Jalisco Triples Up Navojoa 9-3

7 RUN 5th INNING LEADS TO A CHARROS SWEEP OF THE 3 GAME SERIES

Orlando Lara (2-2), starting pitcher for the Charros, didn't throw a no hitter last night but he was effective over 5 innings, allowing 3 runs on 6 hits to get the win. Jose Oyervides (1-2) and reliever Oswaldo Martinez didn't fare as well. Oyervides gave up 5 runs on 8 hits in 4 innings and Martinez followed with 4 runs on 4 hits in 1/3 of an inning for the Mayos.

Navojoa had the lead after 4 1/2 innings. They scored twice in the 3rd and added a run in the 4th to take a short lived 3-2 lead.

Kevin Medrano doubled with one out in the bottom half of the 4th for the Charros and scored on a single by Santiago Chavez that tied the game at 3.

Jalisco broke the game wide open in their half of the 5th, scoring 7 runs on 8 hits. The Charros sent 12 men to the plate in the inning. The big blow came off of the bat of Japhet Amador who crushed a low and outside fastball to right for the 2 run opposite field home run. Two batters later, Yadir Drake tripled to center to drive in a run and increase the Charros lead to 7-3. A 2 run single by Manny Rodriguez drove in the final two runs in the 9-3 victory by Jalisco.

9,000+ fans were on hand at Estadio Charros de Jalisco to watch the on field fireworks and see the hometown team improve to 10-7. The win vaulted the Charros into a tie with Mazatlan, who lost last night, for the league lead. The Mayos de Navojoa fell to 7-9 with the loss.

LEAGUE LEADING MAZATLAN IMPROVES TO 10-6 ON THE YEAR

Sherman Johnson got things going for Mazatlan in the bottom of the 1st with a single and went to second on a wild pitch, With one out, Brian Hernandez singled to right to score Johnson for the 1-0 lead.

Singles by Luis Cruz and Issmael Salas in the top of the 4th put runners on the corners with 1 out for Culiacan. A ground out scored Cruz and a double by Ronnier Musteleir scored Salas as the Tomateros took a 2-1 lead.

Alex Liddi doubled to lead off the bottom of the 5th for the Venados. Samar Leyva singled to put runners at the corners with no outs. Following a strikeout, Kenny Wilson drew a 4 pitch base on balls to load the bases. With 2 outs, Edson Garcia singled to right to score Liddi and Leyva to give Mazatlan a 3-2 lead. The Venados would add a run in the 6th to increase their lead to 4-2.

A single, a walk and a sacrifice bunt had runners on second and third for the Tomateros in the top of the 7th. Pinch hitter Henry Ramos ground out 4-3  to score Antonio Lamas, as Culiacan cut the lead to 4-3.

With one out in the bottom of the 7th, Hernandez doubled to score Johnson for the 5-3 lead and Jesus Fabela singled to score Hernandez for the final 6-3 win for Mazatlan.

Walter Silva (1-0) picked up the win in relief and Evan Marshall earned his 5th save of the season. Daniel Rodriguez (0-2) worked 4 2/3 innings, giving up 3 runs on 5 hits in taking the loss for the 7-9 Tomateros.

Hermosillo Shuts Out Mexicali 4-0

The Naranjeros de Hermosillo shut out the Aguilas 4-0 for the second consecutive night. Mexicali has been held to 8 hits over the 2 games. Last night, the Aguilas had runners in scoring position in 3 separate innings but went 0 for 6 in those situations. Over the two games Mexicali was 0 for 10 with runners in scoring position.

Hermosillo scored single runs in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd innings to build a 3-0 lead.

Eric Young Jr. scored on a single by Francisco Peguero in the 1st, Jasson Atondo scored on a single by Young in the 2nd and Luis Jimenez scored on a wild pitch in the 3rd for the Naranjeros.

Danny Espinosa doubled in Peguero in the bottom of the 5th for the 4th and final run for Hermosillo.

Luis Mendoza (2-0) threw 6 2/3 innings of scoreless ball, holding the Aguilas to 4 hits while walking 4 and striking out 2 in getting the win. Javier Solano (1-1) worked 5 innings, giving up 4 runs on 9 hits in taking the loss.

