to left to bring the Charros back 1-1.

=Obregon retook the lead in the 5th on a solo home run to left by Corey Wimberly, his second of this playoff series and his third hit of the evening.

Jalisco took the lead again in the top of the 6th on a single by Leo Heras and a single to right by CJ Retherford. Heras scored on a throwing error by the Yaquis right fielder as Retherford advanced to third. After Jon Weber popped out to second, Japhet Amador singled to center to score Retherford as the Charros took a 3-2 lead.

The Yaquis tied the game in the bottom of the 8th on a walk to JC Linares to begin the inning, a single by Brad Nelson and a ground out to second by Yunesky Sanchez that scored Linares to tie the game 3-3.

With two outs in the 9th for Jalisco, Eduardo Arredondo singled and went to third on a single to right by Manny Rodriguez. Leo Heras then singled to right to score Arredondo with the go ahead run and CJ Retherford singled to left to score Rodriguez with an insurance run. When Manny Acosta, who picked up the win, set the Yaquis down 1-2-3 in the bottom of the 9th, the Charros had the 5-3 win and a 3 games to 2 lead in the semifinals.

Obregon Takes 2nd Game of Semifinals

The Yaquis de Obregon took game 2 of the Liga Mexicana del Pacifico semifinals on Monday in Guadalajara against the Charros on the power hitting of Carlos Valencia.

Jalisco opened the scoring in the bottom of the 1st. Eduardo Arredondo hit a ground rule double to right to lead off the inning but was thrown out at third on an infield single by Manny Rodriguez. The play was in front of Arredondo who should have held his position at second base. The Yaquis pitcher, Arturo Lopez, threw a wild pitch that moved Rodriguez to second. Leo Heras walked. Japhet Amador singled to shallow center and Rodriguez was cut down at the plate on a strong throw by Yaqui center fielder Corey Weber. The third base coach should have held Rodriguez at third because the ball was hit to shallow center and Wimberly was charging the ball. CJ Retherford then singled to left to score Heras and the Charros led 1-0. Those base running errors would have made the difference in the game for Jalisco. If the Charros expect to win the championship they must avoid these types of base running errors.

Obregon got that run back in the top of the 2nd on a solo home run by JC Linares that tied the score at 1 all.

Things were quiet until the top of the 6th when Obregon erupted for 4 runs. Daniel Castro hit a lead off double and went to third on a sacrifice bunt by Corey Wimberly. With two outs, Yunesky Sanchez drew a base on balls. Brad Nelson singled to score Castro and get Yunesky to third. Carlos Valencia then homered to drive in three and the Yaquis led 5-1.

The Charros answered in their half of the 6th on a one out single by Leo Heras. Japhet Amador singled to right to move Heras to third but Amador was thrown out at second trying to stretch his single into a double. Arturo Lopez the uncorked another wild pitch to score Heras from third as the Charros cut the Yaquis' lead to 5-2.

Jesus Lopez doubled with two outs in the 7th for Jalisco and scored on a single by Eduardo Arredondo. Following a pitching change by the Yaquis, Manny Rodriguez hit a two run home run to left to score pinch runner Edson garcia and tie the game at 5.

Obregon scored the eventual winning run in their half of the 8th. Brad Nelson doubled, went to third on a fly to right by Carlos Valencia and scored on a sac fly by Christian Villanueva. The final score was 6-5 Obregon.

The series shifts to Ciudad de Obregon tied at 1 game apiece. games 3, 4 and 5 will be played in Ogregon with games 6 and 7 played in Guadalajara if necessary.

Playoff Baseball Returns to Guadalajara

CHARROS TOP VENADOS 4-1 TO TAKE GAME 1

The 2014 Liga de Mexicana del Pacifico regular season has come to an end and the Charros de Jalisco have finished as the top seed in their first year in the league. Jalisco started off the post season with a 4-1 win over the Venados de Mazatlan to go up 1 game to none in the best of seven series.

Marquez Smith got things going for the Charros in the bottom of the 3rd by drawing a lead off walk. Gabriel Gutierrez followed with a double to move Smith to third. Jesus Lopez then hit a sac fly to center that scored Smith and moved Gutierrez to third. Gutierrez scored when the Venados third baseman threw wild to first on a ground ball off the bat of Manny Rodriguez. The Charros led 2-0 and never looked back.