The Caneros scored early. Isaac Salazar began the game with a single. One out later, Ramon Urias singled as did Leandro . With the bases loaded and 1 outs, Salazar scored on a fielder's choice as Los Mochis took a 1-0 lead.

The Yaquis sent 9 men to the plate in the bottom half of the 1st and 6 of them scored as Obregon broke open the game. Daniel Robertson and Jose Aguilar began the inning by drawing walks. Cheslor Cuthbert hit a ground rule double that scored Robertson. Aguilar scored on a ground ball out and John Nogowski hit a 2 run home run to left for a 4-1 lead. Juan Carlos Gamboa scored on a wild pitch and Jose Felix scored on a single by Richy Pedroza to make it 6-1 after one.

Los Mochis scored twice in the 3rd on a walk, a triple by Leandro Castro and a sac fly by Saul Soto to trim the lead to 6-3.

Obregon put the game away with 2 runs in the bottom of the 7th.

Dustin Antolin (1-0) picked up the win in relief of starter Nate Reed who failed to go the required 5 innings to qualify for the win. Luis Perez (0-3) gave up 6 runs on 4 hits and lasted just 2/3 of an inning to take the loss.

Both teams are 8-8 on the season. 

Charros All Over Mayos 11-2

22 HITS AND 11 RUNS FOR JALISCO

The Charros de Jalisco scored 11 runs on 22 hits in their pounding of the visiting Mayos de Navojoa. 7,501 fans filled Estadio Charros de Jalisco to see their Charros improve to 9-7 on the season. Elian Leyva (2-0) allowed 2 runs on 5 hits to get the win. Demetrio Gutierrez (0-1) could not record an out in his time on the mound in the 6th, giving up 2 runs of his own on 2 hits to take the loss as the Mayos fell to 7-8.

Navojoa had tied the game at 2 in the top of the 6th on a solo home run by Alonzo Harris but the skies opened up on the Mayos in the bottom half of the inning as the Charros responded with 4 runs of their own.

Agustin Murillo, recently returned from his LMB Champion Sultanes de Monterrey, singled to drive in a run and Manny Rodriguez followed with a sac fly to score Santiago Chavez. The big blow on the inning though was a 2 run opposite field home run by Japhet Amador that made the score 6-2 and the Charros kept piling on.

Jalisco added a run in the 7th and another 4 runs in the 8th. Final score 11-2 Charros.

Murillo was 4 for 6 with 2 RBIs and 2 runs scored while Kevin Medrano and Daric Barton were both 3 for 5. Amador went 3 for 4 with the home run, a walk and 2 RBIs. Every starter had at least 1 hit for the Charros.

Alonzo Harris went 2 for 3 with the home run, an RBI and 2 runs scored for Navojoa. Harris improved his league leading batting average to .411.

The Naranjeros have named Alfredo Meza as a coach. I have searched everywhere and I don't see that the manager, Bronswell Patrick, has been let go. I'm not sure in what capacity Meza will serve the Naranjeros. On to the transactions.

Mazatlan Wins Over Culiacan 3-2

This game was scoreless until the bottom of the 6th. Manny Barreda went 6 innings for the Tomateros giving up a run on 4 hits while Eduardo Vera went 5 for the Venados holding the Tomateros scoreless on 1 hit. Neither starter figured in the final decision.

Brian Hernandez singled with the bases loaded to drive in Sebastian Valle for the 1-0 lead but the Venados could not take advantage of the bases loaded situation.

Culiacan tied the score in the top of the 7th on a single by Antonio Lamas that scored Dylan Moore.

Mazatlan took the lead again in the bottom of the 8th when Edson Garcia singled to left to drive in Kenny Wilson for the 2-1 lead.

Playing catch up all night, the Tomateros tied the game once again in the top of the 9th as a single off the bat of Jose Orozco drove in Moore setting up the 9th inning heroics for Liddi.

Anthony Giansanti singled to lead off the inning for Mazatlan. Giansanti went to third on an errant pick off attempt by the Culiacan pitcher. Alex Liddi took a 1-0 fastball the opposite way for a single as Giansanti trotted home with the winning run.

Evan Marshall (1-0) was charged with a blown save that turned into a win for the league leading 9-6 Venados. David Goforth (1-1) possibly cost himself the game with the wild throw to first on the pick off attempt.

Hermosillo Shuts Down Mexicali 4-0

AGUILAS HELD TO 2 HITS IN THE LOSS

Jorge Castillo (1-1) held the Aguilas scoreless on 1 hit over 6 innings, walking 2 and striking out 3 in getting the win as Hermosillo improved to 6-0 on the season. Only CJ Retherford (single) and Colin Walsh (double) were able to get hits off of the Naranjeros pitching staff. David Reyes (0-1) took the loss for the 7-7 Aguilas.

Mexicali got a runner as far as second base twice in the game and went 0 for 4 with runners in scoring position.

Hermosillo scored in the 1st on a single by Francisco Peguero that drove in Cedric Hunter and a solo home run by Peguero in the 6th to give the Naranjeros a 2-0 lead.

A fielding error by the Aguilas second baseman allowed Jasson Atondo to score in the bottom of the 7th and a sac fly to right by Peguero scored Eric Young Jr. with the 4th run of the game and when reliever Marcelo Martinez struck out the Aguilas in order in the top of the 9th, Hermosillo had the 4-0 win.

Peguero was 2 for 3 with the home run, 3 RBIs and a run scored for Hermosillo while team mates Jasson Atondo, Danny Espinosa and Young were all 2 for 4 on the night.

Caneros Best Yaquis 7-4

The Yaquis de Obregon, who fell to 7-8 with the loss, scored 3 runs in the 3rd inning. Richy Pedroza drew a lead off walk and went to third on a single by Jose Felix. A wild pitch put runners at second and third with no outs. Pedroza scored on a single by Daniel Robertson. Cheslor Cuthbert singled to drive in Felix but Robertson was out at third on the throw. After a walk to Tomo Otosaka and a fly ball out, John Nogowski singled to plate Cuthbert for the 3-0 Obregon lead.

The Caneros would score all the runs they would need with 2 outs in the top of the 4th. Ramon Urias singled with 1 out. Following a strikeout for the second out, Jose Sermo doubled to drive in Urias. Jay Gonzalez singled to score Sermo. Gonzalez stole second and Saul Soto walked. Both runners advanced on a wild pitch. Genaro Andrade tripled to center as Gonzalez and Soto scored. Everth Cabrera walked and Isaac Salazar singled to drive in Andrade as the Caneros took the lead for good at 5-3.

Obregon, who fell to 7-8 on the season, got a run in the 5th to cut the lead to 5-4 but the Caneros scored twice in the top of the 8th to put the game away.

Daniel Duarte (2-0) was the winner in relief and Andres Avila earned his 6th save of the season.Dallas Martinez (0-1) gave up the 5 runs in the fourth inning on 5 hits to take the loss while pitching 3 2/3 innings for the Yaquis.

Charros Cruise by Navojoa 8-5

MANNY RODRIGUEZ WITH A GRAND SLAM

The Charros de Jalisco improved to 8-7 on the season with an 8-5 win over the Mayos de Navojoa on Tuesday night. Manny Rodriguez launched a grand slam in the 2nd inning to give Jalisco a comfortable 5-0 lead. But no lead is safe in the Liga Mexicana del Pacifico.

Navojoa clawed their way back to cut the lead to 5-4 after six innings but Jalisco scored 3 runs in the bottom of the 7th to add to their lead and get the win. With the loss the Mayos fall to 7-7 on the year.

Amadeo Zazueta hit a solo home run in the 1st for Jalisco, his first of two home runs on the night, to give the Charros the early 1-0 lead. The Rodriguez slam made it 5-0 after two.

Paul Leon doubled to begin the top of the 3rd for Navojoa and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Leon would score on a ground out to begin chipping away at the Jalisco lead.

The Mayos scored twice in the 4th, on a ground ball out that drove in Elmer Reyes and a single off the bat of Leon that plated Luis Fonseca. Another run in the 6th cut the Charros' lead to 5-4.