The Venados got a run back in the top of the 4th on a double by Ronnier Mustelier and a single by Olmo Rosario to cut the lead to 2-1 Charros.

Jalisco scored in the bottom of the 6th on singles by Leo Heras and Japhet Amador and a single by Charros newcomer, Jon Weber, formerly of the Mayos de Navojoa, that scored Heras for the 3-1 Jalisco lead.

The Charros scored their final run on a lead off, solo home run by Marquez Smith in the bottom of the 7th for the final score of 4-1.

Starting pitcher for the Charros, Marco Tovar, picked up the win, going 6 innings while scattering 7 hits, walking 1 and striking out 3. Mario Mendoza notched the save by pitching a perfect 9th inning.

Gabriel Gutierrez was 3 for 3 with a double and a run scored. Marquez went 1 for 3 with the home run, an RBI and 2 runs scored while Jon Weber was 1 for 4 with an RBI

Charros Come from Behind to Beat Venados 12-7

Hugo Castellanos recorded the win for Jalisco on Sunday over the Venados de Mazatlan as the Charros took game two of the final series of the year by a score of 12-7. The game was all Venados until the Charros exploded for 7 runs in the bottom of the 8th inning.

Mazatlan jumped on Charros starter Marco Tovar for 3 runs in the top of the 1st. Blake Gailen hit a solo home run to right with one out. Ronnier Mustelier, who had doubled, scored in front of a home run by Olmo Rosario to give the visiting Venados a 3-0 lead.

The Charros fought back in their half of the inning. After Eduardo Arredondo and Manny Rodriguez fouled out, Leo Heras walked, Japhet Amador singled and CJ Retherford drew a base on balls to load the bases. Gabriel Gutierrez came through with a double to score Heras and Amador to cut the Venados lead to 3-2.

Jalisco tied the score in the 3rd when Eduardo Arredondo tripled with two outs and scored when the Mazatlan shortstop botched a ground ball by Manny Rodriguez.

Ronnier Mustelier doubled with one out in the 3rd for Mazatlan and scored on a single by Heber Gomez as the Venados retook the lead 4-3.

The Venados added to their lead in the 4th on a triple by Jesus Fabela and a single by Blake Gailen to increase the Venados lead to 5-3.

Jesus Fabela singled with one out in the 6th and scored on a double by Blake Gailen. Oswaldo Morejon's single scored Gailen and Mazatlan extended their lead to 7-3.

Eduardo Arredondo singled to lead off the Charros 7th and scored on Manny Rodriguez' eighth home run of the year as Jalisco kept fighting to narrow the lead to 7-5 Mazatlan.

The 8th inning was all Charros. CJ Retherford singled to lead off the inning and went to second on a single by Gabriel Gutierrez. Marquez Smith drew a free pass to load the bases. After a pitching change for Mazatlan, Jesus Lopez singled to score Retherford. Edson Garcia hit a sac fly to right that scored Gutierrez. Eduardo Arredondo then singled to reload the bases. Manny Rodriguez drilled a single to left to score Smith and Lopez and the Charros had their first lead of the game at 9-7. After Jalisco pulled off a double steal, the Venados chose to walk Leo Heras to load the bases and bring up the league leader in RBIs, Japhet Amador. Amador delivered a single that scored Arredondo and Rodriguez for an 11-7 lead. CJ Retherford hit into a 6-4 fielder's choice that gave the Charros a 12-7 victory over Mazatlan.

Eduardo Arredondo was 2 for 5 with a triple and 2 runs scored while Manny Rodriguez had a home run and 4 RBIs as he went 2 for 5. Gabriel Gutierrez went 3 for 5 with a double and 2 RBIs. Japhet Amador drove in 2 runs, his 53rd and 54th on the season, going 3 for 5 while scoring a run.

Jalisco is a league best 42-25 overall and 21-11 in the second half. They have clinched the best record in the Liga Mexicana del Pacifico as the Tomateros de Culiacan are 4 1/2 games back with one game to play.

Jalisco Takes game 2 of Series With Yaquis, 7-1

Game two of the series with Obregon on Tuesday the 23rd of December went to the Charros by a 7-1 score. Orlando Lara is now 7-3 on the year with the win and Japhet Amador hit his 13th home run of the season.