Jalisco scored 3 times in the 7th, including another solo home run by Zazueta and the Mayos scored a single run in the 8th. That would be all the scoring and the Charros had the 8-5 win.

Vince Molesky (2-0) scattered 7 hits over 5 1/3 innings of work to get the win. Grant Sides earned his 5th save of the campaign. Misael Siverio (0-1) gave up the first 5 runs to the Charros on 6 hits over 5 innings on the mound to take the loss.

LMP Standings and Statistics After Week 2

VENADOS DE MAZATLAN IN 1st PLACE

After 14 games, 13 for the Mayos and Aguilas, the Venados de Mazatlan at 8-6, find themselves in 1st place, a half game ahead of both Navojoa and Mexicali at 7-6. Jalisco, Culiacan, Los Mochis and Obregon, all 7-7, are a full game behind the leader. The Naranjeros de Hermosillo, who started poorly at 1-6 are in the cellar with a 5-9 record.

HITTING

Alonzo Harris (NAV) leads the league in Batting Average at .428. Brian Hernandez (MAZ) is second at .408, followed by Edson Garcia (MAZ) .385, Sherman Johnson (MAZ) .375 and Gabriel Gutierrez (JAL) .364.

David Harris (MXC) leads in home runs with 4 while four other players have hit 3 home runs.

David Harris (MXC) also leads the league with 13 RBIs and 4 players are tied for second with 12.

Alonzo Harris (NAV) has scored 17 runs to lead the league, Eric Young Jr. (HER) has scored 14 times and Rico Noel (CUL) crossed the plate 13 times.

Los Mochis 6-4 Winners Over Mazatlan

6 RUN 3rd INNING DOES IN THE VENADOS

Everth Cabrera singled with 1 out to get the ball rolling in the big 3rd inning for the Caneros. Isaac Salazar reached safely on a fielding error. Cabrera scored on a single by Josuan Hernandez. Ramon Urias drew a base on balls to load the bases. Salazar scored on a passed ball with the other runners moving to second and third. With 2 outs, Jay Gonzalez singled to score Hernandez and Urias. Saul Soto connected on a 1-0 pitch for a home run and just like that the Caneros led 6-0.

The Venados scored 3 times in the 7th to cut the lead to 6-3. Sebastian Valle doubled with 1 out and scored on a single by Alex Liddi. Kenny Wilson reached on a throwing error by the pitcher to load the bases. Edgar Munoz singled to plate Liddi and Wilson but that was all the scoring in the 7th for Mazatlan.

Mazatlan added a run in the top of the 9th on a 1 out walk to Wilson and a 2 out single by Sherman Johnson that scored Wilson to cut the lead to 6-4 but that would be the game and the Caneros win.

Yoanys Quiala (1-0) worked 5 innings for the Caneros giving up a hit but holding the Vanados scoreless. Andres Avila earned his 5th save of the year for the 7-7 Caneros. Daniel Guerrero (0-2) took the loss, charged with all 6 runs, as the Venados fell to 8-6 although still good for 1st place in the league.

The Yaquis had built a 3-1 lead heading into the bottom of the 8th. The Naranjeros scored first on a double by Francisco Peguero that scored Eric Young but the Yaquis took the lead in the 3rd on home runs by Tomo Otosaka and Leo Heras. Obregon added a run in the 6th when Armando Araiza scored on a wild pitch.

The wheels fell off the wagon, so to speak, for Obregon in the bottom half of the 8th. Fernando Perez led off with  single but was forced at second bu Jasson Atondo. Sergio Burrell followed with a single. Young singled to drive in Atondo. Young stole second to put runners at second and third. Cedric Hunter walked to load the bases. Peguero was hit by a pitch to force in Burrell. Pinch hitter, Rolando Acosta, reached on a fielding error that scored Young for the Hermosillo 4-3 lead.

In the top of the 9th, Jesus Valdez singled and pinch hitter Moises Gutierrez drew a walk. With 2 outs, Juan Carlos Gamboa stroked a 1-0 pitch to deep center for a double, scoring Valdez and Gutierrez for the 5-4 lead and the win.

Otosaka was 2 for 4 with a walk and a home run while team mate Heras went 1 for 4 with a home run for Obregon. Young was 3 for 6 with an RBI and 2 runs scored for Hermosillo.

Brandon Brennan (1-2) was charged with a blown save yet got the win Kyle Finnegan (0-1) took the loss for putting runners in scoring position but Wimer Rios was charged with a blown save.

The Yaquis de Obregon improve to 7-7 while the Naranjeros de Hermosillo fall to 5-9 on the young season/

JOVAN ROSA'S 2 RUN HOME RUN THE DIFFERENCE

Tha Mayos scored first in the bottom half of the 3rd. Fernando Flores walked and stopped at third on a double by Alejandro Gonzalez. Flores scored on a sac fly by Alonzo Harris for the early 1-0 lead.

Culiacan tied things up in the top of the 5th on singles by Jose Orozco and Alexis Wilson and then a 2 out single by Antonio Lamas that scored Orozco.

The Tomaters added a run on a solo home run off the bat of Ryan McBroom in the top half of the 6th to give Culiacan a 2-1 lead.

Navojoa put the game away in their half of the 6th. Harris singled and stole second. A ground out got Harris to third. A single to center by Victor Mendoza plated Harris and Mendoza scored in front of a Jovan Rosa home run to center that gave the Mayos a 4-2 lead and the eventual win.

Rosa was 1 for 2 with a walk and the home run for Navojoa while McBroom went 1 for 4 with the home run for the Tomateros.

Juan Robles (1-0) got the win in relief and Jesus Pirela notched his 3rd save of the young season. Mauricio Lara (1-1) was charged with a blown save and the loss.

With the win, the Mayos improved to 7-6 while Culiacan fell to 7-7.

Mexicali Over Jalisco 5-4 in 10 Innings

DAVID HARRIS SINGLES TO DRIVE IN THE WINNING RUN

Jalisco jumped out to a 1-0 lead after 1 inning but the Aguias were relentless and took a 4-2 lead into the 8th inning. Manny Rodriguez doubled in the 1st, his 183rd double in his LMP career. Rodriguez tied Oswaldo Morejon for 5th place in doubles in the LMP.

Will Oliver, the Charros starter, held Mexicali in check until the top of the 5th. Colin Walsh led off the inning with a double and Xorge Carrillo drew a base on balls. Ricky Alvarez followed with a double to score Walsh but Alvarez was out at third when Carrillo stopped at third and Alvarez didn't notice. Ricardo Serrano singled to drive in Carrillo and the Aguilas took a 2-1 lead.

The Charros tied the game in their half of the 5th. Yadir Drake walked and Niko Vasquez singled. A force out put runners on the corners and Drake scored on a wild pitch.

Mexicali retook the lead in the 7th when Carrillo, who had singled, scored in front of an Alvarez home run to left center for the 4-2 Aguilas lead.

In the see saw game, Jalisco scored 2 runs of their own in the bottom of the 8th. Daniel Carbonell doubled to begin the inning and scored on back-to-back wild pitches. Amadeo Zazueta doubled and scored on a single by Japhet Amador. The score was tied at 4.

Neither team scored in the 9th, setting up the extra inning excitement for the Aguilas fans. With 1 out, 3 consecutive singles, the last by Harris, gave Mexicali the 5-4 lead and when the Charros went down in order the Aguilas had the win.

Dalton Rodriguez (2-0) got the win in relief and Jake Sanchez earned his 4th save of the season. Aaron Kurcz (0-1) took the loss With the win, Mexicali improved to 7-6 on the season while the Charros fell to 7-7.

Navojoa Overcomes Culiacan 5-4

MAYOS SCORE IN THE BOTTOM, OF THE 8th TO RETAKE LEAD

A double by Jovan Rosa, a sacrifice bunt by Paul Leon and a fielder's choice gave the Mayos a 5-4 lead and Jesus Pirela (1-1), although he gave up a hit in the 9th, got the final three outs to record the win. Gerardo Sanchez (0-1) gave up the go ahead run in the bottom of the 8th to take the loss.