Manny Rodriguez singled and scored on a single to center by Leo Heras that the Yaquis center fielder mis played and threw away trying to get Rodriguez at home. Heras went to third on the throw. After Japhet Amador walked, CJ Retherford hit a grounder to third that scored Heras for the quick 2-0 Charros lead.

Christian Villanueva hiy a solo home run to left for Obregon in the bottom of the 1st that proved to be the only run the Yaquis would score on the day.

The Charros exploded for 4 runs in the top of the 5th. Ivan Araujo walked to lead off the inning. Amadeo Zazueta struck out but Edson Garcia was hit by a pitch to put two runners on for Jalisco. Manny Rodriguez skyed out to center moving Araujo to third. With Leo Heras up the Charros pulled off a double steal with Araujo swoping home and Garcia taking second. Heras reached when the Yaquis left fielder dropped a fly ball that scored Garcia. Japhet Amador followed with a 2 run shot to center and the Jalisco lead was up to 6-1.

Fernando Valenzuela walked to lead off the 9th for Jalisco and scored on 3 wild pitches by the Obregon reliever, the Charros would win this game 7-1.

Charros Best Obregon, 7-3

The Charros de Jalisco visited Obregon on Monday the 22nd for the start of a three game series with the Yaquis and took the first game by a 7-3 score. Juan Delgadillo picked up his second win in a row to improve to 3-6 and CJ Retherford hit his sixth home run of the season.

Obregon scored in the bottom of the 1st on a single by Esteban Quiroz, a stolen base and a double to right by Brad Nelson as the Yaquiz took a 1-0 lead.

CJ Retherford hit a solo home run to left in the top of the 2nd to tie the score at 1.

The Charros took the lead in the top of the 4th. Leo Heras led off with a triple and Japhet Amador walked. With one out, CJ Retherford hit a grounder to third that scored Heras with the go ahead run and a 2-1 Charros advantage.

Amadeo Zazueta and Israel Nunez singled for Jalisco in the top of the 5th. Both runners advanced on a ground ball to first. Zazueta scored on a single by Manny Rodriguez and Leo Heras walked to load the bases. Japhet Amador hit a sac fly to left to drive in Nunez and the Charros led 4-1.

The Yaquis made a run at the Charros in the 6th. With one out Esteban Quiroz singled and Christian Villanueva drew a base on balls. Brad Nelson singled to left to load the bases. Ivan Zavala relieved Juan Delgadillo for Jalisco and gave up a single to Carlos Valencia that scored Quiroz and Villanueva. Obregon had cut the lead to 4-3 but that is as close as they would get.

Manny Rodriguez singled and scored on a double by Leo Heras in the top of the 7th. Japhet Amador singled to score Heras and the Charros had increased their lead to 6-3.

In the top of the 9th, Eduardo Arredondo singled, stole second, went to third on a Manny Rodriguez ground out and scored on a single by Leo Heras for the final 7-3 score

Charros Take 2 From Naranjeros 3-2 and 7-0

The Charros de Jalisco have taken the first two games of a three game series with the Naranjeros de Hermosillo by scores of 3-2 and 7-0.

Ivan salas got the win in the 3-2 victory pitching the top of the 9th in relief of Adrian Ramirez who had given up a 2 run home run to Jose Amador that had tied the game at 2 apiece.

Jalisco opened the scoring in the bottom of the 3rd on a sac fly that scored Amadeo Zazueta for the 1-0 lead.

The Charros added a run in the bottom of the 8th when Amadeo Zazueta singled and went to third on an errant pick off attempt. Zazueta scored on a single by Israel Nunez to give the Charros a short lived 2-0 lead.

After Hermisillo had tied the game in the top of the 9th, Edson Garcia, of the Charros hit a walk off single in the bottom of the 9th to score Ivan Araujo with the winning run and the 3-2 victory for the Charros.


Jalisco improved to 35-23 overall and 14-9 in the second half of the Liga Mexicana del Pacifico season with the 7-0 win on Wednesday night. Juan Delgadillo improved to 2-6 on the year with 6 strong innings of 2 hit ball with 3 walks and 4 strikeouts.

The Charros scored two runs in the bottom of the 1st on a sac fly by Leo Heras that scored Eduardo Arredondo and a ground out by Japhet Amador that plated Manny Rodriguez for the 2-0 lead.