Roeman Fields singled to lead off the game and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt. Luiz Cruz walked. A single to right by Ryan McBroom scored Fields and the Tomateros led 1-0 after 1/2 of an inning.

The Mayos scored 3 times in the bottom half of the third. Singles by Christian Zazueta and Alejandro Gonzalez put runners on second and third with 1 out. Victor Mendoza cleared the bases with a home run to right and Navojoa had a 3-1 lead.

Navojoa retook the lead at 4-3 on a solo home run ff the bat of Jovan Rosa.

With 2 outs in the top of the 8th for Culiacan, consecutive singles by Rico Noel and Luis Cruz had runners on first and second. Noel stole third and scored on a single by McBroom as Culiacan tied the game at 4. But the win went to the Mayos who retook the lead in the bottom of the 8th.

McBroom was 3 for 4 with 2 RBIs for Culiacan and Issmael Salas added his home run on a 1 for 3 night.

Obregon Tops Hermosillo 3-2

YAQUIS SCORE TWICE IN THE TOP OF THE 9th

The Naranjeros had a2-1 lead through 8 innings but the Yaquis scored two runs in the top of the 9th for the 3-2 win. Rafael Martin (0-1) was charged with a blown save and the loss, giving up 2 runs on 3 hits. Kyle Bird (1-0) picked up the win in relief and Brandon Brennan earned his 1st save.

With one out in the bottom of the 4th, Jose Amador singled fro Hermosillo and trotted home in front of a Roberto Ramos long fly ball home run to left center for the 2-0 Naranjero lead. WATCH THE RAMOS HOME RUN HERE

The Yaquis got a run back in the 6th on a solo home run by Jesus Valdez to cut the lead to 2-1 and setting up the 9th.

With one out in the top of the 9th, Juan Carlos Gamboa singled. Pinch hitter Leo Heras doubled to put runners on second and third. Obregon challenged the call that Moises Gutierrez was not hit by a pitch. A review overturned the call and Gutierrez was awarded first base, loading the bases. Emmanuel Avila hit a sac fly to right to score Gamboa. A single by Daniel Robertson drove in Heras for the 3-2 lead and the win.

The Victory improves Obregon's record to 6-7 on the season and the Naranjeros fell to 5-8. 13,359 fans packed Estadio Sonora on a hot partly cloudy night only to go home disappointed with the loss.

Venados and Caneros Split Doubleheader

CANEROS 4-1 IN OPENER AND VENADOS 6-1 IN NIGHTCAP

The Caneros never trailed in the opener as they built a 3-0 lead after four innings and their pitching staff did the rest. Jonathan Castellanos (2-0) picked up the win in relief and Andres Avila earned his 4th save. Jose Hernandez (1-1) took the loss for Mazatlan.

Los Mochis scored twice in the bottom if the 4th to add to their 1-0 lead. Leandro Castro led off with a walk and went to third on a single by Jay Gonzalez. One out later, Castro scored on a play challenged at first. The on field call of out was overturned and Jesus Arredondo had a single. Gonzalez scored on the second disputed call of the inning. Again the call was overturned and the Caneros had a 3-0 lead.

Mazatlan scored their lone run in the 5th. Kenny Wilson was hit by a pitch and went to second on a wild pitch and third on a single by Jesus Fabela. After a line drive 4-3 double play, Edson Garcia singled to plate Wilson but it wasn't enough. The Caneros added a run in the bottom of the 6th for the 4-1 win.

In the nightcap, the Venados scored 4 times in the 6th to break open a close game. With one out, Sebastian Valle singled and advanced to second when the left fielder misplayed the ball. With two outs, Carlos Gastelum singled to put runners on the corners. Edgar Munoz singled to score Valle. Kenny Wilson tripled to score Gastelum and Munoz. 3 consecutive walks forced in Wilson for the 6-1 lead and the win.

Konner Wade (2-0) struck out 4, gave up 3 hits and a run over 5 innings in taking the win. Gerardo Concepcion (0-1) took the loss for Los Mochis.

With the split, the Venados are at 8-6 on the season with the Caneros at 6-7