Manny Rodriguez singled to right in the 2nd that scored Eduardo Arredondo for a 3-0 Charros lead.

The same tandem scored a run in the 4th as Arredondo, who had singled and moved to second on a balk, scored on a single to left by Rodriguez that upped the lead to 4-0.

Leo Heras led off the 7th for Jalisco with his 8th home run of the year, a solo shot to right for a 5-0 lead. With two outs, CJ Retherford singled to left and IvanAraujo drew a base on balls. Amadeo Zazueta followed with a double that scored Retherford and Araujo for the final two runs and the 7-0 final score.

Charros Sweep Navojoa with 5-2 Victory

The Charros de Jalisco swept the three game series with the Mayos de Navojoa with a 5-2 victory on Sunday night. Ivan Zavala pitched the 8th inning for the Charros to pick up the win while Brian Broderick notched his 16th save of the year.

Jalisco scored two runs in the top of the1st. Eduardo Arredondo singled to right and Manny Rodriguez was hit by a pitch. Leo Heras laid down a sacrifice bunt to advance the runners. Japhet Amador singled to center to score Arredondo and Rodriguez for the quick 2-0 Charros lead.

The Mayos got a run back in their half of the 1st on a single by Alan Sanchez and a one out double to left by Jose Chavez that scored Sanchez to cut the Charros' lead to 2-1.

Tim Fedroff led off the bottom of the 2bd for Navojoa with a single to right. After Carlos Orrantia struck out, Fernando Flores doubled to score Fedroff and the score was tied at 2.

There would be no more runs scored by either team until the top of the 9th. Jose Lopez replaced Esteban Haro on the mound for Navojoa and got the first two batters out on fly balls to the outfield. The third batter, CJ Retherford, doubled and scored on a double to right by Edson Garcia. Jesus Lopez then singled to put runners on the corners with two outs. Lopez stole second and Garcia and Lopez both scored on a throwing error by the Navojoa shortstop on a ground ball. That made it a 5-2 ball game as Broderick pitched a 1-2-3 ninth inning to give the win to Zavala.

Ivan Zavala, normally an 8th inning set up man, got the win to go to 1-0 on the year with a 2.70 ERA while Jose Lopez took the loss for the 19-37 Mayos.

Edson Garcia was 1 for 1 with a double and an RBI after replacing Jesus Cota in left field. Japhet Amador was 1 for 4 with his 46th RBI of the year. CJ Retherford went 2 for 4 to up his batting average to .368 on the season.

The Charros are now 10 games over .500 at 33-23 and 12-9 for the second half. Jalisco is one full game ahead of both Mexicali and Culiacan for the overall Liga Mexicana del Pacifico lead.  

Charros Best Mayos 5-1

After falling behind 1-0 in the 1st, the Charros erupted for 5 runs in the 3rd to defeat the Mayos de Navojoa in the second game of a three game set in Navojoa.

Jose Chavez singled to start the bottom of the 1st for the Mayos. Carlos Orrantia singled to center to put runners on the corners with no outs. Jon Weber singled to score Chavez and give Navojoa a one run lead at 1-0.

The Charros bats remained quiet until the top of the 3rd when Gabriel Gutierrez singled to right to lead off the inning and went to third on a single by Ivan Araujo. Jesus Lopez singled to score Gutierrez with Araujo stopping at second. Eduardo Arredondo reached safely on a sacrifice bunt that the Mayo's first baseman misplayed to load the bases for the Charros. Manny Rodriguez hit into a double play that scored Araujo and got Lopez to third. Leo Heras drew a base on balls. Japhet Amador singled to score Lopez and move Heras to second. Heras stole third in front of a Marquez Smith walk that loaded the bases again for Jalisco. CJ Retherford singled to left to score Heras and Amador and the Charros were on top 5-1.

The Mayos only threat after the first came in the bottom of the 8th. With the benefit of 2 walks, Navojoa chased the Charros starter, Ben Kozlowski. Adrian Ramirez, on in relief, got Jose Chavez to pop out to second and Carlos Orrantia to pop out to first. Ivan Salas relieved Ramirez and got Jon Weber to fly out to left to end the threat.

Ben Koslowski went 7 innings giving up just 3 hits and 1 run, all in the 1st inning, t improve to 3-2 on the year. Kozlowski struck out 4 but also walked 4. The Mayos did not get a hit after the 1st inning.

Salvador Robles took the loss for the Mayos to fall to 1-7 on the season.

The Charros are now 32-23 overall and 11-9 in the second half of the season.

Culiacan Rebounds, Takes Game 2 of the Series 11-3

The Tomateros de Culiacan got their bats working last night and overpowered the Charros 11-3 behind the pitching of Francisco Campos, who worked 5 innings and gave up 1 run on 3 hits while striking out 4 Charros.

Culiacan jumped out to the lead 2-0 in the top of the 3rd. Max Leon and Eric Farris singled and after Russell Branyan struck out, Issmael Salas drew a walk to load the bases. Arturo Rodriguez then hit a fly ball to right that Leo Heras dropped and Leon and Farris scored.

Ramiro Pena doubled for the Tomateros in the 4th and scored on a single by Rico Noel for a 3-0 lead.

Jalisco would get a run back in their half of the 4th when Jesus Cota doubled and, after a wild pitch, scored on a sac fly by Amadeo Zazueta to cut the lead to 3-1.

Joey Meneses reached on a fielding error by the Charros to lead off the top of the 6th. Sergio Gastelum sacrificed Meneses to second and Meneses scored on a single by Ramiro Pena. Rico Noel hit a 2 run home run to left for a 6-1 Culiacan lead. One out later, Eric Farris hit a solo home run to cap a four run inning and the 7-1 Tomateros lead.

Japhet Amador hit his 12th home run of the year, a solo shot, in the bottom of the 6th and the Charros had narrowed the lead to 7-2.

Manny Rodriguez was hit by a pitch withone out in the bottom of the 7th and came around to score on a Marquez Smith double to left to make the score 7-3 Culiacan.

The Tomateros scored a run in the 8th and added 3 more in the 9th on 2 walks, a ground rule double by Joey Meneses and a run scoring double play ball off the bat of Ramiro Pena for the final score of 11-3.

The Charros did not help themselves in the field, committing 4 errors. They also left 9 men on base for the game and went 1 for 7 with men in scoring position.

Charros Best Caneros de Los Mochis 7-1

The Charros de Jalisco, behind some fine pitching by Juan Delgadillo and four relievers, beat the Caneros de Los Mochis 7-1 on Saturday night in Zapopan.

In the bottom of the 1st for the Charros, Manny Rodriguez singled and went to second on a 4-3 ground out by Leo Heras. Japhet Amador doubled to right to score Rodriguez and give the Charros the 1-0 lead.

The Charros added to their lead in the bottom of the 2nd. CJ Retherford led off with a single and Brendan Harris walked. Gabriel Gutierrez drew a base on balls to load the bases. Jesus Lopez hit a sac fly to right  to score Retherford and advance Harris and Gutierrez to 2nd and 3rd. Eduardo Arredondo grounded into a double play to end the inning but the Jalisco lead was 2-0 after two innings.

Los Mochis got a run back in ther top of the 3rd off Charros starter Juan Delgadillo when Yancarlo Angulo led off with a single, advanced on a wild pitch, went to third on a ground out by Rodolfo Amador and scored on a sac fly by Justin Christian. The Caneros had cut the lead to 2-1, but they would get no closer.

Jesus Cota, batting for Brendan Harris, led off the bottom of the 7th for the Charros with a single. Gabriel Gutierrez followed with a single. Edson Garcia came into the game as a pinch runner for Cota. Jesus Lopez reached safely on a throwing error by the Caneros catcher that scored Garcia and Gutierrez for the 4-1 Charros lead. The Caneros manager argued over the second run scored on the play at the plate. He argued too strenously as he was ejected by the home plate umpire. Manny Rodriguez then hit a ground rule double, his 16th double of the year, that score Lopez. Leo Heras was intentionally walked and Japhet Amador singled to right to score Rodriguez and move Heras to third. Marquez Smith followed with a sac fly to score Heras and the Charros led 7-1.

The Caneros threatened in the top of the 9th, putting runners on second and third with two outs but Rodolfo Amador flew out to left to give the Charros the 7-1 victory.

Juan Delgadillo picked up his 1st win of the year against 5 defeats going 5 innings allowing just 2 hits and 1 run. Luis Niebla took the loss to fall to 2-3 on the season for Los Mochis.

Manny Rodriguez was 2 for 5 with a double, an RBI and 2 runs scored. Japhet Amador was 2 for 4 with a double and 2 RBIs while Gabriel Gurierrez went 2 for 3 with a double and a run scored.

The Charros are now 5-3 in the second half of the season. They are 26-17 overall in the Liga Mexicana del Pacifico.

Charros Top Aguilas 2-1 in Final game of Series

The Charros de Jalisco took the third game of the series with Mexicali 2-1 behind the excellent pitching of Marco Tovar and 4 relievers. Tovar is 5-0 on the season with a 2.64 ERA and Brian Broderick earned his 13th save of the year.

Marco Tovar had a one hitter through 4 1/3 innings before giving up a solo home run to Xorge Carrillo with one out in the bottom of the 5th. The Aguilas had a 1-0 lead in what was shaping up to be a pitchers duel.

The Charros took the lead for good in the top of the 6th on back-to-back doubles by Japhet Amador and Marquez Smith and, after Mario Meza replaced Marco Durarte on the mound for Mexicali, Gabriel Gutierrez singled to score Smith for the 2-1 lead and the eventual final score.

The Aguilas threatened in the bottom of the 8th, putting a man on first with two outs but Charros reliever, Brian Broderick came on to get Walter Ibarra to ground out to second to end the inning.

Broderick overcame a one out error by shortstop Jesus Lopez in the top of the 9th to get Josh Whitesell to hit into a double play to end the game and seal the win for Marco Tovar.

Marco Durarte pitched a very good ballgame but was saddled with the loss to fall to 0-3 on the year with a very respectable 2.47 ERA.

Marques Smith had a double and a single with an RBI and a run scored in his 4 trips to the plate. Japhet Amador was 1 for 3 with a double and a run scored while Gabriel Gutierrez went 2 for 4 with an RBI.

Charros Sweep Navojoa With 9-2 Win

Ben Kozlowski pitched 6 2/3 innings of 4 hit ball on the way to a 9-2 Charros victory over the Mayos de Navojoa. Jalisco swept the series to end the first half of the season at 21-14.

Kozlowski was followed by Antonio Garzon and Hugo Castellanos who preserved the win by holding the Mayos hitless over the final 2 1/3 innings.

Fernando Valenzuela led off the bottom of the 3rd for the Charros with a solo home run, his first of the year. Jesus Lopez then singled and took second on a wild pitch by the Navojoa starter, Irving Jimenez. Manny Rodriguez doubled to left to score Lopez for the 2-0 Jalisco lead.

Eduardo Arredondo drew a walk to lead off the 5th for the Charros and came around to score on Manny Rodriguez' fourth home run of the year, a two run shot to left. Leo Heras followed the home run with a double and scored on Japhet Amador's 2 run home run, his 10th of the year.

Navojoa, behind 6-0 entering the top of the 7th, loaded the bases on three straight singles. Carlos Bustamante grounded into a double play that scored John Lindsey with the first Mayo run. Alejandro Gonzalez singled to drive in Luis Fonseca with the second run of the inning to make the score 6-2 Charros.

Jalisco scored three times in the bottom of the 8th. Fernando Valenzuela singled to lead off. The Mayos went to reliever Gene Escat who threw a wild pitch that moved Valenzuela to second. Edson Garcia walked and Eduardo Arredondo singled to load the bases. Amadeo Zazueta grounded into a 4-2 fielder's choice that cut down Valenzuela at the plate. Leo Heras was safe on a throwing error by the Mayos third baseman that scored Arredono. Japhet Amador was intentionally walked and Marquez Smith hit a sac fly to center that scored Zazueta with the third run and the final 9-2 score.

Ben Kozlowski got the win to move to 1-2 on the year while Irving Jimenez took the loss to fall to 1-4 on the season.

Fernando Valenzuela was 3 for 3 on the night with a home run. Manny Rodriguez went 2 for 4 with a double, a home run and 3 RBIs. Japhet Amador had a home run and 2 RBIs in his four at bats. Brendan Harris was 2 for 4 and Leo Heras went 1 for 5 with a double, an RBI and a run scored. Rodriguez leads the league in doubles with 14. Amador is tied for the lead in home runs with 10 and leads the league in RBIs with 32.

The Charros end the first half of the season at 21-14. The Yaquis de Obregon team is the !st Half Champion with a 21-13  record, a half game ahead of the Charros.
